1. Oh in my other post I was thinking 1 part peroxide to 5 parts water but it sounds like that may be waaay too conservative? WHOA on the borax! I called the product's poision control because I thought Buddy had gotten into an ant bait I made with it ... they said a small amount of ingestion would not have posed a risk but to wash his paws and maybe give him a bath because it could be a skin irritant. Weird because I have heard of it being used as a flea powder ... I have to think there are better things to use.
2. Yeah, me too!! But it seems that a 1:5 solution of peroxide:water would be safe for just about anything topical for doggies (OR people) ... maybe start there and increase the potency if needed?
3. DAL, I didn't follow any of the links that pwrpufgrlz (sp?) provided but did you? I love petfinder.org from what I've seen so far ... I bristle when someone says they're goinng to "go out and buy" a dog, pup, cat, whatever ... and I don't think that is YOU at all!!! JUST my 2 cents.
4. Oh ouch poor guy... That is so rough, sending good thoughts along...
5. We have only had Buddy 3 weeks ... he went fom unlimited Ol Roy to limited Innova plus very limited lean treats. He is 46 pounds but only 19 inches tall. We and vet think needs to lose between 5-10 pounds and I think we are getting there just with the high quality food plus increased activity. The best improvement we see is his stools - when we first got him they were very soft to runny and 4-5 large BMs a day. I think he was eating so much of that Ol Roy out of boredom / seeking nourishment ? and he was chained in a yard pretty much 24/7. But they have been steadily improving and now he usually has 2 really firm good poops a day. I thought the innova was going to be a bit of cost burden but he only needs so much of it to be satisfied! As our vet suggested, 3/4 cup per day 2x a day. That seems like a really good amount for him. At this rate it will take over a month to go through a bag. I was thinking of the paralell with my own eating and weight loss goals. Buddy loves his food but is satisfied with so little of it, because I think, it is so high quality and nutrient dense. The same principle as us eating beans, whole grain, nutritious veggies, high quality protein ... I need to do for myself what I'm doing for him!
6. AAAAWWW ... that grin is just unbeLIEVEably cute!!!! Thanks for sharing.
7. Sorry I can't be much help with your specific question, but I have to commisserate - I have the greatest vet in the world but one or two of his partners are ... well, let's just say not as good IMO at least with dogs. Now unless it's an emergency I'll wait for my regular. Can you get your pup back to see your regular vet?
8. Well I have been with Dogo about a month now and have to say you guys have helped me in many ways, but especially to completely change my mind about Pitties. Ashamed to say I was very prejudiced against them just a few short weeks ago (and me being a lifetime dog person!) I just believed the media and hearsay. After reading the threads and looking at the APBT pictures here at dogo, and looking at a book on them at Barnes & Noble, I now know they are a stunningly beautiful, intelligent and lion hearted breed. I also was guilty of assuming that most APBT enthusiasts were up to no good. Now I realize that those who abuse them by fighting, byb etc. are a minority and the majority of their owners are just like me ... loving their dogs like crazy. Anyway, thanks guys. Sorry for being such a lunkhead before.
9. courtnek, I can't see them either ... I am on Mac and have no "right click" capabilities, I can never access "Properties" and these are the reasons I can't post pics myself on the forum (though I can di it on msn ...) Hey any other Mac users with the same woes? Court, would you be willing to just e-mail me a JPEG of your foxhound? Large file is no problem...
10. Poor Brighton! Now if they had a doggie cologne like "eau de 3-day dead squirrel" or "eau de fresh horse s***" then Buddy would be proud to wear it!
11. I think they can tell! Our dear departed Puppy never growled at anyone except our kitty-corner neighbor, who is a really nice guy (I think!) I wondered if it was because he was blind... but then I found out that he really did not like dogs.
12. Congrats! What a beautiful puppy. I thought the bear thing was hilarious and then K's response ... LOL LOL!
13. Thanks for the update! It is hard now but what a happy ending all in all.
14. Gladysse was 15 at the time she got the luekemia vacc. She's 17 now. We really didn't even need it at the time IMO, and now the vet (same vet) says given her age and lifestyle she does not need anything except good checkups with blood and urine checks 1x a year. Her lifestyle for many years now is going outside once a day (if that) for about five minutes at a time while we carefully watch her. And no other cats in the household.
15. Congrats and good for you for finding a way to TCB within budget! Our cat was very lethargic after getting the leukemia vacc, we were really worried she'd never be herself again ... finally after 3-4 days she was back to her frisky self but we decided not again for her.
16. WOW she is beautiful!!!!! I was gone for 4 days and look how much has happened ... I am Soooo sorry to hear about your Roscoe but so happy about Peaches!
17.
e Columbus All Breed (by me) is like that. I pay $100 a year and can take as many classes I want, every night of the week, with as many dogs as I want.
HOLY cow OBG that's incredible!! Lucky lucky you!!
OK, i put up some pics of Carson in the Pics section! Happy now?
Uh-YEahhhh!!! Uh-DUU-uuuh!! And I wasn't even one pestering outwardly, just hoping inwardly. Going over to Pic's now ...
18. Oh that was very sad, thanks for sharing though. That's why I posted the article about the girl mauled in Denver ... not passing judgement, not asking for judgement ... but just saying Wow this happened and it sucks that it happened, just thought you'd all want to know.
19. I get the Post most days so I'll look for follow ups as to whether it was actually a pit. What I found striking is that animal control had the muscle to follow through on the prior incident but obviously didn't. Yes the owners got a citation but I don't call it follow up if you just make them pay a fine.
20. DP, Yes I get it and that is interesting to say the least! No opinion one way or the other as of now, but it takes me back to Ethics 101... thanks I think :fadein:
21. Praying... crossing my fingers... chanting izzy find Tabatha!! :o

23.
In my opinion we need animals to eat, that is what God put them on earth for.
GREAT post Cassie, you are eloquent on environmental issues! In my humble opinion, I do not believe God "gave" us animals to eat... It just turns out that we are omnivorous like many other mammals. A species that eats other species. Not to say I don't believe in God (haven't worked that one out yet) ... but definitely don't buy the "man's dominion" part. Not meaning to get off topic so I'll say once again ... PETA go crawl in a hole and stop ruining sane animal advocates' chances of being heard. If I speak out against factory farming etc. it's automatically assumed that I'm a PETA fanatic when I wouldn't touch this group with a 10 foot pole.
24. You are lucky to have such a nice sweet dog ... sorry you don't have better luck with your neighbors! In my experience I've come to my own defense a few times and to my dogs' defense many times ... I just gravitate toward owning the most docile dogs and I end up in the role of their protector, which is just fine with me.
25. That was so beautiful. SOME of you people need to chip in and buy me a new box of kleenex.
