1. Hide and seek is fun to play with your dog. Have somebody hold the dog and you run and hide then he finds you. This is really fun outside, Beta is really good at this. We try to hide in really hard places but there's no fooling her nose! If the dog is really good at finding go in loops and circles to try and throw him off.
2. So sorry HF, poor little Devin.  I cried for days when Beta was diagnosed with mild hip dysplasia at three years old. I know how you feel. I'm so sorry.
3. Both our dogs like eating the cat food. I think they just eat it because it belongs to the cat, but maybe not. Jesse and Beta eat the same dog food but Jesse would rather eat out of Beta's dish than his own.
4. I was wondering, you know people have Popcorn parties, Mary Kay product parties, Home Interior parties, Tupperware parties, to name a few, where they go to people's homes and host a party to sell the product. Well, is there such a thing as a 'party' where you can sell dog stuff? I think that would be a lot of fun! Selling cute little doggie dishes, booties, coats, and even recently, dog umbrellas! I, personally, would spend money at one of those, since pets is the only thing I spend my money on. I just wondered if they existed.
5. Beautiful story, so sad you had to lose her though. The pictures are gorgeous, I love her floppy ears! I can't imagine what I would do if Jesse got run over. He doesn't seem to realize a car will kill him, he doesn't get out of the way very fast. :-? I worry that he'll be run over, sometimes. Jesse is the absolute best dog I've ever had! He follows me everywhere. Sleeps with me, lays at my feet, follows me from room to room. Last week I went to town and Jesse sat on the back of the couch looking out the window as I left. When I got back 3 and a half hours later the other kids said Jesse had sat on the couch the whole time looking out the window until I got back! He is so faithful and loving, my precious baby.
6. It could be anxiety. Do Pits normally shed alot, I know Pugs are notorious shedders. Are there bald spots from his shedding so much? It could be his diet, was there a food change? What type of food is she feeding him? Natural Choice dog food is gauranteed, sp?, to improve skin and coat. Hope she figures out why. :)
7. What a cutie! :iloveyou: Could maybe be a mix of GSD, Elkhound, or Husky.
8. Here is a suggestion: Have some yummy treats in one hand and show them to your dog. Run the brush over him and if he doesn't snap or bite praise him and give him a treat. Gradually increase the amount of brushing before you give him a treat, and sound happy while you brush him. He may have been brushed harshly in his previous home and is afraid of it. Let him know there's nothing to be scared of. Lots of positive reinforcement! My westie also had this problem, he used to bite me and the brush whenever I tried to brush him. He didn't like the brush, it was a slicker brush. He still doesn't really like the slicker so I use a different brush. Are you using a slicker brush? Maybe that is the problem. Good luck with your dog!
9. Beta will hold the treat on her nose as well as her paws! Both our dogs know 'leave it' as well as 'drop it'. Beta's hackles go up if you chase her around when she has a toy, just from excitement though. That is probably why your dog's hackles went up.
10. I've heard this before. The cat diary always makes me laugh!
11. Yeah, sure, as if I could train my Pomeranian-mix puppy to become an attack dog. Actually, I know a very vicious Pom cross dog. He doesn't even weigh 5 lbs. and it's a good thing! I've been bitten by him more than once. I voted no. We aren't winning by much, though.

12. Jesse just entered adolescence. He's being extremely stubborn. I told him 'down' this morning and he looks at me like 'do I know this word?' Same with 'sit' he just stands there staring at me with a blank look. He does it easier if there's a treat involved, if there's not that's a different story. Its a little bit funny, I told him 'down' and he started to lie down but suddenly remembered and sat right back up! His terrier stubborness is really starting to show now!
13. Jesse is a Westie, he has no hip problems as far as I know. Both his parents were x-rayed for it and didn't have it either. Beta only lifts her leg on walks, but she does have hip dysplasia. It's only mild right now so lifting her leg doesn't bother her.
14. Yes, I'm glad he doesn't too, but I'm like a mother wanting him to grow up! He still squats like a puppy! :-?
15. I've got a question: Jesse is a little over a year old, he was neutered at six months. I've never seen him cock his leg like a male usually does. I was just wondering why. I don't mind that he doesn't I just find it a little strange. He's hardly ever around other male dogs but I've read that this doesn't matter, it is instinct, and not seeing other males do it doesn't matter. Is it because he's not physically mature yet? Or underconfident? Our female does cock her leg though, she's very confident.
16. Sounds like you have your hands full. :D My dog, Jesse, used to hate his crate. He would howl and whine whenever he was in it. I just kept giving him treats when I would first put him in and now when he knows we are going somewhere and sees me getting his treats he waits in front of the kennel door@! Just be consistent. Also, tire him out before you leave, give him a long run or something. A tired dog will usually just sleep the time away. :) Good luck with your pooch! :D
17. Do they breed all of those dogs themselves?! Puppymill? That is very sad, most of the pups don't even look happy, especially the poor Labradoodle. Sounds like they are breeding the dogs constantly. Do they show pictures of the kennels?
18. Jesse is my 'baby'. He is a West Highland Terrier, he just turned one in November and acts very grown up, (most of the time). Beta is the family dog, she is a Lab/Rottie/Shepherd cross. She is a sweetie, she adores little kids! She has the markings of a Rottie but has more of a lab/shepherd body. She just turned 5 in August, but she has hip dysplasia.
19. That's so funny!  Dogs have such character!
20. A friend of mine is looking for a pug puppy, does anyone know of anyone around Manitoba who breeds them? I can't seem to find any. :-? Pugs are his favorite, they are so cute :o <-- just like that!
21. Thank you for all your advice. :D Mom bought her some Friskies cat food,(I would like her to have something better than that but I don't have a job right now so this will have to do for now), she ate everything Mom put in her dish and hasn't thrown up so that's good. It was the food making the dog throw up too because the cat never ate it all and the dog would eat what she left, making her sick too. Is Profile a good brand of cat food? No pet store in Brandon sells Solid Gold but they have it at Winnipeg which is two hours away, too bad, I read a pamphlet about the food and it sounds great!
22. I was looking for cat food and I want to know which kind is the best. I've heard that ground corn is not good for dogs and isn't put in Natural Choice brands but it is put in Natural Choice cat food. Is it okay for cats? Any advice would be appreciated. :)
23. She has no hairballs in her puke, but she seems only to throw up after she's eaten. I'm beginning to think it could be her food, she's eating some type of No Name trash. I'm going to see if I can get her some good food.

Akita Mania!

An Akita is a breed of dog I would love to own! They are awesome looking dogs. 8) A neighbor of my friends owns an Akita name Tika, he is a very dignified elderly dog, he's at least 10 years old! Years ago he attacked one of the neighbors kids, though. Totally the kids fault, here's the story. The boy was 13 or 14 years old at the time, not a young kid. Tika was a very well-behaved dog, he even let my friends, who were only toddlers at the time, play with and hang on him. Well, this boy teased the dog when his owner wasn't home.(The dog was a trained guard dog before) his owner left him in the front yard leashed up while he wasn't home and the boy taunted him just out of his reach. He was told over and over again to leave the dog alone, by neighbors, by his parents but he kept right at it until one day he came within the dogs reach. The dog attacked him and was mauling him and his mother came running out and tried to rescue her son and she got bit! The dog backed off I guess and an ambulance was called for the boy. He had to get a lot of stitched but was otherwise fine, (maybe now he'll listen when he's told). They went to court to try to get the dog destroyed but his owner fought it, (He isn't married and Tika means a lot to him), the neighbors fought it saying the dog was perfect with their little kids and that the boy had been teasing the dog. He won and got to keep Tika! :D But now he takes Tika everywhere with him, he's never home alone anymore, and when I go over there Tika is an awesome well-behaved dog!
25. Jesse is so hilarious! Today when I let him in the house, he was so excited about a new toy I was showing him, he charged in the door and jumped up on his hind legs but his feet were slippery from the snow and he slipped right over backwards and landed on his back! Then he just pops right back up wagging his tail, wondering why he's suddenly the center of attention and laughter! He's such a clutz I can't help laughing! When he was a pup he was walking on a pile of laundry in my room and started to go down the side, but it got to steep for little him and he ended up doing a pawstand on his front legs and couldn't stop! I went to help him while laughing but he managed to stop. I could hardly tell my Dad why I was laughing so hard! I just taught him how to sit on his hind legs when I say "Pretty". I got him to hold it for a few seconds and he toppled over backwards, such a clown! I'd be bored without a dog.
