  2. When Oscar's in the car, i have his seatbelt on -- one of the loops that attaches to his harness and the seatbelt -- and I get the leash onto the harness before I detach the seatbelt. It may have been an accident, but that doesn't make it OK.....
  3. He was very close to him. Zack, the ex, was home with him 3 days a week and lived with us since Oscar was a tiny baby, and now Oscar has to be alone while I work a 9-5. Although I do have my neighbor, who Oscar loves, taking him for a walk around lunch time until I can get the official dog walker lined up.
  4. Poor Oscar, my mutt who's a bit more than a year old, is having some tummy troubles. For the past day he's had pretty bad diahrrea, and he's been sleeping a bit more than usual. Now we've had some big changes lately, and I wonder if this could be a result of him getting stressed out? In the past couple of weeks I kicked out my live in boyfriend, and then had to take Oscar to stay at my mom's for a week. While he was at my mom's she said he was fine and ran and played, but he came back on Friday, and I feel like he just hasn't been quite right. Can this be just because he misses the boyfriend and his schedule is changing? Any tips to help him adjust to the new schedule?
  5. Just my own experience..... I tried Oscar on the Blue Buffalo food, and he had very loose stools the entire time..... My best guess is that it's cold pressed, and his poor little tummy just couldn't adjust. Although I know other folks who have had no such issue and love the food. Oscar eats Wellness now, and we've had very good results.
  6. I'm glad this topic came up, as I've been having quite a bit of trouble with Oscar. Using purely positive methods works sometimes, but if he wants something or to go somewhere, he doesn't care what gets in his way. so I've been considering a prong collar. I've tried all different kinds of harnesses, but he powers through them -- although I can hold him when he's on a harness. When he's on a flat collar, god help me because I am just not strong enough. So, I'm looking for pointers, tips, and instructions on the proper way to use a training collar....
  7. Congratulations! I'm so glad everything went well and I can't wait to see pics!
  8. I've crate trained Oscar from the beginning and it's worked out very well. However, he is now very large and I'm afraid he needs a bigger crate. And that's fine. But I'm not sure how to choose one. Are there better brands? and how much room should he really have in there? Any help would be appreciated.
  9. Oscar's name is 2 syllables, and it seems to work well..... but i still think you should name the pup Dillinger.....
  10. Oh, i love him! get him and name him Dillenger.... by far the best choice, i'm sure...
  11. Here in Baltimore cuty, there is one official dog park. It's fenced in and has water and the big dog / little dog sides, and it's great -- except that it's not very big. Definitely too small for 15 - 20 big dogs. yet they all come, and they're bound to invade each other's space, and then things go wrong. Oscar has had to defend himself twice -- both times he was attacked by a misbehaving, aggressive dog. Neither time involved blood, but still scary. I still take Oscar, but only when it's empty or there are only one or two dogs. It's really a shame that it's the only one in the city, but it won't be there long if people don't become more responsible about using it. oh, but Oscar has soooo much fun there.
  12. I use the Advantix as well, and it's been great for us.....
  13. I have been getting Oscar's flea and heartworm preventatives from the vet, but all the websites advertise the meds so much cheaper. So has anyone ordered their meds from websites? Are there things I should look out for? Are any sites more reliable than others? Thanks!
  14. Oh, Oscar does it too .... can't even set down my coffee cup! and the kitty does it too ....
