Yeah I don't see any possible argument here. What, he should be PTS because he's "a freak"? That's why I was so curious about K's "don't get me started" stuff. Is there something I'm missing? However his owners do breed sphinx cats which is way outside my realm of comprehension. [edited to take out repetitive wording]

Your regimen sounds perfectly reasonable to me, and it is working ... However I am no expert. I too would be interested to know what others think of your question, in particular our TDG. I also feed mainly kibble (Innova EVO) with a small amount of people food ... just a couple of biscuits a day and a taste of whatever we're having for dinner (example a small crust of country bread, a lean slice of chicken breast, a spoonful of ground beef before seasoning...) Sometimes I put these people treats on top of the kibble. Is this wrong? It seems to work for my Buddy.

Psychiatric treatment for woman who breastfed puppy
BuddysMom replied to Seijun's topic in Everything about dogs
they used to, years ago. I got some of their magazines at work too. They did get a lot of protests about it, so maybe they changed their policy, but I remember reading one and seeing the article encouraging feeding til 5 or 6. I would not want a 5 year old, in kindergarten, breastfeeding, personally. But thats me.
I don't think it's "just you," I think it's totally sick. Mothers who are doing this in our society are not thinking of the child's benefit, that's for certain. Sounds like the kids become pawns in fulfilling some bizarre philosophy or political aganda. Oh barf. I just hope it is not that common. If I turn up anything on my own that La Leche League is still encouraging this I will talk to my company's media manager and insist that we don't advertise in that magazine anymore. The idea of nursing a child till 5 or 6 disturbes me even more than the nursing a puppy thing. -
Too sick to post over the Bulldog /Crested mix...I can not post without severly offending people with my language and lack of control..so Zzzzzip
Oh please, let 'er rip I say.

hunt_jumpfl answered some of the previous posters' concerns but I am still wondering, why the none to low shed and smelly requirements? Sorry, that seems a little prissy and anti dog to me.

I would suggest a mixed breed shelter dog because they come in all shapes and sizes and seem to be so intelligent and responsive compared to the purebreds I've known. (Please don't flame me all you purebreed owners, it's just been my experience!) However there is your "Low/No shedding (little to no "doggie smell") requirement. Is this for allergy / housemate reasons or are you just averse to the hair and "eau de doggie"? I haven't known any that don't stink once in awhile, but if you keep up with the baths and dental care there is usually no smelly problem.

Psychiatric treatment for woman who breastfed puppy
BuddysMom replied to Seijun's topic in Everything about dogs
there are women who breastfeed their children til 5 or 6. the LeLeche League encourages this
A little off topic but is this really true? I somehow get their magazine sent to me through work and have only flipped through it, but it seemed more about natural parenting and just encouraging mothers to breastfeed (within the normal time frame). Though they probably tone down the mag so they don't lose advertisers. -
:o :o :o Hmmm I wonder what behavioral issues ... "Gee I got him to stop jumping up on men but he WILL NOT stop jumping up on women, wonder why?!"

I won't be getting a third dog after all
BuddysMom replied to JackieMaya's topic in Everything about dogs
JM I think it's ridiculous too. You are very gracious to the rescue but from what I've read here at Dogo the rescues (not just this one) seem very snobbish, considering all of the dogs out there just looking for a chance at life, shelter and love. I am glad they do their homework, etc. but the way they string people along is obnoxious, and then rejecting EXCELLENT potential owners like you really pi**es me off. -
What is a Dremel??? I WANT one! (I think... stomping foot like Veruca Salt...)

Look, I'm feeling bad about my last post because in thinking it over nae nae, I'm sure you don't know better and your heart is in the right place. Hey everyone else, almost 30 views and no one else responds but me? :-? Does this story not break anyone else's heart? I'm sure some of you can come up with better or at least more compassionate advice?

It was terribly wrong. You showed him great kindness but then you not only cruelly abandoned him but led him to a busy road and he very likely got killed. If you are not willing to follow through with a kindness then don't do it at all. Now I recommend that you pray that he's still alive, try to find him, and take him to a shelter (even though thet's not what "people do" there).
-
I wonder if a blood test would be too expensive, much less whether it could prove it or not. I also wonder why the neighbor called? I know how neighbors can be ... most likely out of sheer spite. This is a sad situation. Keep us posted!
-
Aaaw I agree with everyone, he is so lucky (or smart) to have gone to YOU and he has been neglected, probably out of ignorance but his owners should not be allowed to haev him. I'd explain that to the shelter ... then If by some chance they go there to get him hopefully the shelter can say sorry, you have to relinquish him or face abuse charges.

I was thinking Standard Poodle. Does it have to be 100 pounds? Wondering why they have that spec.

Thanks all! I should mention he's not in the bed with me, but on his own bed which is on the floor right next to "my side". Also Buddy oooooves to have his belly rubbed and scratched. It seems to be related just to the face coming near the belly. I agree with the thought that Buddy sees John as a playmate and is just setting boundaries.
-
Here's what happened, I'll give my theory as to why but I wonder if y'all agree or have any other ideas. First off John (husband) has fallen totally in love with Buddy and the feeling is mutual. They snuggle on the couch together, etc. etc. and also They think it's big fun to roll around on the floor or grass together. Last night when we Buddy and I had settled into bed John got down and started nuzzling Buddy, and Buddy growled at John. No snapping or biting, just enough to make him back off. John said it was the second time, and he knows he shouldn't be "playing dog" with Bud so much ... I asked was he nuzzling Buddy's belly area and he said yes, that's what he was doing each time it happened. My theory is that Buddy has an instinctive aversion to someone's head approching his belly because that's one of the vulnerable spots (besides the jugular) where one animal will tear in to kill another animal in the wild. Any thoughts, agreements, disagreements?

I can't see it either and I really want to!! Darn Macs.

Thanks everyone! I've decided to order the ruff rider. Have to wait till payday so no accidents allowed till then! No airbag on the passenger side of my truck ... but thanks for pointing out this danger. I hope if I get a new vehicle I could switch this feature on and off somehow.

I am crying as I write this ... just received the following e-mail ... He went quickly and peacefully at about 1:15 this afternoon. I can't call you right now because all I would do is cry. I know we did the right thing. Love, Mom RIP to Teddy, aka T-Bear, a VERY Good Dog. You were the best friend my mom ever had. Since she adopted you 11 years ago you have been constant companions. You were there over the years when Mom was helping her mom, then her dad, in their last years and as they moved on to the next world. I remember you laying your head in Grandpa's lap after his strokes, as he told you you in a childlike voice what a good boy you were. You and Mom loved to hike together all over the mountain trails around Estes Park. You were a big, dapper, black and white Aussie shepherd mix. You loved my mom more than anything else in the world and she loved you the same. She acted on that love in a most selfless way today, calling the vet over because it was time to end your suffering.
Mine wear a seatbelt...the same thing we use when we walk them since their collars could slip off their necks.
Gigi what brand do you use, if you can remember? The ones I saw at Petco had either 1. a big "bib" with fleece lined foam that would be too hot here most of hte year ... or 2. were really flimsy with cheapo looking plastic snaps like you'd see on a backpack, didn't look like thy'd take much stress. I will look at PetSmart because they tend to have better quality here than Petco does.
-
Thanks JM, your girls sure are lucky! I wonder if the best solution is to make the behind-seat area real comfy for Bud and just make him stay back there. There are windows I can crack on both sides and the back, he could stretch out better, he wouldn't get as much hair on my passenger seat ... it probably would be safer because I can't be sure I'd have the discipline to "belt him" for every little trip. I Love the idea of a little mattress! There's none narrow enough for this space (about 24 inches wide) but I could get a piece of foam from the fabric shop. Still interested in other opinions ... but starting to think behind the seats while in motion is going to have to be the rule.
-
Does anyone use a doggie safety belt? Or would you recommend one, or not recommend one? Buddy loves to ride on the passenger seat of my truck. Even if I just had to slam on my brakes, it would be potentially very dangerous for him ... so I'm thinking the safety belt for dogs is a good idea, but wondered if there are any preferred brands, or if there are any downfalls? I could easily just make him ride in the cab behind the front seats (it's a small king cab pickup) But he wouldn't enjoy it as much and I think belted in front may be safer than not belted in back. Any thoughts, anyone?
