Well some of the breeds are quite rare. We have a SLoughi and Cirneco dell' Etna, both are listed on the site.
There are about 200 sloughis currently in the US, with only 1-2 litters in north america per year.
And I know with the Cirneco, there was recently born the first litter ever here in Germany. SO both breeda are far from common..

Yeah, I'd have to disagree with some of them too.
Rat Terriers are pretty common here, my cousin used to have one and you see them all the time running around the streets getting into trouble
They don't have Papillons on the list, I guess they wouldn't be considered rare in some places, but aside from my own two and Monties parents, I have only seen two other Papillons in my life, one of them was at training and was the final push that made me get one of my own after years of wanting one! It took me three months to track down Montie, then about a month to track down Cassie, after dozens of emails to breeders around australia.
I guess different countries just have different rare breeds :-?

I've only seen three Papillons my WHOLE life. The first time I saw a man walking two and I nearly crashed my car because I was trying to get a better look,I've always loved the breed and it was the first time I'd seen it in the flesh,It sounds sad,but I was pretty excited!

The second time I saw one idly running the streets,I stopped to see if it was ok and if it had a collar, but it was scared and ran away. That was pretty amazing for me actually.

I've always thought a Rat Terrier is the same thing as a Fox Terrier,is that true? And a mini Rat Terrier the same as mini Fox Terrier,or as a tv personality (Don Burke) dubbed them 'Tenterfield Terrier'.

Not that Im endorsing ANYTHING Don Bourke says!!!He's a stupid man who endorses 'Designer Breeds',And I'm sure I've heard he actually owns puppy mills, dont quote me,Im pretty sure though.Sure I think Designer Breeds are cool.....they're the ones abandoned in the RSPCA,called good old mutts!

But I've seen sites we're they have been called Tenterfield Terriers, and I've heard that people have taken on this name for the breed.

 Three different breeds, toy fox terriers usually have bigger erect ears and the rat terrier usually has a shorter docked tailed.Tenterfield is also a different breed from both of them.

here's another look alike

When I first got Didi,I was confused all these breeds look exactly alike!! :-? Did you notice that all of them are terriers, inbred with the same breeds (smooth fox terrier, chihuahua, italain greyhound, and breed for the same purpose?! :o But,in the end we found out she was a rat terrier. My dog below.....

Oh I like Freddie the rat terrier, he's cute! :D

Nookie, where did you get Didi from? I've been so confused this whole time, when ever people would say to me they have a Rat Terrier, or a Tenterfeild Terrier, I'd wonder why they didn't just call it a mini foxy? Now I know, they're different breeds!

Kookie, I think a big part of the reason that you don't see too many Papillons around is that most of the big breeders are out of town, look up any Papillon breeder in Australia and I'm sure you'll see photos of acerage and lots of Paps running around in the bush lol, kinda cute. The kennel I got Montie from was in Penrose, over an hours drive from Wollongong, out on a big property. I got Cassie from Quinvale Kennels, which is near brisbane, if you know where Samsonvale is? She also came from a big bushy property. Farfalla Kennels, where I will hopefully be getting my next Pap from, is also on a property.

I remember the first time I saw a Papillon too, it was back when I was young and shy and never talked to anyone I didn't know. Well I saw a Papillon with an old lady and forgot my years of shyness and ran up and started talking to her

If you ever came past my house though, you could almost double the number of Paps you've seen

I got Didi from my mother's friend.Actually I never seen a papillon personally that I can remember, but I sure love looking at them, esp. their ears, they are in like in the top ten cutest dog.And I heard they have the greatest personality. If I ever owned one I bet there would never be a dull moment :P .Breeds are rare depending like in states. Some people might think a breed is rare in NY,but is very common in FL.I guess it all depends on the location.

I guess breeds really do vary by region/country. Pitty's are a dime a dozen here, you see many on every block! Presa's are extremly uncommon, as I have only ever seen 1 before other then Jada. Also, American Bulldogs are very uncommon here.... don't know if I've ever seen more then 1 or 2?

Yeah thanks for the info Nookie,it really cleared it all up for me! :D

Aroura, actually not long ago I was looking to get a Pap from Quinvale,I emailed them and I enquired about them, but I realised it wasnt the right time to get one(im doing year 12,have a part time job and play club and rep soccer)I want to be able to commit 100% of my time to a beautiful Papillon,so within the next 10 years Im sure I'll adopt one!

For now I'l have to get by researching about them, and looking at pics(including your beautiful babies!

Oh,this is knid of off the topic, but I used to live in the 'Gong! :D

I've never seen a Presa, or an American Bulldog - you get all types of mixes with those types of breeds here though, because Pig Dogs are all the go, everyone is proud to be a pigger with their big butch dogs chained to the back of their ute, then they eye Lily off when I'm walking her down the street

Kookie, its good you're waiting to get a Pap, a lot of people get little dogs thinking they don't require much time, but they need just as much training and socialising as big dogs, otherwise they turn into antisocial, aggressive little brats (uncommon with Papillons, but it can happen with any breed). They are the most pleasant little things to have in your life if you have the time and love to give them, they really are a joy to own!

For now, keep looking at pics, and keep Quinvale in mind, its a great kennel, another one I would reccomend, Monties lines are from their stock, is Farfalla - Monties mother was a Farfalla Papillon, and she was the cutest, most friendly dog I have ever seen (except of course, for my own!)

I think everyone has either lived in the 'Gong or got friends there! When I got Montie I met with his breeder at her sisters house in Bulli, if I ever moved down that way I think I'd probably move to Bulli 8)

My auntie lives in Bulli! :D Its a great little town

I used to live a little more South then that Stanwell Tops,so yes that statement runs: true I think everyone has either lived in the 'Gong or got friends there!

Your right about the pig dogs, the first, and only,Pit Bulls I ever knew were piggers! My cousin owned a few,I was only a little girl when this happened, like 6,so I assumed it was normal and the done thing. But looking back on the stories of the poor dogs being mauled and killed I literally feel sick  .But for a long time I actually though Pitties were breed to hunt pigs, but I know different now.

They lived down the sreet from me,and the female dogs were continually pregnant  ,but as a little girl I thought it was great to play with the beautiful puppies! :D It was fun for me as a kid,and I never thought of Pit Bulls a vicious,or dangerous,as I grew up knowing the true beauty of the Bullies free from accusations and sterotypes.

Pretty much anything and everything that is large or aggressive gets bred as a pig dog here. A lot have blue heeler thrown in for sharpness and aggression, mastiff for size, pit bull for killing ability, and a few have some pointer, boxer etc for various reasons. The latest "Pig Dog" pups I've heard of were a litter of Irish Wolfhound cross Saint Bernard, I don't see how they would make good piggers, but thats what they were sold as and the ignorant people trying to sell them burnt off their whiskers to make them look tough and fed them on big chucks of liver in an effort to beef them up, but rather they gave them vitamin A and D toxicity, and the pups were lucky to be alive. One of the girls at dog training "rescued" one of these pups, who now enjoys gallumping around the house and eating a proper diet, and is getting bigger every time I see it!!! :o

I can't see the site that was posted for some reason but I guess it all comes down to where you are for what is considered rare.

There are quite a few dogs that I have never seen in real life and one of those is a pit bull. It's funny how they are so common in the U.S. but I have never ever seen one.

I also saw my first standard poodle a few weeks ago. I had seen plenty of toy's but never a standard.

Most of the dogs around my area are labs, goldens, border collies, rotties etc..
