1. a bathe every 8 weeks is not too often. I have a customer with a Samoyed who comes in every 4 weeks, and still takes me a long time to do, I can't imagine what he'd look like if he came in every 8 weeks! A warm bath helps get out loose undercoat. Shaving the whole dog just because of mats behind the ears doesnt sound right at all, are you sure there where no mats anywhere else on the body?
2. I've seen that happen to heavily matted cats and dogs at my work. When the mats are really bad, they basically pull the hair out, and whats left when the mat is shaved is a big bald spot.
3.
I did read that. But it also says she didnt go after him, she just assumed the dog would come back. Im sorry but friendly or not, dogs shouldnt be running around loose. Like I said, people with pit bulls need to be more careful. If it was a lab do you think the guy would use the excuse he stabbed it cause he was scared? Of course, it would still be wrong for a lab to be running around loose. Honestly, AAP, if your dog gets out are you going to assume he'll come back and not go after him? Especially in a place that has been having issues with pit bulls? I know I would be right on his butt. He wouldnt have even gotten out of my sight. I think both parties are wrong here. Moreso the guy but the owners should have been more responsible with thier dog.
I dont think this is the time for placing blame. Yes, she could of been more careful. But accidents like a dog getting loose happen, but stabbing a dog to death is no accident. After D-Bo ran out, she left the apartment calling him, thats when she heard him scream. This all happend fast, it's not like he ws loose for hours and she didnt go after him.
4. I find it VERY hard to believe that D-Bo did anything but wag his tail at this guy. This dog had been groomed by myself or my co-workers about 9 or 10 times, never once growled, snarled, showed teeth, or even looked at me funny. If a dog can pleasant while under stress like being groomed, theres no way he tried to bite anyone while just walking in a yard. He just came in earlier this month for a groom, and the onwer just moved like a week ago, and we only have her old address. I called her veterinarian to see if they would give us her new address to send a card, but they cant give out that information. Should we just send it to the vet and have them send it to her?
5. sorry, I didnt realize this was allready posted in the News Section.
6. My co-workers and I are going to send a card to the owner, and also let her know that if she needs anything, like testimonials on the temperament of the dog, we will be there to make sure this guy pays for his awful crime.
7. I groomed this dog, he'd been coming to my work since he was like 5-6 months. Im so upset right now, for the dog, for the owner. He was such a great dog. Im gonna miss him. :( :( :( http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2005/06/25/neighbor_is_charged_in_killing_of_pit_bull/
8. Sydney is on Canidae all life stages. She also gets a few things added in with it. Every day I add in 1 1/2 table spoons of In-Flight Coat Formula, and a 1000mg of fish oil to each meal. Every other day or so she gets some baby carrots, sweet potatoes, green beans, and plain yogurt. I also give her a whole raw egg 1-2 times a week.
9. Sydney's nicknames: Syd, dummy, Spottie McSpotterson, Babe, Girlfriend
10. there's Dogs in Review, allthough it's mostly filled with advertisments of show dogs, but there are sometimes some good articles in there. http://www.dogsinreview.com/dogsinreview/
11. After I come home from work and my feet are nice and stinky, Sydney likes to lick them :o Gross, I know, but it's still funny
12. Sydney dreams a lot too, her feet will twitch and she growls and whimpers, its quite funny  I always wonder what she's dreaming about, probably about getting revenge on our crazy kitten, Atticus
13. Thanks, I found a few clubs in my area that I'm going to look into. I'll also check out those books :D
14. the long haired Basset that comes to my work has more coat than that one, she has long, thick feathering.
15. I would hope not, because you have the dog's safety and well-being in mind and a priority
16. That's great that they really listend to you :klacz: The other day at work, I saw this lady come in the store with like 4 kids, ages ranging between like 1-8 years old, and what kind of puppy did they just get? An Australian Cattle Dog!!!! :o I'm pretty sure that pup will end up in the shelter by the time it's 7 or 8 months
17. Well, I've been working more with Sydney since the weather is finally getting decent, and I'm very impressed with how well she's doing with heeling and everything, so I've decided that I want to get into Novice obedience with her and try and get a CD title on her. Can anyone reccomend any books/articles/magazines to help me get Sydney ready to compete in the ring? Thanks.
18.
most of the standards are rediculous. like white GSD's arent real GSD's..long haired GSD's arent real GSD's....certain colored danes arent real danes....an am staff can only have so much white, etc. etc. it's all pretty rediculous really.
Well, I agree with white GSD's being a major fault/disqualitfication, the reasoning behind it is that the GSD herds sheep, most sheep are white, and it would be hard to point out where your all white dog is when he's out and about with the sheep, especially if the the shepherd(person) is far away and giving the commands. I know that's the AKC's reasoning behind it as well.
19.
Those are beautiful dogs (including Kira of course)... Long hair in a basset hound is a big fault, the closest to that is the grand basset griffon vendeen, but we're talking from a different breed :P
I wish I had a pic, but at my work we have a long haired Basset that comes in for grooming! I'm pretty sure it's purebred, it has all the characteristics/features of a Basset, except she has long hair, similar to a Golden, with the feathering and such. I bet if we shaved her she'd look like a normal Basset!
20. long coated Dals! http://www.geocities.com/paisleydals/color.html
21. haha  Usually Sydney and the kitten Atticus are getting into things together! Teamwork!
22. holy cow :o she's got a lot of allergies! And human dander? I know people can be allergic to dog dander, but I never knew it could be the other way around!
23. I remember some customers came into my work with a Cavalier puppy they bought from the pet store  And they claimed this dog was top notch show quality because it was AKC registered and they paid over $1,000 for it
