1. I don't yell at Chelsea when she pees, but when she does hurt Daisy, I do. At other times, if I try to get her to do something she will just pee AGAIN. Tonight she peed in the den, and I don't know why???? Jake was in the room and we were playing fetch, and Daisy was chewing on a bone..... then I turned and saw a puddle on the rug and Chelsea ran and hid behind the sofa. Maybe she is peeing for attention??????????
For alot of dogs, fear is due to lack of socialization during the critical period of socialization
That is exactly what I thought when we first got her. She has come a very long, long way since then. I have even thought that she might be older than what the humane society told us. If I did place her, it couldn't be with just anybody....... I would have to know the people or through someone else. I could never bring her to a shelter. I don't know if I could ever give her up......... Sometimes I feel it would be best.
2. Hey everybody, Chelsea, our rescue from Maryland is really giving us trouble (and we have had her to the vet for this). She is a submissive pee-er and pees in the house for other reasons often. Our vet suggested giving her melatonin for her anxieties, including the submissive peeing. It has given her a little boost of confidence, but has not really helped with the peeing. We were told we could up her dosage, and we have. I now give her 300 mcg's in the morning with breakfast and one in the eveing with her dinner. The poor dog is afraid of her own shadow (literally)! But, she has an agressive attitude too. (only with the other dogs in the house) When Jake and Daisy play, she gets very upset and dominating. She tries to dominate Daisy, and last night she actually head-butted her and got Daisy in the eye!! Daisy cried  I don't know what to do about her. I can't even take her for a long walk because she gets so scared - She is very good by herself, and would be a loving "only" dog, I have seen it. She is very affectionate. But, WHAT DO I DO???? I am starting, very seriously to think she would be better off as an only dog. We talked to the rescue about what could have possibly happened to her to make her this way (she was only about 4 months old when we got her), but they just thought that I wanted to give her back!! That was more than a year ago. We have been working with her, and I have come to the conclusion that she maybe interbred. She is not like any dog we have ever had.... Any ideas?????????
3. Jake is a yellow lab, and is just a year old. He loves to swim by the way. We take all three to a dog park with a lake from time to time (but it's far) and he will be enjoying our backyard pool soon. I would love to be able to get him on my treadmill...... how the heck could I do that? I have tried before, but not very seriously. (P.S. my class doesn't start until 1:30!!! Yea! only half a day)
4. Yes, I agree!! You are very kind. Isn't it odd that we all have big hearts for stray dogs, but if we were to walk past a homeless person, we would be offended and not even let them see us look their way........ (don't know where that came from  ) Best of luck to your new little friend. Hope it all works out for him. He has a very sweet face.
5.
but i still want to pick up the poop and go knock on her door and say i saw you and yoru dog in my backyard. and i think you forgot soemthing.. GRR
   Just what I was thinking!!!! Love the pepper idea!!! I have three dogs, and always clean up after them!!! and some bleeping neighbor has been letting their dog poop on my front lawn :x ....and I have a very nice front yard!!! (you should see the back  ) So, glad I read this post!!! Good luck, and keep your cool  That's what this place is for
6. All great advice! Thanks  I think, at times, and most of the time, that I just have too many dogs  I will never give one up, but just realize that three are too many for me. Daisy is a lot calmer now that she is 4, and Chelsea has matured nicely (she is a little over a year) and Jake, well, you know about Jake  .... The three together are a handful. The only time we can really do things "together" is at the dog/park. When I walk them, now, I usually just take turns, and it is a lot of work. When I am stressed at work (like now), and have all the usual problems at home (Joe and his job, my Mom [who lives with us], etc.) it is just a little overwhelming.... heavy sigh.... It seems I never have time to myself :( Now, I have a Saturday class starting tomorrow, and it is one of those all day-ers :-? Oh well, when I finally finish my degree and make "the big bucks" I'll buy a big dog ranch where they can run around all day  Sorry guys................. just a little ranting
7. It goes in spurts  I do ignore him, or try to most of the time, but someone else in the house (and myself from time to time) will yell at him to be quiet. He has come a very long way, and I wrote this at a desperate moment :-? . He really is such a good boy. He is border trained, listens to most of my commands, but just lovessssssss attention, and barks A LOT!!! He also won't leave the other two dogs alone!!! He want attention from anyone. He gets the most exercise out of my three because I realize that HE NEEDS it!! So far this week, he has been on 3, two mile walks with me. Heck, I'm tired  I really like the idea of making him wait for what he wants. He is such a pushy boy!! What is the best way to handle that? Thanks everybody!!! I really appreciate your help!!
8. Oh, I love that show!!! That was so touching
9. I am at my wits end!! Jake is driving me crazy. He is one year old now, and constantly barks at me for attention. I am trying to be very patient with him. I know that he need extra exercise (and attention) and it is mostly his age.... Daisy was the same way, and almost gave her up for more than one reason, but didn't. She is calm and just great now. I am so stressed between work, home and THREE dogs!!!!!!!!! I just can't do it all!!!! I try to work with him, knowing I am stressed, and "pretend" not to be upset, but my acting days are limited!!!!!!!!!!! I don't have the money for a trainer, Joe is finally leaving the pizza shop (I will believe it when I see it) and our income is not what it used to be :( So, I can't afford training. I love him so much, and intellectually know things will get better, but I need help now!!!!!!!! He is so demanding, the alpha and very pushy!! He won't leave poor Chelsea alone. Always grabing her by the neck (with his mouth) and chasing her or Daisy all over the house!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!! Did I mention he barks at me all the time?
10. I voted!! Alfie has a big lead!! Yea!!
11. Wow, looks like they came to the right yard :D It is good to see you again Behle. (I haven't been around much myself  - it's hard with work and school....) Any way, speaking as a owner/lover of three dogs, DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!! If I only had a crystal ball..... Two dogs are soooooooooooo much easier than 3 (or 4)!! I love them all so much, but you should really think about a few things before taking the plunge. Twice as much um... poo to clean up, twice as many walks to take, twice as many bills to pay, the hair, the hair, the barking, the barking, the "pack" issues, the barking, the hair. Did I mention the barking, like now with a lovely cool morning (finally) and the open windows..... Don't hate me everybody, but I just had to bring in the other side!! Good luck, and good luck to your two new roomies!!
12. Oh, poor Ruby :( Sorry to hear of her poor health, Marion. Hope all is well soon!!!!
13. YES!! He sure can get worms (if that dog had worms....) It would be a safe and good idea to have your dog de-wormed. They will take a stool sample, but will probably de-worm any way. Good luck
14.
" He is a male and all males want 1 thing no matter what and I am scared he will jump on my backside and do the naughty!!." I'm like, Ma give me a break!! Poor Ma...
I have no good stories, but that cracked me up!!!!
15. Wow Minna, lovely Easter Card!! Best wishes from all of us to all of you too! Gina, Daisy, Jake and Chelsea
16. She is beautiful!!! Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!1
17. DARN, I thought this was going to be about a lawyer getting bitten by a dog!!!!!!!!!
18.
Most parks have rules about controlling your dog anyway
This one does too!! We even have to pay yearly dues (which I'm sure most people don't pay), but there really isn't anyone around to enforce the rules. I was "pi$$ed"!!! But, went about telling them in a round-about way
19. I had this yuppy couple yesterday at the park who let thier dog jump all over me about 6 times!!!!!! I had a big waterbottle with a drinking bowl attached and when I gave my three a drink, this poor dog was so thirsty. So, of course I gave him a drink. He was soooooooo thristy. But then he wouldn't leave me alone!!! So I was trying to give him more but he was jumping all over me... The couple just said "don't do that Corky, Oh, he is so thirsty. We gave him a drink BEFORE we left" BEFORE THEY LEFT!! It was warm, he is running and playing, AND THEY HAD NO WATER FOR HIM!!! Don't get me wrong, I don't mind sharing, but I have three dogs, and ONE bottle of water. Some people just don't think. They are total [__________ ___________s] Again, your choice there!!! The worst thing was, when I said, "Oh, I guess it's time to get the coat dry cleaned" they still didn't pull him down!!! I just kept brushing the mud off  The guy told me they never worry about getting dirty at the dog park!!! I said, "WELL, MY THREE DON'T JUMP ON ME!!!" They finally left!!! Thank Dog!!!! Well, we had fun any way!@!! Jake met a cute brindle boxer and they ran up and down the park together!! It was so cute. They were both the same age and had the same energy level
20. Really bonding with their dog :x some people are such [__________] fill in the blank!!
21. That was lovely  So very sorry for your loss........... but glad she was there to show you her ways  Rest in Peace Lily
22. Wow, that's great!! Very nice of you to bring the bag of food too :D  Everybody should be as appreciative!!

Barking

I am having similar problems with Jake, but a water bottle is working a little with him (even though he likes water). I just give him the "quiet" command and squirt him. But, I have heard that you are supposed to ignore the barking (when they are barking at you for attention). Any attention, negative or not is still attention, and you are feeding on the barking. It is hard to ignore, but works for me sometimes..... Sorry, I know what it's like :-?
