Pooh Bear is home!

Recommended Posts

I brought Pooh Bear home today after his hip surgery, and the poor little guy got car sick on the way home and threw up his whole meal that he had had at the vet clinic (luckily on the floor mat). When he got home, he drank a lot of water, and I took him in the back yard and he peed for what seemed like forever!

He's been sleeping all day. Maya and Jackie were sniffing his naked butt and his bright pink stitches and wanted to visit with him, but he told them he didn't feel well. He snapped at Maya a few times when she went up to him when he was on the sofa. So I'm making sure they leave him alone for a few days. I'm sure they'll freak out when I put his e-collar on him on Monday when I have to go to work and put him in his crate!

He did eat tonight. I tried to coax him to get off the sofa to come and eat, but he didn't want to. So I put the bowl on the sofa and he gobbled it up. So it's good that he's eating and drinking. I'm taking him out to poop and potty on a leash until he gets his stitches out (about 2 weeks). He can go up and down the stairs but he three-legs it.

I feel so bad for him. He's very sleepy and wants to sleep on his left side (which is the side that was operated on), but of course he can't yet. He's whimpered a few times, but not much at all, and he's very good about taking his medication.

Here are some pictures of Pooh Bear and his cute little naked butt:

This is a picture of him sleeping on the sofa the night before his surgery. I'll be so happy when he can sleep like this again!
Woo hoo I'm glad he is home. Aww and his poor nekkid butt must be so cold. Just wondering are you letting him jump up and down from the couch with out any help?
The vet said that he can go up and down stairs and jump up and off the sofa and futon. One time he needed a little help to get on the futon, so I helped him up. But otherwise, he gets on and off the sofa just fine.

:o Pooh bear had the TPO right? I don't know the specifics of Pooh Bears operation but when Zeb had his TPO the doc said absolutly NO jumping, or stairs without help from a sling. Heck he was crated for a month! Considering how much the operations cost I'm suprised that the doc said that it was ok to let him jump around, I would think that the pressure could/would cause major problems with the healing process. Wow..I'm just really suprised that the doc wouldn't have put a jumping restriction on Pooh Bear at the very least.

No, Pooh Bear had the FHO (Femoral Head Ostectomy) where they want the dogs to start exercising right away. You're right about the TPO where they aren't supposed to do any of that.

Pooh Bear is definitely feeling better today. I took him for a walk around the back yard this morning. He was mostly three-legged, but he's starting to toe-touch now. And he was able to squat down to poop, and his poop was normal (last time he was sedated he had the runs).

He's back to taking a nap on the sofa now.

I'm so happy! Pooh Bear is improving every day! He still naps most of the day (which is fine), but he's starting to actually put weight on his left hind leg now! Every time I take him out to go potty, I walk him around the yard on his retractable leash. And he was actually stepping on his left leg tonight!

I've been doing the extension and flexions with his leg, doing a little more each day; he was swearing at me on Friday and a little bit this morning when I was doing them. But the last half of today he let me do them with no complaining! And today he's even started lying on his left side! He really wanted to yesterday but he just couldn't. And he can lie on his back now too!

And he's getting along great again with his sisters. He didn't really want anything to do with them for most of Friday. Here's a few pictures from today:

I'm NOT crazy!

:o :o :o

I know I posted to this thread last night. I was gushing about how pleased I am that Pooh is doing so well. I remember saying that animals don't see "handicaps" the same way we do and usually just work right on through them. I'm very pleased Pooh is doing so well.

Can't imagine what the heck happened to my post. Hope I didn't hit the back button before submit, or some such thing.
