1. I think yes, mixed breeding is mainly frowned on because of overpopulation. If you have been visiting shelters than you should know what a crying shame it is. In my opinion it is not wrong that you took on one of these puppies, and I'm sure it is a very fine puppy ... good for you! But yes it was wrong of the people you bought your dog from - wrong, cruel, selfish, ignorent, etc. to intentionally breed the way they did. (By the way I think it is just as bad and even worse to breed "purebred" litters unless you REALLY know what you are doing ... please see the sticky "What is a responsible breeder?" or something like that).
2. Glad to hear about those puppies!
3. B Bop, if you take the stick out and start hitting people upside the head with it will you at least wash it real good first? 8)
4. Aaaaw best wishes for Diamond!
5. I like the double stack idea as long as they are secure and he can't get his little head stuck between them (I lost a hampster that way in a bad habitrail connection, very traumatic!) He is Cuuuuuute!!!
6. Well it would be very difficult and probably even dangerous for an org. to "wage war" on the scumbags. It is good to see progress as far as felonizing animal cruelty and better enforcement but there is still a long way to go. It just breaks my heart to watch these videos but I need to, partly to make myself understand the situation better.
7. :o     Milk Bones!
8. Patch is adorable! Oh that is so sad, that story of the $3 makes me sick but I hope his story has a very happy ending. Keep us posted please!
9. That was extremely powerful ... a great message. I wonder are there those in the Pittie "community" out there, especially in the U.S. who are going beyond the fight against BSL, to try and preevnt the abuses that are going on? The dog fights, etc? The main things I hear from this corner are all about preventing BSL .. which is a noble and essentlal part of protecting the animals themselves, I understand that. But is it not just a part of it?! It can NOT be just about protecting our right to own APBTs! We must support pending legislation that makes dog fighting a felony in the U.S. ... We must support law enforecement in breaking up fighting rings ... there must be organized condemnation of irresponsible breeders. Are there any APBT organizations that any of you know of who are doing these things on behalf of these poor animals? Again I mean BEYOND expelling the myths and trying to prevent BSL.
10. OK this is a lighthearted thread to share the little things (or big things) we do for our dogs that maybe some "less doggy" people snicker about. I'll start ... When I take Buddy driving on errands I always try to park facing the store entrance with a view unobstructed so he can easily watch me go in and come out.
11. Aaaaaw, she's beautiful!!! My first thought was black & tan coonhound.
12. It went out priority yesterday. I hope you get it tomorrow. I hope she can stand the taste and that it helps. I couldn't let it sit in my drawer for years and expire so Maggie is welcome to it. :)
13. Liz I'm no expert but I know my DAD took literally sixteen capsules of 25mg benadryl at once after he ate nuts which he's really allergic to. Granted he's a big guy, about 250 pounds. It quelled the allergic reaction and made him sleep for a long time, that's it. Don't dose on this advice alone but if you have already, it may make you feel better.
14. I've had two females (mixed breed, spayed) at a couple of different points with no problem, they all got along wonderfully.
15. John comes home everty day for lunch, essential when I'm out of town. It's about 5-15 minutes each way depending on whether he bikes or drives, and traffic. I know people who leave their dogs out all day here, with shelter. I guess that's OK if your dog is hardy ... and if it's only during the day with good shelter and plenty of water. Our winter days are mild though our summers can get around 100F some days. In his last home Buddy was left out day and night, his shelter was under the mobile home. His former owner said "Oh he can take any kind of weather..." well guess what, he is a wimp! I give him the choice to be in or out and unless it's over 60 and sunny he wants IN thank you! It makes me sad thinking he had to stay out all winter at his old home given that he loves to be warm.
16.
Okay so last two things, I'm not trying to be harsh but Nookie inforces the stereotype that teenages cannot be responible for pets and whatever happens to those animals is not their fault. I am the same age as Nookie. But the point is no matter if she IS a teeneger Nookie is responsible for this dogs life now.
LC you're right and I don't think you are being unduly harsh. The reality is right now she is responsible for this puppy and another dog (I am most concerned about the puppy) ... and I just hope that she stays here and learns how to do right by this puppy this time around. Although I wasn't here throught the first go-around and if I had been I may not be so generous ...
17. OK I read through the old post, this is all pretty disturbing. Let me say the least that I feel I must say ... Nae Nae I'm sure you're not the only one here who has made a bad desicion in the past (referring to adopting a puppy you couldn't handle then returning it to the shelter...) I do not want to judge that now, it's over. What IS concerning me is that you still seem to have the attitude that pets are toys. You also seem pretty young (like a ten year old who's just a really good speller?) :evilbat: sorry I couldn't resist ... at any rate you apparently still live with your parents and maybe you got that attitude from them, I don't know... But what can you do to change it? Are you willing to work on that? I see your presence here as at least a positive step but I think you are going to hear some harsh things that are not all undserved ... but I do hope that you tough it out, stay here and learn. :fadein:
18. Congrats on Cookie 2!!
19. WOW, what a story. That is one lucky dog to have found you!
20. When I'm here Buddy's rarely if ever alone but if I have to go out of town for work (at 12 day stretches :( ) he will be alone (inside with run of the house) for up to 4.5 hours. John comes home for lunch, there's a flurry of treats, rubs, and going outside). When Puppy was getting really invalid I had to kennel her during this time ... We hated to do it but there was no way John could have worked and taken care of her at the same time. Someday I want a new job where I never have to travel, I'd much rather go into an office than to be away from home for weeks at a stretch. It will also have to be close enough where I can come home for lunch.
21. HURRAY!! What is November 8? Graduation? Good luck with it all!

FLEAS!!

Oh I need to clarify, it was $80 for thre apps EACH, three for the cat and three for Buddy (who needed the 45-80 something pound one). Sounds like that's pretty much in line. I also went and spent $37 on a sweet Eureka cordless vac... now THAT I think was a good buy. The whole flea thing is freaking me out and I (no make that WE, me and my husband!!!) need to do some better housekeeping.
23. The Glycoflex is "gone" to a dog who can really use it.
24. I have a 90 ct (almost full) bottle that I got for Puppy soon before she died. If anyone needs it I'll be happy to mail it, just PM me. I'll post again if/when it is given away. This is a major joint/arthritis supplement ... warning it stinks, I had to bury it in meat to get Puppy to eat it but they say dogs are supposed to like it. More info here: http://vetriscience.com/glyco-flex-III.php
