Well, I've been forcing down benadryl, and rubbing her down in hydrocortisone cream, and also given her an oatmeal bath. She is not itching much. But now she does not want to come over by me, and if I call her over she puts her tail in between her legs and runs off. :( I keep reasuring her that she is a good girl and that I am only helping. :( I've been giving her lots of loves and kisses, but she just acts so timmid now. I am so upset and sad. :cry: I just made her a special meal, with sasage and rice.(since i don't have any chicken at the momment.) I just wish she knew that everything is alright and i'm just here to help. mjriggl2 Posted July 18, 2003 Posted July 18, 2003 Hi Angelboddy, don't worry about this... as long as her skin problem improved. According to a recent book I read, you need to stay cool first. It's like playing a mind game. If you chase her, she would escape farther away. If you try to ignore her, not long she will try to come to you asking for petting. Then you just give her a warm petting, not the hot-and-spicy one deep in your mind want to give :wink: Starting from there, gradually improve the intimacy with her. Ha Ha, I know it's hard to even try to "ignore" or play "cool" to your dog. Never tried or be able to try myself. But please let me know if this really works! Quote
Rosebud Posted July 18, 2003 Posted July 18, 2003 :D She'll be o.k. give her some time and make a big deal about how great she looks after you give her the treatments. This is how I got my RR's to like to take baths, I made a big deal about how pretty they were and then I would overly enthusiastically give them a cookie, I did the same thing with Sally and her "pretty panties" (now she will pick up her leg herself). It really helps them to get over the humiliation aspect and know that you are trying to help them. :angel: Quote
Angelboddy Posted July 18, 2003 Author Posted July 18, 2003 Thanks you guys! :buzi: K, yes I took her collar off. :D Yeah, I just got my pay check and cashed it! :D We can now go to the vet today. :D They told me it would be 20 dollars to check her. So we all are going to walk her up there in a bit. I also got some hambuger from my deli that I work at. They were going to throw it out. So I got about 5 pounds of it! :D And yes I did make sure it smelled alright. :wink: So I am boiling it right now for her. :D After it is done boiling we will go. :D Please wish us luck! :angel: Quote
mommacat Posted July 18, 2003 Posted July 18, 2003 Good luck!! Just keep giving her lots of gentle love (treats don't hurt, either!!) and she'll come around. My schnauzers (and my mom's, who I also groom) always acted mad for about 2 hours after a grooming, then they are fine again! Quote
