1. Are Wiggly Gigglys any good to catch a dog's interest? Luka will only play with toys that will "interact" with him. He doesn't like anything unless I throw it for him. And are there any really "tuff" stuffed animals or something? Luka likes the fuzziness and softness, but none of the stuffed animals can stand up to his teeth.
2. Oh yeah! That too! Make sure you have plenty of time to spare. Time to get ready, warm up, check your classes, etc. That way, if something does go wrong, you have time to make it right! :D
3. It was prolly a Maltese. Thir hair doesn't always need to be long. It's a preference thing, unless you're going to show it, where you would need the hair long. Try these pictures... 4. Awwwww!!!!! He's a little cutie! For my first horse show, I was soooo nervous that I would screw up and make a fool out of myself. But my trainer told me that an animal will feel what you're feeling, so if you feel nervous, they will too. Just relax and think of it as a fun, learning experience. So what if you don't pin? You'll just have the experience to do better next time. At my first horse show, I pinned a 3rd and a 6th! As soon as I got into the ring and the class started, I totally forgot about my nerves and just started concentrating on the horse and my form. It was just like riding at the barn.
5. Luka felt more comfortable around other dogs if I wasn't holding him. This way, he didn't feel as though he had to protect me. He also plays more with female dogs, less with males.
6. I know that there are dog mints that you're supposed to feed one tablet every day for ten days or something like that. Supposedly, it causes the dog to want to lick its own teeth clean. It's supposed to freshen the dog's breath too. As with any product, you still have to brush their teeth. Also try dentabone and stuff.
7. Monday's (the 24th - tomorrow) Animal Cops on Animal Planet is supposed to be dealing with dog fighting, big time. Cops involved and everything... I know what you mean. Those irresponsible, ignorant people never learn. All they care about is making $$$ cuz they bet on the dogs, pay big $$$ for a strong fighter, and charge people to watch the "show." Rggg! How can they not see the cruelty in the sport? Seriously, are they crazy for thinking that it's okay to do, As long as there's $$$ involved? The main problem is, that those "poor" people who end up with fighting dogs don't get their dogs fixed, so when they don't want their "weak" dogs anymore, they throw them out, causing them to reproduce, producing feral dogs, maybe picked up again to be trained to fight, the people get arrested, and all the dogs get PTS. RGGGGGGGG!
8. Oooooo~! I love paints! Definitely pictures! Do you have one? BTW, are some cheese bad for dogs? I mean, the weird ones like blue cheese and camabert and stuff?
9. OMD Cheetah! Me too! For the past week I've been getting the dreaded x. Now, for the first time since then, I can see all the pics!!!
10. I heard from the shelter I volunteer at to never go to the Petsmart training sessions. All they do is teach you the basics and then they just tell you how to do the rest so that you can practice it at home. It's not really an interactive class, but rather like a training manuel.
11. Luka loves cheeeeeese so much that he gets all excited and loses his mind. He'll start voluntarily doing all of his tricks before I even decide to give him one. When I do decide, I'm shut out of his world, completely! When I ask for a sit, he'll lie down, the beg will be the paw, the roll over will be the dance, well, you get the picture. And he does this nonstop... up, down, sideways, reverse... jump, hop, skip, flip... twinkle twinkle little star... how I wonder what you are (sorry, it just went with the flow and I got carried away). This is just with cheese, so far. He'll anticipate and try to impress me with all his tricks... What do I do? Anybody else have this problem?
12. Yeah advice like Poofy said is prolly the best way to go, but with people with anger management issues, it's a bit more difficult. They aren't going to appreciate being told what to do or being told that they're causing problems. And tere's no guarantee that the owner will actually research or want to spend more time and money on the dog, at which time, surrendering the dog is best. If you're going to tell him, you've got to do it nonchallantly. Maybe start a normal conversation, talk about your dogs, ask how his dog is doing, and if he brings up his dog and the barking problem, go from there. If he doesn't bring his dog up, just be like "You've got a very exhuberant pup. I've been hearing his little bark a lot recently. How is he?" I know it's not going to work as smoothly, but it's better than sitting around worrying about the dog. And like alicat said, take him in. That way, when you return him or whatever, you can ask about him. Just make sure that with those people, you don't get accused of being a dog thief. If they don't come reclaim the dog right away, you'll know that they don't care/worry about the dog enough to give him a good home. We had two neighbors with dogs that would bark at as whenever my sis and I were out in the yard minding our own businessses. They didn't think that barking was a big issue... They said that dogs bark. Well, all the neighbors constantly called to complain, and eventually, even the police. They had to move to a country where there were no neighbors...
13. What behle said... I can see all the pics in the posts... Sometimes, I won't even get the dreaded x right away, but the pic sign, you know, with the red square, blue triangle and green circle... And my little internet connection symbol at the top right of the window will keep spinning and spinning and spinning... Eventually, after about 5 minutes, I'll get the dreaded x's.
14. No problem! Although it's a bit late for Valentine's Day, I thought it was interesting how different kinds of chocolate had different toxitity...
15. For the past week, none of the pictures on Dogo will appear on my computer. They're all dreaded X's. This includes the Dogo logo pic at the top left hand corner of the page, the Dogo.com Forum Index page pic at the top, the Breed of the moment pic under the "Recent Discussions" section, and some other pic at the bottom of the screen. Does this mean that in a while, I won't be able to use the site?!
16. Do you know if they still want to keep the dog or they don't know how to give it up, or they just don't realize that they're doing wrong or whatever? Convincing them to surrender their dog would probably avoid a lot of the problems, but people aren't that cooperative. Plus, they will probably become offended. Be careful, especially if they're physically abusive and have anger management control issues. Sorry, but I'm stumped, cuz there isn't enough evidence to turn him in...
17. Hehe - I told you it was really good! Like I said in school, I love the choice of words, the image reminds me of Animal Precinct, and the ending is a killer -> "this boy
18. Interesting facts about chocolate ingestion. Helpful to know... WHY IS IT TOXIC? In addition to a high fat content, chocolate contains caffeine and theobromine, two different types of stimulants that affect the central nervous system and the heart muscle, as well as increasing the frequency of urination. SYMPTOMS Symptoms include: restlessness, hyperactivity, muscle twitching, increased urination and/or excessive panting. If your pet isn
19. I forgot Manchester too. People there are considerably wealthy. My barn charges $20 for a lesson, whereas people there will charge up to $40. Not to mention that most people have their own horses.
20. Don't forget that it also depends on where you live. For example, I know that in Boston, people will spend A LOT of money on their children and their pets, so the costs are just set up pricier. If your class is in Massachusetts, Amherst, or Hollis (where a lot of wealthy people live), people would be willing to pay $135, so it's not considered pricey. If it's in Nashua or Hudson, it will be considered pricey. One class in Japan is about $70.

SHIBA INU'S

Like gigishiba, I've heard that males are better. I heard they were more of a sort of "yeah, sure" (passive) type, whereas the females are more stubborn/stressed and won't let off as easily.

Pet Stores Laws

I didn't mean all of Europe. I meant somewhere with a Romantic language. It might have been Paris. I saw it on this Japanese animal documentary a couple of years ago.
23. Cheetah's dog is tattooed. I'm getting Luka microchipped, hopefully this week, at the shelter where I adopted him. The fee is $15, but we have to pay the shelter $10 for performing it. My vet's office will only tattoo.

SHIBA INU'S

Wow! An Akita and now a Shiba? Talk about going Japanese (both breeds are Japanese and so am I!). It all depends on the dog and how it's raised, but both dogs aren't the greatest with other dogs, and the Akitas tend to be less tolerant of other dogs. I'm sure they would be fine if they're raised together, but if they feel competition, they could end up in a quarrel. I know a family from my Saturday JPNese school and they have two shibas that get along fine. I'm so jealous cuz I love both akitas and shibas. I think they're gorgeous (it must be in the blood). By the way, INU means dog, in JPNese, of course! From http://www.dogbreedinfo.com: "The Akita is very aggressive to other dogs and animals and should therefore never be allowed to run off its lead around other animals. It should definitely be supervised with other household pets and children." "The Shiba is alert, lively, bold, independent, but affectionate and loving. Kind, trainable, brave and clean. Confident, fearless and courageous. A big dog in a small dog's body. Agile, fast and playful. Charming and open. Bark little and bond closely with their handler while remaining independent. Reserved with strangers but children do not usually cause any problems, for Shiba's make good companions for children. Socialize this breed well as a puppy. They do well with other dogs and cats if they are raised with them from puppyhood, though they tend to be aggressive with members of the same sex. Don't trust this dog around other small pets such as rodents and small birds. It is not usually a reliable off-leash dog. It is easy to housebreak these dogs because they are naturally fastidious."

Pet Stores Laws

Well, you know how so many people are against the selling of puppies/kittens in pet stores (well, at least I am), how come there hasn't been any laws against that yet? I know that in Europe, it's illegal for pet stores to sell live animals because of the numerous amounts of ignorant, irresponsible people that buy them. Or why can't they pass a law so that only pet stores that supply intelligent, experienced, pet purchase match-makers are allowed to sell animals? I'm sure there's so much that could be a solution, how come none of it seems to seriously be happening? What does it take to set up a law/regulation/rule like that? Does the government not see the necessity of it? Do I just have no life that I just think of stuff like this through too far?
