1. To be fair I haven't seen Who Gets the Dog but I have seen the promo a few times, my problem with it is (just like usually with their Adoption Story) it gives the impression that, for every dog needing a home there are all these people who want him. I'd like to see a real shelter drama as in Who Gets a Home.
2. Wow he is so expressive and obviously loves being with you! Congratulations!
3.

It should be put down. My experience with that type of dog is....if they do it once they will do it again. My sister had one, my neighbors have one that attacked a customer and other dogs. It wasnt once either. It seems to be a changing world, at least around here. Its like the dogs have more rights than humans do. They get too many chances. They should NEVER get a second chance.
Why shouldnt they get a second chance? Is it the dogs fault that whoever owned him/her didnt train and raise him properly? Is it the dogs fault that maybe he has a high prey drive and needs a serious handler and a job to do? No. and in the correct hands this dog can probably be rehabilitated and trained right and never bite someone again. if the dog is with a good trainer, the trainer will know if the dog can be rehabilitated or not.
Yes, well said ... I actually have SUCH mixed feelings about it. Of course they should get a second chance but this one it's like ... a third? fourth? And it really is never the dog's fault, but a human created danger is still a danger.
4. Well BBC, I know you'll get challenged for saying that but I pretty much agree.
5. Glad to hear it. Like a lot of people I think, saw this post and felt bad but had no knowledge or advice to offer.
6. Thanks everyone. I'm checking on him pretty regularly, he's still there in holding but when he gets put up for adoption I'll post the petfinder link. I plan on trying to talk my neighbor into adopting him. That night the dog played so well with his yellow lab (a female) ... CDG I'm glad your mom called on your neighbor. Hope they can do something about it, best case jolt the owners into caring for their dog (wouldn't hold my breath though).
7. He is adorable!
8. Oh NO! There was Boonie, Gem, Tabatha, and now this ... I am so sorry BaileysMom ...
9. I am so glad to hear he may have a chance at a good life and especially glad to hear that he will be out of the house.
10. Absolutely stunning.
11. Sending many pawsative thoughts.
12. My first response is have him put to sleep asap. It sounds like it's too late ... if you wait around for the right training or to find someone qualified to take this dog on then you may have a long wait and the dog could hurt someone or worse by then. And this is going to sound really harsh but the parents in this case are guilty of child endangerment to have him around. IMO. C'mon you guys, do we care more about the lives of dogs or children?! (OK maybe some of you shouldn't answer that  )
13. So sorry ... it's over now and she's in peace.
14. In Wisconsin in January I think it's too cold for any dog to be left outside for a long time. I have heard that chaining a dog can make it violent, but have not heard that about a fenced in dog. I do believe, if a dog is in a fenced yard most of the time (and that is weather permitting with adequate shelter) then it should have a companion. It sounds like this one is being sorely neglected. That is so sad.
15.
one thing i really like is that the calcium content is high enough so that people can include a good amount of fresh foods (meats, eggs, cottage cheese, veggies etc.) without having to worry about supplementing extra calcium. if you feed for example one cup of evo per day and add 7oz of boneless raw meat and 3.5 oz of coked broccoli, you aren't even making a dent in the calcium reserve. hopefully this will make people more comfortable to add at least some unprocessed food to the diet.
I might like to try this, mixing fresh with Evo instead of Innova/Evo. Can you tell me what vegies, and should all veggies be cooked and all meat be raw? What are meat choices? Can I just stick with one meat (stew beef, for example?) ... do you really feed raw poultry and pork ... from a human standpoint this feels scary ... sorry about all the questions! Refer me to a link or book if you want, I just don't know where to start.
16. :( How tragic, I'm so sorry.
17. Actually Evo is pretty exciting! after a month Buddy still goes after it as if it were canned food. Although (see previous post) I am again mixing in some regular green bag Innova, now about 1/2 and 1/2 ... it seems we have dialed in the perfect combination for Buddy now.
18. Thanks, those were part of my thoughts too. Also when I got him to the pound they said he was intact, so he could have potentially been making unwanted puppies if left to roam. Still I feel awful somehow.
19. Oh she's beautiful! (Adorable little boy, too!)
20. Oh no, I am so sorry and keeping paws crossed for Tabatha's return to good health.
21. Out walking the other evening a dog started following us, he was dragging about 6 feet of chain link behind him, no tag just chain link around his neck too, skinny, friendly but he was scaring Buddy so at first I chased him away. On the way back find same dog surrounded by a small group of teenagers, he is trying to follow them home too (one had a dog), no one knew what to do, it was dark by then. Finally I enlisted a couple of the teens to help me get the dog home and into my yard where he stayed the night (it was unseasonably warm, above 40.) At 7 am and again at 9 I canvassed the neighborhood where he was found, asking anyone I saw if they knew him, no luck. Also called the papers to see if anyone had reported a missing dog, finally checked the Humane Society and then the pound, no luck. HS wouldn't take him (though I would have paid the $30 relinquishment fee) and I ended up taking him to the pound. There was no way I could have kept him any longer. Did I do the right thing or not? Part of me thinks I should have just unhooked the chain he was dragging and let him remain loose when I found him (between me and the teens we would have had to chase him away to prevent following across heavy traffic); thinking that maybe he could have found his way home but now because of me he may be PTS.
22. Oh no ... Good for you for doing the courageous thing and letting his passing be peaceful.
23. Great news! Best wishes to you and Boonie through treatment ... I know it can be scary / risky but I think it'll be fine and he'll be better than ever soon.
24. I find the contract for one puppy thing to be a bit disturbing. What if this puppy had ended up with a medical problem or poor conformation? Does the contract specify who the stud is to be? I just think it's weird.
25. Oh just look at that smile. Hey I know there are alot of you Illinoisans out there
