1. My close friends Irish Setter had not one but two ruptured discs in his back, with steriods and total bed rest for three weeks, he came through it fine. The hard part is keeping them quiet for three weeks :o . But just as a precaution, I would also suggest that your friend have bloodwork done to check for tick paralysis as well, just to be on the safe side, as the dog does work with livestock.
2. And I would suggest that you contact the local Schutzhund club or a PD handler, they're much better equipped to evaluate a working line GSD. He just might be the dog someone's looking for, jobwise.
3. Here is a great starter menu if you'd like to consider switching to a raw diet. http://dogden.proboards21.com/index.cgi?board=Health&action=display&num=1074988013 If you'd like to check out some books on the subject, anything by Ian Billinghurst is great, some of his titles are "The BARF Diet" and "Give a Dog a Bone". There are also several Yahoo groups dedicated to raw diets that are very helpful. Generally, most start out with just one source of protein, chicken is usually the easiest, and yes, raw, bones and all. Salmonella is rarely a concern, the only times I have seen any issues with it are when the dog in question had a suppressed immune system to begin with. I myself have been feeding raw for close to 8 years, and I'd never go back to any other way. My dogs are the picture of health, shiny coats, less shedding, phenomenal teeth and breath and tons of energy. Ask as many questions as you'd like, we all did before we started :D ! 4. I switched to Evo too (I feed 1/2 and 1/2, half kibble and half raw), and it works out great with the raw diet. So far the only drawbacks have been some stanky gas for a few days and the price of the stuff (I'm paying $42. for the 29 Lb. bag :o ). But I like the compatibility with the raw and the dogs look great  .
5. DAL, is Boonie a purebred Pom? If so, you may want to try the national breed club, sometimes the club will have a fund for rescue dogs just for instances like this. If you'd like the breed club info, let me know and I'll post it up for you. As for being heartworm +, try the treatment, it's not nearly as debilitating as the old cyanide treatments, but the hardest part is trying to keep the dog quiet for several months. We've treated many dogs over the years with our rescue, and every one of them came through it fine, so paws crossed for your little pupper :wolfie: .
6. Yup, that's pretty much right, save your money :-? . Douse it with a little peroxide to clean it out if it's not deep and it's not bleeding hard, and just keep an eye on it for swelling. Don't worry about her licking off peroxide, it's inert and harmless.
7. Did she rip the dewclaw, or just a cut below it? Sometimes if the dewclaw gets long it'll catch on the leg and accidentally cut it open.
8.
I'd be kind of concerned about using a water bottle for a dog that already seems stressed.
Actually, that's pretty much dead on. NEVER punish a dog while it's in the crate, that'll undo everything you're trying to teach the pup, which is the crate is a good place to be. Many times the problem is that most people don't take the time to introduce the crate properly. It should be 2 minutes in the crate, a dozen times the first day or so, always praising and treating. Use a command every single time you put the pup in the crate (I use the term "kennel up"). Set the dog up to suceed, not to fail, and that means letting the pup out of the crate BEFORE it has a meltdown  . Once the pup has gotten the hang of going into the crate, then shut the door, for longer and longer periods of time. And NEVER let the pup out when it starts to bark, the dog will just be training you instead of the other way around  . And filled Kongs or shin bones to occupy the pup will also work wonders as well.
9. Maalox and Pepcid AC are both safe to use, but Jeff might be on the right track, if Pauly picked up a bug or ate something disagreeable, sometimes it's better to let them get it out of their system and yak it out. I hope he feels better soon  .
10.
And I am a big fan of NILIF, and she got upset when I explained it to her, so I'm not going there....
Court, what are her kids like if NILIF upsets her :-? ?
11. A quick BTW on the $30,000 Brittney Spears dog, it turned out that they got hosed by the so-called breeder, the dog turned out to be worthless. They ended getting a dog through Ed Frawley of Leerburg instead, for about $5000. There isn't a PPD out there worth that kind of cash, ever. Nice to know money still can't buy you common sense or a half a brain :-? :P .
12. I would say she's a mix of agouti and sable, both colors have the hallmark "spectacles" like Bug has, but I think she's mostly agouti. Feh, who cares, she's beautiful :D !
13. Here's the AKC color chart http://www.akc.org/registration/colormarkings.cfm And my personal favorite for Huskies http://www.huskycolors.com/
14. This happens all the time, unfortunately :x . Try contacting the site admins at the bottom of the page, they have a "report" link.
15. Kat, you're absolutely right, they shoved this right under the rug :x . I just got my mag today, not a single letter was published about the outrage everyone was feeliong over this, nothing, nada. People just got a letter from me explaining why I will no longer subscribe to their rag, and to cancel me immediately  .
16. Guys, thank you for jumping on this bandwagon, and Newfie, a big thank you for posting the link to the petition :D . Hopefully, something good will come of this.
17. Please check out the Nov. 8 issue of People, in it ther's an article on teen entrepreneurs, one of then being a 16 year old kid who runs Cuddlypuppy.com :o . The site sells the infamous "miniature" breeds of all varieties, so much so that he's made 70 grand doing it :x . Please, write to the editors of People magazine and help educate them on why this should NOT be tolerated! [email protected]
18. Mutts, she certainly looks like a Dobe, and to answer your question , yes, it's possible for two brown eyed dogs to throw a blue eyed pup. Rare, but possible :happy1: .

FLEAS!!

You can also get a flea collar and toss it in your vacuum bag, and vacuum the whole house thoroughly.
20. DMX was just fined by the SPCA here in NJ for keeping 13 pitbulls in the his house, neglected, and loose around two children  . http://www.eonline.com/News/Items/0,1,9366,00.html?newsrellink
21.
yuo can actually use any floor wash you want. thoroughly wash out the swiffer canister, in very hot water, and let it dry. you dont want to mix chemicals, so you have to wash it until you cant smell it any more, and then let it dry. Then you can refill it with whatever liquid floor wash you want.
:hmmmm: :PROXY5: The sound you hear is me smacking myself in the head! That is a great idea Court, I just assumed the tops were part of the bottle and couldn't be taken off. I looove my Swiffer, couldn't live without it with multiple dogs in the house.
22. I do believe we posted at the same time  .
23. Court, it's a 4 to 1 ratio, 4 parts peroxide to 1 part warm water. Forgot to add, you can actually use the peroxide straight, it's inert and harmless, but the warm water is to help break up any gunk that may be sticking. Just pour a bit in her ear (one at a time) and rub the base of the ear to get it in good. Then use a bulb syringe to extract it. Plus, maybe a dose of Benedryl to ease the pressure, it can't hurt to try.
24. Thanks Dal  , I keep forgetting which one's a Foxhound, early senility setting in :P .
