  1. Has anyone had a dog that has dry eyes? I need to know what they look like because I suspect Jesse may have that condition. He sometimes has gunk collected on his eye, like gooey tears. I doesn't seem to bother him but I'm worried. I looked up "dry eyes" and it seems it is common in Westies but I'm not positive that's what this is. It only seems to occur when he has a piece of hair in his eye. It is only his right eye. Does anyone have a picture of what dry eyes look like? Or info, first-hand experience? Thanks.
  2. You could try this, I'm just going to start teaching Jesse: I say "Hands against the wall" or "Put'em up"! Like I'm a cop and Jesse puts his paws up on the wall. Very simple right now but I want him to hold it then pretend to frisk him, it'll be fun, he learns so fast. :D I've also taught him to close the door on command so we go around the house shutting doors for fun, he just pushes them shut with his paws. :) I taught him to pull a rope attached to my door knob to open the door too. There's no limit to what you can teach a dog if you are both willing and to us it's a lot of fun! :D I love training dogs.
  3. Our dog, Beta, has mild HD. She was diagnosed when she was three. She used to do bad in the winter to the point where she couldn't scratch herself and we were considering putting her down. We changed her dog food to high quality dog food with glucosamine and chondroitin and she totally changed, up and running, scratching, a whole new dog! Her's is only mild though. What are your parents feeding him, Beta was getting very low quality food before that so we noticed a huge difference. Dogs with HD that are overweight put alot of strain on their hips, losing some weight would help as well.
  4. Wow! That is an awesome drawing! I draw too but I don't think my pictures are that good, shading isn't my strong point. Do you have any other drawings? :D
  5. What an adorable puppy! I hope you find him a home! :D
  6. Beta won't growl but she doesn't like having to give it up. Jesse is very good with 'drop it'. He even drops chicken bones on command. I can tell him to drop a bone halfway across the yard and he does. :D Just had to brag on my pup...
  7. Good news! The guy that was planning on breeding his male Border Collie read the info I gave him and decided not to breed after all and to get him neutered instead. :D
  8. Awww, poor doggy. :( Good thing he ended up in your yard!
  9. I was at the pet store today with Jesse just visiting with the staff, they love Jesse! Then in walks this HUGE Rottweiler! He was very friendly and Jesse and him exchanged polite sniffs. The owners said he weighed 182 lbs.! He did some tricks and got some treats but Jesse was too interested in other things to care about eating so he missed out. :) I've never seen a vicious or even slightly mean Rottweiler in my life. The one's I've met were always very friendly. I've met some pretty vicious Chihuahua's though! I also saw a Norwegian Elkhound today, a Westie(not Jesse of course :) ), and numerous mixed breeds. At the Humane Society about 5 dogs are tagged for potential adoption! :D Even one of the dogs that's been there for almost 2 years may be finally getting a home!!!
  10. Whoa! I had no idea BC's come in so many different colors! :o Guess ya learn something new all the time! Thanks for the links to the pages, it will all bevery helpful. :)
  11. Thanks for that link, I'd seen it before but didn't remember what it was called, I'm definately using it. I'm getting a booklet together to give him. Courtnek, I can't seem to find your Christmas Poem, do you remember where it is? I'm also using the story about "Sam". Thank you for all your replies. Are there any more pictures I can use?
  12. A friend of mine owns a male Border Collie and have mentioned wanting him to mate with the neighbors mixed breed dog. I asked why and he said they hope it might calm him down and they want one of the pups. I had a very good talk with him about overpopulation and that the most common dog at our Humane Society is a Border Collie X. I also mentioned genetics, this dog's sister has a genetic problem and has to take daily medication and I mentioned it could be passed to the pups. I'm going to have to talk with his Dad, though, to really change their mind. I'd appreciate any statistics and info on overpopulation and anything that I could show them to discourage them. Thanks! :D Oh, and can a Border Collie be a different color other than black & white? Like can they be brown and white? Just curious... :)
  13. Dog shows not included? Outside of dog shows the rarest around here is the APBT I've only seen about 3 in all.
  14. Oops, that was me. :-?
  15. Some of you may remember me talking about my Gramma and her Shih Tzu pup. Anyway, we went to her place on Sunday and she said she'd given the pup away because she didn't like her. She was too hyper, didn't listen, etc. Gramma went on to say 'I gave her to a friend who is going to breed her and give mea male pup. Oh, and she's only 9 months and she's had her first heat!' I was so mad!!! I tried to tell her the pup would be just as hyper as the mother and she shouldn't be bred until she's two but she wouldn't listen! I really hope that lady isn't planning on breeding her right now, she's still a pup herself!!
  16. Poor, poor kittens!! How anyone could do something like that is beyond me. I hope they get what they deserve.
  17. 1 Shepherd/Rottweiler/Lab cross female named Beta 1 West Highland Terrier male named Jesse. :D
  18. Give me a break! That's just stupid. :x
  19. Poor puppy. I hope whoever did that gets punished with his own crime!!!
  20. It was probably by artificial insemination(AI). :)
  21. Neither of mine are licensed, it's not really required where I am. They both are tatooed though and Jesse is micro-chipped. Here the licencing fee is $10 for unaltered dogs and $5 for altered.
  22. Jesse follows me everywhere, Mom calls him my little white shadow. When I come out of the bathroom he's waiting at the door, when he was a pup he kept trying to come in the shower with me. I like it that he follows me everywhere, it's really sweet.
  23. I'm thinking of putting Jesse in flyball agility classes and was wondering if there are any certain questions I should ask before I join the class? I've never done this before so I don't really know. :)

    Pet Abortion

I don't think aborting puppies or kittens is wrong but it's a whole different thing with humans. I don't approve of human abortion either, I'm strongly against it.
