1. Does his food contain more sodium than he can handle?
2.
Scary! :o Is that normal? :o Wierd... :-? :D And somehow kinda cute....
:o Ahhhhh! He's rabid! His head shape and color looks like Luka.
3. Luka forgets sometimes because he humped Cheetah's dog, and trust me, it wasn't an act of "proving dominance." Usually, he won't even try to mark, so he just gets full of himself and thinks he's a "studmuffin" when there's a "chick" around.
4. That's great that your Staffie's dog friendly, but remeber *dogs do not show their aggressiveness towards other dogs until they are fully mature!* Your puppie's friendliness now is not a foreshadow of how your dog will be past a year old. Although there are many dogs that are fine with other dogs and I really hope that your dog will remai that way, but there is no guarantee. Continuation of socialization is crucial, but it may just have to do with your dogs personality. Trust me, I've recently experienced this.
5. As long as you knew better for the next time and as long as you took loving care of your dog. I didn't know that pet stores sold mixes, besides cockapoos and labradoodles and stuff like that. Is there such name as a border retriever? I am a shelter volunteer, so I've experienced all sorts of dogs. Most of them are either strays (so many pits, labs, and shelties and shepherd mixes), but the ones that are surrendered are given up because the owner's can't handle their behavior problems. The main cause of these behavior problems is that irresponsible owners will buy that cute little puppy from the pet store window, before researching the breed or dog, for that matter. Then, because of improper training and socialization, they form all sorts of problems. My dog Luka was one of them. He had severe separation anxiety and was self-destructive when left alone. He also learned how to jump the six feet fence at the shelter when he was left alone. Well, after three weeks at our house, he's able to stay alone for 5.5 hours. They were just doing it incorrectly and confusing him, blaming the damage on Luka.
6. I taught Luka the sit, down, paw, wait (for food and toys), wave hi, catch, beg (sit upright), pease (but both hands on person's lap), hug, and lie on back to show belly. I really want to teach him to crawl, flip and catch the food of his nose, heel, and retrieve, but I just can't do it right :( . By the way, he's bilingual, English and Japanese!
7. First of all, if your Staffie's only a puppy, you might want to wait a while to get another dog. I don't have much experience with Staffies, but I know that once the dog grows out of his puppy stage and enters his teenager stage, he might try to rebel against you to try to prove his dominance, where repetition of your previous training and patience, consistency, and firmness will reflect the outcome of the adult dog. Am I making any sense to you? It would be challenging, especially if you get another puppy. You will have to go to puppy school and obedience with the second dog as well, and by that time, you might be dealing with a mischievous puppy AND a rebellious teenager. Unless you have previous experience with dogs, I would wait to see how your staffie turns out. He might be more work than you expected, no problem at all, or not the best dog for your family. In the meantime, take your Staffie to doggie day care and get it socialized, because no matter how well the dog gets along with other dogs now, their potential aggressiveness doesn't show up until they are fully grown. Then, you'll not what kind of dogs your Staffie will get along with. Also, (I've heard of these cases) dogs that live together may bond closer to each other than to the owners, that they may share bad habits. For example, a non-barker may be influenced by an excessively barking dog to become an excessive barker. Same with habits such as digging, fence climbing, etc. That's why sometimes you see stray dogs together. They got out together... I actually had two stray shepherds at my house two weeks ago cuz they followed Luka and me home from our walk...
8. Wait a minute... I'm confused, as always  . I thought somebody copied a different post of dogo somewhere onto the other one called "Does Laduenda support dog fighting?" Are you all saying that that post was from a different chat site? Whoa, where have I been?! What a misunderstanding! That makes a bit of a difference... I agree, they shouldn't have just posted it off of a different site in that manner, without talking to Lad first or posting it as written by anonymous, not revealing Lad's name. Isn't that similar to plagirism anyways? If there is a problem at a different site, I don't think it should be brought into dogo, especailly if it's going to cause such controversy! They should straighten it out over there! It's a different story if it's a controversy about something that isn't as serious, such as good ways to groom your dog or whatever, but you know, good judgement is everything!
9. I wouldn't worry about it much. He may have reacted out of fear. If it were a really serious problem, I'm sure any sensible vet assistant would have talked to the vet or to you about it. Plus, one vet assistant told me that Luka's separation anxiety would get worse as he bonded closer with us, and that he needed to be trained out of itIMMEDIATELY, but as he got used to us, he got better. He was just insecure about his new home - shows how much she new! Good Luck, and I'm glad they're all better!
10. Although set rules may be helpful, I would have to agree with K that as with any rules, there can be so many exceptions that people would come up with. That may become hectic because there is always going to be somebody who is going to disagree. I thought that Laduenda said that she was going to leave and find a different post or something like that. How come she hadn't said (or typed) a word since her contract/gameness/breeding/chaining debate, and then all of a sudden, she comes back :drinking: and drunk, asks a seemingly silly question, and returns, just to defend herelf. *My point is, that I'm just sick of people that don't help the others and aren't involved with most of the conversations, but just return and seem to start up a whole big disagreement. I think it's SELFISH and EGOISTIC. If you're going to be on here, be a true dog lover, be honest, and think about the other people around you. Speak now, or forever hold your peace! *Disclaimer - This is just the honest point of view of a high school sophomore, who still has a lot of life lessons to learn.*
11. I adopted Luka in January at 1yr 1 month old and he had already been neutered. I'm pretty sure he was neutered fairly early. He doesn't mark and he doesn't wander either. Probably all due to the fact that he was fixed early, before he felt the need to be a "guy."
12. People, especially those with kids or inexperience with dogs, are even afraid of Luka! He's a lab/pointer mix! He'll be wagging his tail, but the hair on his back will be sticking up cuz he's a scardy cat!
13. This isn't the shelter I volunteer at, but I visited when I was looking for a dog. This poor German Shepherd has been at this shelter for 5 months at the very least. She is a SENIOR and if that isn't bad enough, she was attacked by another dog at the shelter. A careless volunteer put a pitbull and Melody together, so as apparent in the picture, she lost part of her ear. Melody sounds like a very calm and sweet girl that needs a better life than one at a shelter for the remainer of her life. No one seems to want to adopt her because she's an older and larger dog with a "not so perfect" ear. I betchya they discriminate her for it. How terrible would I feel if she never found a new home at her age. *BTW, the shelter is a strays only shelter* I doubt that any of you live close enough, but if you know anyone who'd be interested in her, let them know! Thanks! http://www.petfinder.org/pet.cgi?action=2&pet=1269951&adTarget=468petsgeneral&SessionID=3e6fb8a16ede88f5-app1&display=&preview=1&row=0
14. You won't believe this! This lady surrendered her two dogs to the shelter I volunteer at. One was a male and the other was a female, both not fixed. We were like, "Are these dogs used for breeding? How many litters had she had so far?" Then the lady was like, "Oh no! We don't breed our dogs. But don't worry, they won't because they're siblings." We were like "Whoa!" Talk about clueless owners. Dogs don't care about incest and stuff like that!
15. That's exactly what I was thinking Bullwise. I rarely see dogs fighting and going for each others testicles, I don't think...
16.
but there were ASUMPTIONS (and we all know what happens when you asume eh? )
Assume is spelled assume. That's why there's the cliche, "Don't assume, cuz you'll be making an @$$ out of u and me!" :o :D
17.
Do I support dog fighting? Well if you call buying pups/dogs from someone who is suspected of dog fighting supporting them then yes.
Is is just methat's questioning this? Why would you buy dogs from anybody that was suspected of that in the first place?
18. But I don't understand what kind of question that is or what she was thinking! I mean, one thing about the dog fighting, but another about asking us if our dogs lost their testicles due to a game dog!!! Why not mention other limbs or body barts, such as the ears or whatever?... Honestly, did she think that any of us would have offered her advice/answers/personal experience stories about a question like that? Oh yeah, I forgot, she was :drinking: ...
19. Bonjour Marie! Je suis americaine, mais j'etudie francais a l'ecole. Avez-vous un chien? Mon chien s'appelle Luka. J'aime le chien de ton ami, mais je ne sais pas ce qu'est le chien. Je suis desolee. Mais j'aime les oreilles de chien! Elle ressemble
20. Wow! Laduenda? Can she have been so drunk to have posted this? She asked us this? Did she seriously think that any of us would have answered "yes" to her question? I mean I know she bred PB and she was totally for chaining and her contract was really bear minimum for someone to be considered a responsible owner, but dog fighting?!?!
21. Alright, you know how people say cats aren't pack animals... Well, what about lions? They usually live in packs, don't they? They cooperate to raise their young an to catch prey. Also, wolves in the wild will never "cuddle" to sleep. They will all have their "territories," so they sleep in their own little circle, with about three feet of space between each dog.
22. It gets stinky there cuz don't dogs sweat from their paws? If you have linoleum or wooden floors, doesn't the dog slip if it has so much hair on its feet? We have all carpeting in the rooms, but Luka slips in the kitchen all the time.
23. I'm more of a dog person, but ever since volunteering at the animal shelter, I've become very fond of cats. Until I was in the Jr. High, I used to be allergic to cats. I guess I've just become immuned. I like the face of the Persians too! I don't have anything personal against cats except that their litter boxes and male anal sacs stink!!! For me, it's harder to predict a cat, so I'm afraid that they'll all of a sudden turn around to bite or scratch me. Unlike dogs, a lot of the cats at the shelter hate having their stomachs touched, so if you give them a belly rub, they give you a long, red, swollen tattoo across your arm and face. . I have the hardest time identifying cat breeds. They all look similar to me, with very little distinctness. How do I tell them apart? I like the short haired cats a lot better, just cuz it doesn't get my allergies going. I love the gray, slender DSH and the Siamese. I also prefer the smaller cats.
24. So true, so true. Luka would be saying, "I see it, there it is, there it is, right there ... Oh, me, me!!!! Pleeeeeeze let me change the light bulb! Can I? Can I? Huh? Huh? Huh? Can I?" (Pointer/Lab). Then he'd prolly be saying, "But I only work for food..."
25. Under supervision, of course, Luka LOVES plastic water bottles, especially the ones with the ridges on the body. Whenever he bites it, it crinkles. If the cap is left on make sure he doesn't chew it off and swallow it), he'll bite it but it will bounce right back up because of all the air pressure in it. It's a short 5 minute toy I give him when he gets bored. I'll also fill it with water and freeze it and I cut the plastic off it. Giant icicle! He loves licking it and pawing it around!
