1.
I have to say I am surprised to find what seems to be pro fighting "gameness" sentiments being glamorized here.
Please direct me to a post where anyone has "glamorized" fighting dogs on this board. Just because we're open to discussing matching and fighting doesn't mean we're glamorizing it, just that we want to be educated about it.
I was unaware that there was something called matching, I don't know what it is. Although fighting is the only way to test for "gameness", which is what your talking about.
If you are unaware of what matching is why do you suddenly proceed to condemn it? Don't start talking shit about something you know nothing about. If you want to learn about matching there is information about it in latter threads that you can look up. After you've read those and have a good idea of what it is then feel free to back up your opinion. But going off about something you just stated you have no knowledge of... come on now.
So how is matching controlled, how are there rules are the dogs muzzled, umm I don't understand? So matching is fighting with rules??? umm still illegal, and wrong.
Again, why do you proceed to make that assumption when no one has even answers your questions yet?
I mean I would like to think this is a forum I can be on without comprimising my morals.
Oh please. If you're so ignorant as to run away from a topic everytime it "comprimises your morals" then you won't be on this board long. No one here condones the abuse of animals in any way. But some do not believe that matching is abuse. If you had done your research maybe you would see why.
I can't beleive that this isn't banned on here, a website about dogs, talking about, cruel acts on dogs, should be banned.
Jesus christ, why should it be banned? If we have the information about how fighting goes on and etc then that will help us to help the animals. Ignoring a topic just because it's disgusting does NO good. That's like saying if this was a forum about women, we shouldn't talk about the women in Sudan raped daily as they flee from home. *Edited for a usage mistake.*
2. Ugh, I know what you mean CC. Just the other day puggle was one of MSN's top searches. Somehow it makes me more sad than disgusted. :(
3. That was really sweet Kat. I'm so sorry that you two were seperated. To seperate two friends that are so bonded is such a horrible sin. Happy Birthday Meg.
4. We'd love to see pictures if you'd like to stick around. :D We're a friendly bunch, really.
5. I'm sorry if we're coming across as jumping on you. Everyone here just really cares about the welfare of the animals. In the long run it will be better for everyone if you have your dog spayed now. Less risk of the dog trying to escape to mate, less risk of cancer and other related health problems, less risk of adding more puppies to an already over-populated dog population, less stress and things for you to have to worry about. :D
6. Well I think you would know if you kept an eye on your dog. Why is she not fixed? You best take her to the vet and see. If she's not then I strongly advise a spay.
7. She looks so much like my Abby! Even more so in the pictures you've added. Abby is a border collie/akita mix. (My best guess for her at least.) I definitely see some border collie in your girl, but I doubt pure. The shape of her body and her ears make me think some sort of sighthound, but I couldn't say which. All the ones she seems to resemble are quite rare. Where did you get her?
8. Your dog looks a lot like my Abby! But she is a lot lankier. I agree with the others, probably mixed with some sort of sighthound.

Limited Pet Laws

I also agree that if you are finicially able to care for many dogs and have the time and energy to as well, then you should be able to own as many as you like. I think a limit of 3, like in JM's city is a bit ridiculous honestly. I could see a limit or 6 or 7, maybe 5, but 3? :-?
10. Abby's developing the bad habit of stealing food off of the table (Only our small coffee table that's down on her level.) and even right out of my kid sister's hand or our friends'. (She knows better than to take anything from me or my mom and dad. But my sister and her friends/my friends really aren't forceful enough when they tell her no.) She's never done this before and I want to stop it before it gets any worse. Do you think this is another case of her being dominant? I'm thinking maybe lately we've been too lenient and she's forgetting/challenging her place in the family. Besides re-enforcing NILIF, what else could I do to stop this habit in its tracks? What should I do when she steals something? Usually it results in a firm "no" and a time out in the bathroom.
11. Wow, congrats to both of you! Way to go Candy! I wish I had known about this, I might've been able to come. :(
12. Cute idea. :D I'd like to dress Abby up this year, but I don't know what to do. I want to do something unique. In the past she's been a devil, a witch, and a daisy.
13.
He's a retard, just ignore him.
Wow ESS, what a loving relationship you two seem to have. Just kidding of course, but it's a simple mistake, easily forgiven. You should prompt him to put up some pictures of his doggie. :D
14. Mouse, what's a "pet passport?" Can you explain this to me more? I thought that all dogs coming into the UK had to be quarantined for 6 months, no matter what.
15. I don't think anyone grilled you SPG. All they did was ask and advise.
And if I do move, how will I be able to know if the apartment will allow dogs???
Just ask when you call to find out if renting space is available etc. I don't think you should feel bad about putting Sassy in a pen outside. I do that with Abby often, she likes being outside, I think it's better than keeping her cooped up inside when I'm gone. And I think you would feel even worse if Sassy got hit by a car because you felt bad about putting her in the pen instead. How large is the pen? If she has water and toys I don't see what the problem is with keeping her in there while you're out. :)
16.
Its fascinating that shes doing this, and i truly think that she can detect the change in brain wave activity even before i start feeling that odd feeling in me.
I think so too Kat. I've heard of dogs doing this, and there are some people who have special service dogs just for the purpose of predicting seizures. I can imagine how much of a comfort it would be to have time to "prepare" for the seizure.
17. I'm so sorry Mouse. :( Sending hugs to you and Gladis.
18. On re-reading the e-mail I found the Morgan was pulled. I can't believe I missed that! Great news though. :D
19. :( I recieve e-mails from many shelters around Virginia about dogs in need of rescuing, foster homes, transports, etc etc. This dog was in an e-mail I got today: Subject: KW 6076 -Gold Retriever Mix - King William This dog is at the King William County pound in King William, VA. This is Morgan. Morgan is a gorgeous gold Retriever mix. She is around 7-9 years old, and weighs around 40 lbs. Morgan is due to be euthanized August 29. Please email or call ASAP if you can help save her. She looks so sweet, yet so sad. I wish I could take her. :(
20. Tammy my heart aches for you and there are tears in my eyes. I cannot even imagine the pain of having to give up your animals after losing everything. :( Many hugs and well wishes coming your way.
