I found the best squeaky toy for my girls!
JackieMaya replied to JackieMaya's topic in Everything about dogs
Maya weighs about 72 pounds and Jackie weighs about 85 pounds, and they both pull as hard as they can, so if they can't rip it apart, I'll bet your kids can't either! Here's the Petsmart link for the squirrel. It's one of the "Forest Furry Friends" collection. http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441780109&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302026216&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023689&bmUID=1108713368199 -
Jackie is good with the squeaky toys, but Maya likes to play tug-of-war with them. If Jackie has something, Maya will take it from her and go right back to Jackie and say "hey, let's play with this"! LOL Anyway, Petsmart has squeaky squirrels that I got for the girls, and they are the most durable squeaky toys I've ever bought! I just bought one at first, but they both like them so much that I bought two more. I can't believe they haven't pulled the tail off the squirrel yet when they play tug-of-war. The squirrel has a velcro tummy that the squeaker is in. So you can take it out if you want. And if one squeaker dies, you get like 5 extra squeakers just in case. And it doesn't have the usual cottony stuffing in it except in the tail (which I took out as soon as they opened up the tail). Here are two pictures of Jackie with the squeaky squirrel in her mouth. It's a GREAT toy! I voted! Travis is a close No. 2 now. And I sent in Jackie's picture. So I'll let you know if she gets in a contest and y'all can vote for her!

I didn't read the whole thread, but personally, I think all dogs should be left natural, the way they were born (besides neutering and spaying, of course). I love to see dogs who normally would have cropped ears and/or tail with natural ones. It adds more character to them! I think docking ears and tails is a barbaric practice.

When Jackie barks, she actually says "woof." And Jackie likes to talk when she has toys and things in her mouth. Then it sounds like she's mumbling because she can't form the letter "f" with something in her mouth. LOL Maya just says "woo." And after Maya barks, she always adds growlies afterwards. And when Maya hears something, she'll trot off to see what it is, and every step, you hear "rrr, rrr, rrr, rrr." LOL Jackie's bark is much lower than Maya's. Jackie sounds like a giant dog, and Maya sounds like a Golden-size dog. And they both talk in their sleep. Jackie does a bunch of yelps, and Maya growls (and snores) in her sleep.

If I won the lottery and didn't have to work any more, I would have a senior dog retirement home.

LOL! That sounds like Hooch (from "Turner and Hooch") going through everything in the kitchen when Tom Hanks goes out of the house. He was opening up beer cans with his teeth.

One of my dogs, Maya, is a Golden Retriever/Husky mix, so that'll be close to the puppies you're looking at. She has the friendly goofy Golden personality. She's 4 years old and she'll always be a goofy puppy! I adopted her when she was 1-1/2 years old, six months after I adopted my other dog, Jackie, and they fell asleep on the sofa together the first night and have been best friends ever since. Maya is a fence jumper, and if she gets over the fence she roams the neighborhood (and gets mommy-deaf). So I have her on a 35-foot cable attached to her harness when she's in the back yard. I've heard that Huskies are roamers and very vocal, and Maya is both. I put a citronella bark collar on her at night (since I don't get home from work until after midnight and don't want her barking that time of night), and that works unless one of the dogs from the other block come to visit (which happened last night). Maya is a great watchdog, but if someone actually came in, she would probably lick them to death! Other than Maya's barking and wanting to jump the fence, she is a perfect dog. She's wonderful in the house and loves everyone! If all Husky mixes are like her, I would definitely say go for it! Here are a few pictures of Maya so you can see what her mix looks like. Her ear is flipped inside out in this picture. Her ears lie down:

That same type of thing happened to me with one of my dogs when I was a teenager. I put a frozen pizza out on the counter while the oven was preheating, and went to do something. When I came back, my dog had the pizza on the floor and had finished off most of it!

Awww, poor guy. Maybe he ate something he shouldn't have? Maya got real sick after she ate some of what the messy lawn guys cleaned out of my gutters. She came through it just fine, but she was sick out both ends for a few days. Give Beaux a big hug from me!

Aren't these about the cutest puppies you've ever seen? They're Golden mixed with maybe Collie or Sheltie, 3-4 months old. They're on the Golden rescue site. Even though I can't have any more dogs, I still like to look!

Bummer! I'm at work with no t.v. I'll have to see it when they replay it later on.

He's just beautiful! You're luck to have found each other! Have fun with your new baby and post lots more pictures! -
Wow, they're very good!

Well, we got about 3 inches of snow today, so at least the ice in my backyard is covered up now. And so is the poop! LOL It's very pretty now. Jackie and Maya were making snowpuppies in the snow. They didn't like being out in the rain earlier, but they were out for a long time while it was snowing out.

Do you guys clip the long hair on the bottoms of your dogs' feet? I call them "fuzzy bedroom slippers"-LOL. I know some people do and some people don't. I leave it long this time of year because I think it helps protect the bottoms of their feet. But in the spring when it's muddy, I have them clipped. Here's what Jackie and Maya's feet look like. This is Jackie's foot:

I live in Minnesota, and even though we've had a way below normal amount of snow this year, we did have a somewhat decent snow cover for the yard. We've had a few warm-ups and then back to below freezing, so half of my yard is dead grass and the other half is ice. Jackie and Maya play and run around a lot outside, especially on the icy area. The pads on their feet (especially Maya) are red, but they're leaving them alone when they're in the house. Do any of you have problems with your dogs' pads getting red from running around on the snow/ice all the time? I don't suppose there's anything I can do about it. The temps are in the 40s and 50s for highs this weekend, so hopefully the ice will melt. Of course, then I'll have mud! :-? If it's not one thing, it's another!

I just LOVE Berners! I've never had one, but I would love to some day. Other than the hair (which doesn't bother me since I have shedders), I've heard nothing but good things about them.

I adopted Maya 6 months after I adopted Jackie. Jackie was such a momma's girl that everyone thought I was nuts to get another dog because they thought it would be hard on Jackie. But it was just the opposite! They fell asleep on the sofa together their first night and they've been best friends ever since. And they both still get their individual mommy-time. I was thinking of adopting a third dog, but that fell through. Being a single working woman with a horse boarded elsewhere, two dogs is just right for me. Since Jackie and Maya are so tight, and the fact that Maya has to be cabled when she's outside, it would be hard to introduce another dog into my little family. But if it works for you, go for it!

He's beautiful! I love hearing about another dog saved! You're a good person! Congratulations!

What kind of waggers are your dogs?
JackieMaya replied to JackieMaya's topic in Everything about dogs
Jackie, besides being able to wag her tail in every direction, is also a wiggle butt. I don't know how she can even walk when she gets her wiggle butt going! Maya isn't a wiggle butt, but she holds her tail up over her back too (must be the Husky in her) and it goes from side to side there. I call Jackie "wigglebutt" and I call Maya "fluffybutt". -
I've never seen a tail go in as many directions as Jackie's tail does! Sometimes it'll go side to side; sometimes up and down; and when she's really excited she does a whirlybird, where it goes around in circles. Maya's tail just goes from side to side.
