1. Those who try canned pumpkin, remember to get it with no sugar or anything else added. It has worked wonders for me too and all my dogs have liked it.
2. That is GREAT
3. Get well soon Kes!!!
4. Thanks for the Kat update. What an  Your stories made me laugh.
5.
There are several that live near me. A woman in the neighborhood insists on breeding her two labs together, who both have major aggression issues towards people and other animals. Both have repeatedly bitten people. My dog was almost killed by one of her lab's offspring. That said dog has sent several others to the hospital and bitten several people badly. The rest of the offspring that I know also have serious problems with attacking people and dogs. One has gone through a window to get at a dog walking by. I know that any breed can be aggressive and that an owner can increase/decrease aggression in a dog through training or lack of, but this "family" of labs leaves a bad taste in my mouth about them. Partly these dogs suffer from lack of responsible owners.
Great post! Sorry you have to deal with this scum in your neighborhood. :(
6.
If we pass those types of spray painted signs...we take them down...we have a wood burning stove you see...better that way
Great idea, I'm going to do the same thing. It's hard to be against Free to a Good Home ads because that's how I found Buddy ... But I guess now that I have him all the other ads can get banned, I do see the problem with them. I wish I could get the paper to ban "Puppies for sale" ads too. Come to think of it I'm going to try! There are two papers that compete with each other here and I bet I could get the more progressive one to do it to distinguish themselves.
7.
Marinna is going to her new home hopefully next week, which is always a good thing! We were all stumped about the donations, every rescue group that was there said the same thing :-? , go figure. But it's all good, the Broadway Cares group gave us a check for $2200 from the auction, whooohooo :multi: !
YAY!!! Is it possible there was a talented thief hitting the jars?
8.
Yikes.... About 2 miles from my house is a real run down house. The place has always been "less than desirable" but whatever. Some people can't afford nice things and I'm fine with that. I don't judge others because their house isn't as nice as the one I live in (with my parents...). Anyway, I pass this place every Wednesday night on my way to agility training. Just a couple of weeks ago a sign was put up. It is a giant piece of plywood and it has spray painted on it: Rhodesian Ridgeback Puppies AKC Reg. $1500 By appointment only *phone #* :x :x :x :x :x I want to go in and KILL these people! So my friend and I made an appointment. We saw the pups, poor gate and bone structure. The parents are pretty sad looking dogs and not in the best of shape. I can't say they were unhealthy but they were not very good looking dogs AT ALL. There were 6 pups left and only 2 of them had a full ridge! The "breeder" (if you will) said that they aren't vaccinating the pups cuz they can't afford it and didn't want to raise the price of the pups. Needless to say I was kicked out of the house for trying to educate the "breeders." They were not happy to hear my opinions.
WOW ... ballsy of you guys to go over there. Kudos for trying anyway
9. I feel your anger!! Don't you just want to call those numbers and bitch them out sometimes? :evilbat: I had that impulse just today, there was an ad in our local, "Seeking male Welsh corgi to breed with my female." Like come on ... if your dog was truly responsible breeding quality you'd have to place an ad to find a mate??!! Is there a Malamute rescue that you can alert them to this, so they can take him?
10. WOW, thanks for the story and all the great pictures!!!
11.
The clerk barked out 'SIT' to him, I said "this dog is almost 14, he does not have to sit for cookies anymore! "
Great story and I LOVED that part! Good for you!!
12. Adding, what this probiotic has noticeably done for me ... and I only take it during travel, when I have been ill, or over-indulging alot :drinking:  ... it makes me regular. In dog terms it makes the stools hard and healthy looking
13.
what are the probiotics for? what do they help?
Well, its' pretty complex but I'll give the brief answer ... We (all mammals) have trillions of bacteria living in our guts. To simplify, some are "good" in that they perform vital detox and digestive functions ... these "friendly" bacteria are depleted by antibiotics (and poor eating, aging, alcohol, stress, etc etc) and this imbalance can lead to many health problems as I understand. And so, when we take antibiotics or give them to our dogs it's a great idea to replenish the "friendly" bacteria at the same time. Bifidobacteria, lactibacillus including acidophilus, etc. I will post an article when I can find it...
14. I have tried cranberry pills mysellf for a recurring UTI and the only brand that worked was CranActin. Dosed big like 4 of them 4 times a day (again that was for a person not a dog...) This almost immediately, and permanently cured an infection that was recurring for years and antibiotics had become ineffective. Also I extend the offer I made to DO for free probiotic supplements ... http://www.edenfoods.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=111353&osCsid=926addc823c7902a0682fec7bcc5e049 I have these 3 pack samples if you want to try. Great human quality probiotic. PM your address if you want to try. I extend this offer to anyone who really feels a need, for themselves, dogs, or loved ones ... "while supplies last" and if you are willing to let me know how it worked for you.
15.
Congratulations!! how I wish one of my dogs would pass :( i mean i've never had them tested cause i dont know how to find a place that it's done...but none of them really have the OB to pass.....as soon as I get a job i'm going to enroll either Sheeba or Shadow into an OB class and then find a place to test them for CGC and TDI :) Sheeba did make a visit to a nursing home awhile back and she did well but she was a lil more interested in all the new smells than she was the people but maybe after her 2nd visit she would have loved on the people :-? either way she DID make alot of the elderly people happy :D sorry for rambling
Thanks Everybody!!! AAP, it wasn't terribly strict! It was mainly demonstrating that they pay attention to you, and are not aggressive or afraid with other people, dogs, or situations. If a dog did not do something right the first time they got two more tries. Some did not do the "down" command at all, they had to be put into the posiiton to do the "down, stay." The stay was pretty easy too, although that was the one Buddy messed up on once, the sit/stay because he laid down before I got back to him  Thought it was OK for him to do that but she made us do it over.
16. Presenting Buddy Martin, Canine Good Citizen and Therapy Dog!!!!    He passed with flying colors! It was as if he knew that he was "on stage" and put out extra effort. I am one teary eyed proud Mom. And it was sooo much fun meeting other dog lovers in my community. I traded numbers with two other ladies whose dogs passed, and we are going to do visits together when our registrations come back.
17. Good luck Fritz ...
18.
I've been having a blast reading this entire thread!!!
You have what it takes to be a Dogoer then!! Complete willingness to waste time  Hope you stick around and we can get to know you and vice versa  (edited to add the vice versa part!)
19. Wow, I'm not a mod (not even close) but aren't there general moderator ethics that one does not go on another board and completely dis them?
20. I am so happy to be on a board where there is freedom instead of a nanny state!
21. Yeah thanks Babs!
22. This made me cry too. Good luck and be safe Nev!
23.
Ok I have a problem with two things: 1) Where did Moose come from? I'm guessing you bought him because you won't say if you got him from a rescue and no rescue in there right mind would give you another dog. 2) Your really ok with leaving your dogs outside all day in Arizona?? Umm the high today was 105..you would leave cody with that big ol' coat outside in 105 degree weather? Even with shade and water that is still freakin' HOT! To me leaving a dog in that heat for an extended amount of time is abuse.
These are my exact and only 2 concerns.
24.
moose came into dals life for a reason whether it be cuz she needed him or he needed her
So are you willing to tell us where Moose came from? I do appreciate what you're saying Tx and it isn't about you or your situation at all in my mind. It's not about moving or even being unsettled it is about COLLECTING animals (pom, pom, kitten, pom) in rapid succession and WTF is that all about?! To equate your situation with DALs is selling yourself way short, IMO there is no comparison.
