1. Was he vaccinated recently?
2. Good thread! I definitely think dog people are different (in a GOOD way). Things I do that are weird to non-dog owners. I rush home from work to let my babies out. If I'm running a bit late or get held up, I feel sooo guilty. I shop for my babies more than myself.Their gonna need their own closet VERY soon (like now). When sharing a new delicacy with my girls, if they don't like it (which is rare) I finish it off gladly much to the disgust of guests. We share ice cream and milk from cereal. We take naps in summer in a hot, cozy pile. They sleep with me every night no matter how stinky they are. My idea of a night out is a walk with my girls in an undiscovered park or trail, or a car ride where we take our time and enjoy the night sky and a soft summer breeze. We walk (happily) in below zero weather, rain, snow, you name it. And the weirdest thing? (to non dog lovers) We love each other UNCONDITIONALLY (which is virtually unheard of in this crazy world).
3. Agility is SOOO much fun! We have big dogs in the class I'm in. The training school Vicki and I go to has different classes according to the age of the dog. Vicki is in the 12 month class. They also have puppy agility, and beginning agility for older dogs. Check with your instructor for the best class for Jada. And have fun!!!
4.
Any suggestions that could help me ensure that this won't happen again? They'd be greatly appreciated!
My suggestion is to keep her on a leash, no matter how well trained she is. You never know when prey drive will kick in with a dog. Once it does, come hell or high water, good luck getting their attention. The same thing could have happened if it were a squirrel or cat flying past the house. I have an 11 year old pit bull who I've NEVER had a problem with recall. However, there are a lot of squirrels and stray cats on our street, so I never have her out front without a long lead. I may not be holding it all the time while she's out, but it's always within arms reach (it's a 30 foot lead) *Just In Case* prey drive takes over rational thought. Better SAFE than sorry.
I wonder where I went wrong in training her.
No matter how much training, dogs will be dogs, IMO. Dogs will chase and kill squirrels and cats, and they will run after other dogs. You could work on a more reliable recall, using a long lead, so you're always in control, increasing the distance of the recalls as the dog becomes more consistent in coming. Praise like crazy, let the dog do something she REALLY loves like tug, kisses...whatever drives her. or give a special treat that she doesn't get at any other time. Make coming to you a positive event. My pup is a very stubborn dog, and when she was younger, sometimes she would get away from me in the yard when it was time to come in. I learned quickly not to call her to come. There was not use giving the command if I KNOW I can't enforce it. Instead I would run FROM her (never chase your dog, you can't catch them :D ) and her natural inclination would be to chase me. I would run right in the house to the treat bowl, with her hot on my heels for her cookie.

6. What a cutie...congratulations!
7.
Did someone say "tree killer"?? He just turned on the old apple tree with no warning. Poor tree.
Hey...whered'ya get that collar? It's nice!
8. I agree with the above posts, but would like to add one thing: When changing/replacing a behavior, expect the behavior to become MUCH WORSE before it gets better. Toto will whine like never before while you are reconditioning him, but be strong and don't crack under the pressure! Good luck!
9.
Posting pics of cute dogs, accusing other posters of being full of crap, and being in denial of the problems aren't going to solve things.
I don't think the point of cheeky's pictures (and PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong cheeky) was to get into a debate about the plight of the pit bull. She had cute pics of her dogs that she wanted everyone to see, and she posted them. Primrose jumped on the opportunity to get something started off of the topic of the thread, and IMO, she succeeded. I am concerned about the future of pit bulls, as I'm sure most owners who post here are. But that's NOT gonna stop me from posting "pics of cute dogs". I enjoy my dogs, I love them, I'm going to continue sharing them with other owners who still find time to enjoy their pits, and the threat of BSL isn't gonna get my panties in a bunch everytime someone post pics with "sarcastic" captions (since that what someone referred to it as). Life is too short to be so farsighted that you shouldn't enjoy the here and now. Just because someone doesn't want to debate the fears and turmoil of BSL doesn't meant they're in denial. Maybe a forum about BSL should be started. Because, I personally am sick of seeing threads that have NOTHING to do with it being turned into debates about the future of the breed. Maybe the breed will be banned in the future, maybe not. None of us knows for sure, unless some of you have some inside connection that the rest of us don't. Heck, a lot can happen in 10 or 20 years. I'll bet this same prediction of doom and gloom was predicted 10 or so years ago  Can't we just all get along and enjoy pics and threads for the purposes originally intended? Ok...back into my shell...
10. That was REALLY funny :klacz:
11.
ML, what kind of dog is the little one? He/she is just adorable! Very cute pics, BTW.
PLaurent, the little dog is our evil rat terrier. Her name is Daphne.
12. For shame...my two girls are allowed to play together! They even like to pose together! My goodness...THEY EVEN SLEEP TOGETHER! Not all of pit bulls have to be seperated...think I'm sending the wrong message to the public?Shame on me! Edited to add: DISCLAIMER-These adorable, happy pics in no way, shape or form imply that all pitties may play together...tx for the heads up cheeky :evilbat:
13. If worst comes to worst and he won't stop chewing on himself, you could put an e-collar on him until your dad gets back. My dog had surgery a couple weeks ago and keeps licking at the incision. The vet gave me an e-collar to put on her while we can't watch her. They get used to it really fast.
14. What a wonderful person you are Izzy! I'm so glad that dog isn't suffering anymore thanks to you. RIP sweet angel doggy
15.
What's even stranger is that my cats do not care for the Chicken Soup brand of cat food, either, and all but refuse to touch it. _________________
My cats were the same way about it! They picked around it and just ate the old food out for about 2 weeks. Then when the old food ran out and it was all they had, they started eating it (really picky at first...wouldn't even empty their dishes). Right when I was about to give up and try a different brand, they started scarfing it down like there was not tomorrow :stupid: Cats are so weird. Who can figure them out :confused1:
16. I use the Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul. My cats love it. They dont' shed as much and hardly ever have hairballs. I've seen it for dogs at the place where I get my dog food, but I've never fed it to them. It's made by the Diamond Company (dog and cat food).
