OTC Remedies

Well I was looking at the dog's cabinet yesterday and realized how much I have learned over the years about what to use for everyday remedies. So here is a list, and I hope it helps you!

Allergies, itchy skin, hot spots: Benadryl, 1 mg/pound (thanks, D.O.!)
Hot spots, insect bites: Gold Bond Triple Action Medicated Powder
Cuts, abrasions: Peroxide, Neosporin
Diarrhea: Immodium, one adult tablet, also instant white rice.
Chronic stomach problems: plain yogurt, 1 tsp. with each meal
Chronic urinary problems: cranberry extract supplement, 1 tablet with each meal
Pain associated with arthritis: buffered aspirin, one
Dry, dull skin/coat: olive oil, 1 tsp. with each meal

If your dog has a torn pad, soak it in some Epsom salt and warm water. Thats my addition to Pyr's great list.

Thanks for the info. some I knew, other I didn't. By the way, I'm not too sure if your in the States, but my vet had recommended Tavist for my boy's allergies and now I find out that they have discontinued it here in Canada, does Benedryl work as well?

One of my favorite things.... Tea tree oil. Put it on the cotton swab when cleaning your dogs ears. Kills earmites and pulls ticks out.
Garlic-fleas.

Yes, tea-tree is great for ears, so is straight-up rubbing alcohol, it has antimicrobial properties and is like 79 cents!

i forgot about pumpkin too, that is another good one!

For the house...baking soda is a great carpet freshener, and white vinegar is good for "accidents" because it destroys the smell for the dogs.

The Cranberry & the Ester C has dramticly elimnated the UTI problems Sassy was haveing.. Before I started that, she still had UTI's even when on the Hills SD prescription crap.. They told me her diet was causeing the problem. Bull.. I'm curentlly feeding Chicken Soup for the soul food & she's loveing it..
