Guest Anonymous Posted June 12, 2003 Posted June 12, 2003 Can brother and sister dog have pupies? Quote
abker17 Posted June 12, 2003 Posted June 12, 2003 hmm... I don't think know. I've heard sometimes the pups can be deformed. How did this happen? It might be best to get the dog spayed now and terminate the pregnacy. Quote
spiritsmom Posted June 12, 2003 Posted June 12, 2003 Yes, they can have puppies (dogs don't know about incest like people do), but they should NOT have puppies as inbreeding this closely brings out the absolute worst genetics. Puppies produced from a breeding like this will have temperament, behavioral, and major health issues. My Keeshonds are examples of this, one of them Kyra has a horrible temperament and their parents were half-brother and sister (had the same father, but different mothers). I wouldn't wish a dog like her on anyone. NOT a good idea to allow this to happen! Quote
courtnek Posted June 13, 2003 Posted June 13, 2003 Yes they most certainly can....in fact, people brothers and sisters can have children - we just DONT.... and the above advice is sound...they should NOT breed - the genetic mishmash is awful.... Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted June 13, 2003 Posted June 13, 2003 YES BROTHER AND SISTER. MOTHER AND MALE SON ECT IT IS POSSIBLE. BEST TO SEE YOUR VET HAVE THEM FIXED. SAVE YOU FROM ALL THE WORRY Quote
Angelboddy Posted June 13, 2003 Posted June 13, 2003 Yes they can, but it is not a good idea. The pups may come out with deformities or worst still-born. I am against in-breeding. Quote
mommacat Posted June 16, 2003 Posted June 16, 2003 I agree - please make sure they don't breed. My sister-in-law just had a batch of Boston Terrier puppies from a brother and sister (she didnt' mean to, she didn't watch them closely enough). One of them was born with a cleft pallate and died after 3 days - really heartbreaking for her children. Now they should be ready to go, but she has 2 that won't eat. Don't know if that has anything to do with the breeding, but I just know she's having problems. The worst part is, she has people paying $200.00 for these pups, they are inbred and won't have papers!! When people are willing to pay that much for a pup like that - I'm afraid she'll think it is a good idea and breed them again!! :( Quote
PamelaJ Posted June 16, 2003 Posted June 16, 2003 here's an informative article on the topic... http://www.netpets.com/dogs/reference/genetics/inbreeda.html Quote
