What Breeds Do People Confuse Your Dog With?
BuddysMom replied to Nae_Nae_Nookie's topic in General questions
Many people have said about Buddy "Oh what a pretty border collie" or "border collie mix eh?" I just say I hope so ... and I think so! For sure he's a mutt but I love when people think he's got some or alot of BC because I think they're the coolest breed. -
I understand, am so in love with them now my mom got me a BC calendar, and I seem to be seeing them everywhere.

Poor Tater ... poor you! Best wishes for a fast and full recovery.
desertlady - My husband is a great dog fanatic. He missed about 3 hours of work over this and considered it well worth it. He was happy it worked out well. Of course....there are drawbacks being married to a guy who is nuts about dogs. Hehehe...this is a guy who keeps an old hatchback honda around our place for the sole purpose of giving the dogs rides in our big yard. It's a terrible eyesore, but I have a feeling it's not going anywhere anytime soon. Except around in great loops, horn honking, dog heads hanging out the rear windows in our yard.... Yep, he's a keeper all right! Maybe your hubbie just hates to see you get disappointed?
   And to your last comment, yes that's exactly it. That was part of the the whole Mars/Venus thing ... men often tend to protect when what we really need is for them to step back and just support.
But my hubbie will stay home from work tomorrow and work on getting him back home.
Wow, great hubbie. I wish mine had a fraction of that attitude instead of rolling his eyes every time I try to help a stray (though I know it makes him uncomfortable because my feelings get hurt sometimes ... but still ...)

Maybe we should really call "purebreds" ... "inbreds"? (ducking in fear now  )
-
I loved this and found it very interesting. I personally prefer the terms mutt or heinz-57 over non-purebred or mixed breed.

Aaaaaaaaw, how adorable! Her and Lola together are precious.

Dog related vent... day shot to h*ll
BuddysMom replied to Horsefeathers!'s topic in Everything about dogs
YIKES! I agree, best to stay home for Peaches' sake and yours! Sounds like a cosmically bad day. -
We have those free bag dispensers at every park and trailhead too, never empty, plus garbage cans and posted signage saying it's the law, and I would say the majority of people STILL don't use them! Dare I say we have a high redneck factor that contributes? Whatever it its, it's infuriating. Pluse we are in a semi-desert climate and it takes a looong time for dog poo to biodegrade.

Hey all, I'd like your thoughts on this and see if anyone else wants to try it ... I have been dismayed lately by all of the lazy slobs in my town who never pick up after their dogs. It gives the responsible dog owners a bad name. Lately I have been taking extra bags and trying to pick up more than my share in my favorite parks, but it's too overwhelming (not to mention kinda gross) ... I was thinking of rallying responsible dog owners in our town to form a group and meet at a designated park or trailhead maybe twice a month, bring friendly dogs on leashes and all your extra bags ... I could supply extra bags, a "main" collection bag, and antibacterial hand wipes "just in case..." I'd calli it PUP - a PR and social club for responsible dog owners. (You can figure out the acronym I'm sure!) Our local media would help get the word out for free. Is this too crazy? Would anyone else want to try this in their own town and share notes and encouragement?

Poor Buddy(Pitbull lovers may want to read this!!)
BuddysMom replied to CincoandDahlilasgirl's topic in Amstaffs & Pit Bulls
This is sickening. Very curious as to WHERE the dog was when he was siezed. Could they actually go onto private property (or worse yet into the house) without a warrant being served to the property owner? Not to cut the authorities any slack here but do you think this is the qhole story? Wow it makes me grateful to be a U.S. citizen. At least we have constitutional rights that would have prevented this ... that is, so far. This administration is working very hard to take those rights away. -
I voted for Jake :D

Leather furniture and dogs: yes or no?
BuddysMom replied to JackieMaya's topic in Everything about dogs
We just got a new sectional ... almost got leather but ended up with durapella ... and white, no less! Buddy is getting extra love and I got him a new baby comforter for the living room because he's not allowed up anymore, poor guy. Just want him to know he's not being punished but I wonder if he feels that way anyhow. -
OK dal, huge apologies in advance because this is the dumbest question in the world but I'm gonna ask it anyway ... has Stryker been tested for heartworm?
So DAL, what gives? I hope I did not insult with this question, but noticed you didn't answer it yet. -
They stole Rowie for a second time.
BuddysMom replied to Rowie-the-Pooh's topic in Everything about dogs
That is horrible!!! Curious as to where you do live, as your avatar says "Earth" ... but maybe you don't want to disclose that, I'd understand! -
You talked about garage hope your dog didn't have a taste of antifreeze, this is really nasty stuff and it does't take that much to do dammage! For people that don't know: if anybody suspect their pet did drink this don't wait rush to the vet asap.
I think this is a fine and innocent reminder for anyone.

I have caught Buddy with c@t poopsicles but since I caught him in the act I think (hope!) I prevented any future snacking.

Are your dogs jealous of the computer?
BuddysMom replied to JackieMaya's topic in Everything about dogs
 Buddy tries to body check or "herd" me away from my office. Then he stays at my feet looking disgusted and gets all excited when I leave the computer. -
I had an experience recently turning in a neglected dog at large, wanted to take him into the humane society but they wouldn't take him so I had to take him down to animal control ("the pound") instead. Checked a few days later and he was gone, and they would not tell me what had happened to him but assured me that if he'd gone back to the owner, they would have made him get nuetered etc. and had a loooong talk with them. It's a sad situation all around but in a case of severe neglect the dog is better off at most shelters (except for the most horrible ones). At leat they get food, shelter, and a chance at a real home. Also they are not putting other dogs at risk in your neighborhood.

OK we're already doing most beautiful breed but what do you think is the cutest breed? I'll start, Boston terrier.

Border collies, well bred GSDs, and I can't resist a standard poodle with the classic haircut.
