1. In the woods behind my place there are deer, but I've never seen one, I just see the tracks they leave behind. But I've seen TONS of wild turkey. They're defenetly not shy, they walk around the parking lot and peep in the 1st floor apartment's windows!
2.
Great looking Dals!I love the show names too...Sir Tuckaway winged foot made me giggle
 Yeah, I like the name Lord Jim lol
3. Well, I got Sydney's 5 generation pedigree from AKC.org, and it's been very interesting to fing all the dogs she's related to. here's her pedigree: http://www.geocities.com/cash_car_star33/view.pl.html and here's some of her relatives: Sire Ch. Tuckaway Winged Foot Great Great Grand Dam, Sire's Side Grand Sire, Sire's Side Great, Great, Great, Great Grand Sire, Sire's Side Ch. 4. holy cow :o when there's a will, there's a way, i guess
5. sneaky little beasts, aren't they?
6. Well, I suppose it was my fault. Syd and I came back from a nice 2 hour hike in the state forest, and I went into the kitchen to make myself a sandwich. Mistake #1- I didn't put the bread back on the shelf. Mistake #2- I left the gate to the kitchen open. I went to my parents down the street for an hour our so, and I came back to find Sydney had eaten the whole loaf of bread! :o  I'm sure she enjoyed it, but now I can't make any sandwiches!
7. we groomers do appreciate tips! Somedays, I'll get a lot of tips, and then I go a few days without getting any. Certain repeat customers of mine tip me all the time, though. Beau the Pit Bull that comes in every Wednesday, they give me usually $4, sometimes though, like around Christmas, they'll give me $20 :D I also have a Samoyed, Brady, that comes in once a month, and his owners tip me $20 every time. :D
8.
you can't compare apples and oranges - i'm referring to healthy animals here. :)
not sure what you mean by that... :niewiem: are you saying that all Shar-Peis and Dalmatians are unhealthy?
9. her coat is probably just adjusting to the temperature change. Get yourself a rubber curry brush and give her a good brushout. The more hair you brush out, the less hair in the house :D
10.
there isn't really any such thing as "too much protein". a dog is a carnivorous animal with a digestive tract designed for primarily utilizing protein and fat.
There is for Dalmatians. Too much protein in a Dalmatian's diet is trouble. Dals are highly prone to form urinary stones from purine-yeilding foods. The amount and the type of protein they get needs to monitored closely.
11. try reading around the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of America site, it should give you plenty of info: http://www.bmdca.org/
12. theres a customer at the grooming shop that I work at, he has 2. Moose and Bear. They are very friendly, goofy dogs. But they are hairy and shed like there's no tomorrow!
13. My dog has more collars than I do pairs of jeans :o
14. You should use ear powder specifically made for aiding in pulling out the hair. Something similar to this: http://www.petedge.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=1316&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=12&iSubCat=133&iSubSubCat=135&iProductID=1316
15. Sydney only sleeps on the bed with me once in a while, and If I am going to let her on the bed, I make her sit and wait, then I get on the bed and get comfortable, then I say "OK" and let her on the bed. I just don't want her thinking it's her bed and that she can just jump on any time she wants :D
16.
why jerk around a dog anyway? they are smart and can be taught without yanking and pulling.
I just wanted to add that I never said to jerk, yank or pull any dog.
17. hate to say it, but i think the dog should be put down, too. He just sounds too dangerous.
18.

use a training collar (choke, pinch, etc) high on the dog's neck, right behind the ear's, like a show dog :D With most dogs, you'll find you'll have better control with the collar up high on the neck.
i'd be very careful giving such "advice" to someone who has never been instructed by someone who knows what they are doing when it comes to choke and pinch collars. it's easy to do a lot of damage that way, especially if someone is using a pinch (prong) collar, which should absolutely never be put up "high on the neck behind the ears". that area is not well protected at all and the larynx can get damaged. why jerk around a dog anyway? they are smart and can be taught without yanking and pulling. if the original poster has a desire to properly train the dog, not just to walk nicely on a leash without pulling, buy a good book on clicker training and a clicker. it's great.
I'm sorry, I thought she allready knew the basics, and how to use training collars, since she said that the dog has allready learned the basics and knows how to heal. I assumed she was just looking for extra tips. I've walked many large dogs on leads, and I always put the collar up high on the dogs neck. There's no need to jerk on the collar, because most dogs won't even pull when the collar is that high, including my dog. I walk my dog on a nylon choke, just because she can't slip out of it, like she may with a normal buckle collar. If I put the nylon choke in the middle of or at the base of the neck, she will pull. Now, when I put the nylon choke up high on her neck, she doesn't even attempt to pull, she'll walk foward and feel the pressure, and she automatically eases up. just giving ideas/advice from my own experience and what has worked for me.
19. use a training collar (choke, pinch, etc) high on the dog's neck, right behind the ear's, like a show dog :D With most dogs, you'll find you'll have better control with the collar up high on the neck.
20. There is a grooming customer of mine, and her dog is clearly a Pit, but she is so adiment that its an American Bulldog. People are weird.
21.
The dogs came from a mal breeder, but I don't know if she had papers for them or not.
If she didn't keep the papers, couldn't she go to the breeder for help? Or if they where registered with the AKC, she could get they're registration/pedigree on their website? The article didn't really say much about how she was defending that they were Malamutes :niewiem:
22. that sounds all to familiar to me  We have customers call up just a few days before X-mas, expecting to get in the day they call. This is usually how a phone conversation goes with a pain in the a** customer: "I want to bring my dog in today" "Sorry, we're all booked today" "What do you mean you're all booked? No room at all?" "Nope, sorry" "You're kidding, right? You're telling me you don't have anything?" "That's right" "This is ridiculous! Im gonna call some place else!" "Ok, bye!"
23.
this is where I am thinking about going. any thoughts on this school? http://www.academyofdoggrooming.com
not sure if it really matters to whether or not you should go to the school, but... I just looked on the pics page, one thing that bothered me is that they have cats on a neck noose on the tables. At my work, we use a lead to make a harness that goes around the chest and under the stomach, much safer for a cat.
