1. Lhasas are a different dog all together. They are extremely aloof and NEED to be taught who is alpha from the very begining or you will have one nasty dog on your hand. If you look at the national rescue for Lhasas, I would say 90% of them are turned over for biting issues. Mostly it is with children because they are NOT the breed for families with small kids. I hope you are able to help this little one.....they are not the breed for everyone. You've really got to know them! They are NOTHING like their cousin the Shih Tzu.
2. I know a lot of older dogs who bark like that for the same reason R2 said. They are usually just confused and want to be near you.
3. I'd want to be a Pug.....pretty much for the same reasons as K wanting to be a Bulldog. But....I can be carried easier!!!
4. Well, I have four now. Two GSDs and two Chinese Cresteds. Both of which I always said I would own. I know that I will ALWAYS have Cresteds. But I know my husband loves labs. And I just adore Irish Wolfhounds. But he and I agree on one thing. We will NEVER get a puppy again. He really, really enjoyed rescuing Tater (who is 8ish years old) and just kept saying how good it felt. So he said that when we are ready to get a lab (which will be YEARS) that we will go to a breed rescue and adopt an older one.
5. LOL......like your dogs are neglected......they are about as neglected as any of my animals! And we only have seven!! Have you tried contacting the national Lhasa rescue (I'm sure you have): www.lhasaapsorescue.org Or Shih Tzu and Furbaby Rescue? www.shihtzuandfurbabyrescue.com
6. I would LOVE to pull up all the carpet and lay down hard floors...... But alas.....that takes money.....and we have more important things to spend it on right now. But we are doing it room by room! Just laid ceramic tile in the dining room and it looks VERY pretty.....
7. Oh I would love to have a Lhasa. But realistically, it won't happen any time soon. Plus, hubby thinks they are terrible little dogs. He doesn't understand them at all. He thinks Shasta is the biggest bitch, but puts up with her because he knows how much I love her. My parents brought her down this weekend and here is how things went: You know my parents come in the door because you hear this strange snarling, almost Ewok like, followed by spastic barking. Then, you hear lots of running. When you finally see what is causing all the noise, you see a 17 pound Lhasa HANGING off of 130 pound GSD. Every time a dog moves around her, she growls. But she LOVES the cats. She seeks them out to play with. She actucally did end up playing with PoGo on the last day. And I thought you only had two Lhasas. Is Missy the one you are talking about? I just knew about Devin and Fred.
8. Hi there!! I replied in your 'Pictures' thread. But my parents have always had Lhasas. I just love them! Very partial to the breed. Not many people understand them, for they are a VERY different kind of dog. They are NOTHING like their cousin, the Shih Tzu, that's for sure! If someone wants a cuddly, flat nosed dog, then get a Shih Tzu, not a Lhasa!!! I used to do obedience with ours and she excelled at it. She basically ruined me for any other dog, that's how fast she caught on. We were doing off lead heel work in about a months time. She was amazing at it. My parents still have her. Her name is Shasta and she's 8 years old. She is a beautiful red brindle. Very pretty girl! We keep her in a puppy cut since she is not shown. She is at the groomers every 6 weeks and our groomer LOVES her. Said she is the best Lhasa she has ever groomed. She is very well behaved at the groomers. Thanks for showing pics of yours! They are so beautiful!!!
9. SG....I would see if the vet would do that, (send the card on, that is). Or contact the local news station or paper that broke the story. But, also, if she just moved.....many people foward their mail. The worse thing you would get would be a 'return to sender'
10. I've heard it was because they are trying to cool off or maintain body temp and not overheat.
11.
And yuppers I wanna build the stuff on my own... its way too expensive otherwise.
I can give you the only tip I know!! I know a woman that for her weave poles, she uses toilet plungers! She gets them from like a Home Depot or Lowes. They are just the cheapie ones.....but it's so funny to walk into her house and see 10 toilet plungers in the corner of her family room! We always laugh about it.
12. Buddy was a chocolate....you are right, ML!
13. Right, Pumpkin.... I forgot to add that she has done DNA testing as well to make sure that Franka is not a mix of any type. Thanks for clarifying that!
14. Ang, she lost a ton of 'friends' because of her decision. I thought the same thing. But she seems really sweet. She doesn't seem like a BYB or anything. She doesn't have a whole butt load of dogs. She's super choosey about her homes (non breeding homes for all Pandas). We've emailed back and forth a few times. I just like the fact that she health tests all of her dogs. And she puts titles on them. Working titles. Most of the lines she uses are Sch. lines. And pretty high ranking dogs at that. I'll be sure to let you guys know when we go and visit. Maybe it will be in the next few months.
15. Her dogs are all health tested and Cerf'd. The lines are some pretty amazing working lines from what I'm told (I know nothing about GSD lines, only Chinese Cresteds!) She is actucally not far from my house (about 40 minutes). She has invited us to come and visit whenever we want to. She seems very nice.
16. There is nothing here in Licking County banning them. And most of these laws are not enforced to 'suburbia' type areas. Cute little housing developments with white picket fences tend to get looked over and no one cares. At least around here anyway......
17. I used to have the cats on Wysong. And right now, everyone is on Eagle Pack Holistic Lamb and oatmeal. They are doing well on it.....but I am in the process of switching TO Canidae. :D I'm happy with everyone on EP except PoGo. His poop is just never solid. So I'm going to try a food switch to see if maybe it's that. He's lactose intolerant or else he'd get yogurt like the rest of them. Found that out the hard way, if you know what I mean.
18. We do Eagle Pack Holistic Lamb and Oatmeal here.....but I'm switching to Canidae in the near future. I have a bag in the pantry and I just need to go down a little big with the EP.
19. Can someone one here help me out? My friend rescued a little Pittie girl. She is about 7 months old now (has had her for a few months). She will be going out of town and has NO idea what to do with Precious (name she came with and responded to, husband didn't want to change it...calls her Precious Angel). I'm wondering if anyone here could maybe put me in touch with a rescue person, or someone who is Pit-knowledgable, here in Columbus, Ohio area or just Ohio itself. I am looking for a boarding kennel that is Pit-friendly. Anything would be helpful! She has two dogs. Maggie Star is a lab mix. We will be taking Maggie for the week, but Precious would just be too much in our house. Plus there is NO CHASING of cats allowed here. Period. End of story. Dogs aren't even alowed to look at the cats. And bringing in a happy go lucky pit puppy would be a disaster. Our big male, Ace, goes after the GSDs if they walk near him. He has outright attacked PoGo for bounding in the room. He does NOT back down. And all I need is a claw to the eye on a dog that's not mine...... I know there's got to be someone on here who can help me help my friend!! Thanks guys!
