DogPaddle Posted March 20, 2003 Posted March 20, 2003 I have really enjoyed watching Zaphod develop his personallity as he is moving out of puppyhood. I am fascinated with my dogs and love them to death so just ignore me if I bore you. Each of the dogs has such distinct personallities. Zaphod is like the archatypal dog - he is happy. He is always incredibly pleased with everything he does. "Hey look, I walked over to you when you made that noise! :D " "Hey look, I ate some food! :D " "Hey look, my tail wags! :D" He's a chewer and can be a bit dominent but he'd be walked all over by the other dogs if he wasn't. He does zoomies and chases his tail. He has loads of confidence and trust. Tyr is the nappy bipolar dog (sometimes he's a snugglebut, sometimes he wants his space.) He is either napping, napping outside, playing outside, eating, lying causually with the kong in his mouth letting Kavik or Zaphod tug madly away, drinking or mooing for snuggles, especially when any of the other dogs are getting them. He is stoically tolerant of the other dogs pranks and games and nearly as good about all the silly things people want dogs to do. He has a stubborn streak though and is determined to obey only hand commands, he can hear just fine, we checked :niewiem: . He is still stressed and paces alot, still tries to escape our tiny yard, still feels hemmed in by our small townhome though :( Kavik is extreme in most things. He is desperately snuggly, plays/works intensely (its hard to tell the difference between play and work for Kavik, all his fav games have a goal), he must be the alpha amongst the dogs and lets nothing pass even if he secretly could care less. He has a bit of cat in him in that he likes to climb and be groomed and sit there incredibly proud of how pretty he looks. He is often serious and the first to alert when there are people near the doors (near means within 10 blocks  ) when he is very concerned about something outside he will look out, look at me, pace, repeat until I go look, then he can relax some. What about your dogs, what are their dominent personality traits? Quote
gooeydog Posted March 20, 2003 Posted March 20, 2003 Goo- Always seems so serious, but when she's not in the "public eye", she's a bit of a goof. Ignores the other dogs, their silly play, and even their squabbles, but has something like a nervous breakdown if I happen to act like I'm going to play with one of them instead of her  . She likes to harrass the other dogs sometimes, but usually would rather just pretend they're not here. She's the alert one of the house, if she hears the slightest little noise, she wants to see what it is, and loves to watch "activity" when we're outside. She gets slightly disturbed when I'm late coming home, and confiscates various things of mine to hide under the bed. Annie- Go, go, go... that's all she ever does. It seems that Goo's her "idol", and she's always tagging along behind her like a little kid with their big brother (something Goo isn't always happy about). She'll do anything for a ball or tug, and is known for table surfing if anything edible is left there. When there's something she wants, she tunes everything else out, and is completely focused on her "target" . Joey- Super submissive, if I so much as look at him sideways, he rolls over and "freezes". He's never had much interest in toys, but is starting to like to play fetch. He's also a complete "mama's boy", and will run and hide if Goo tries to play with him (she knows that now, and will hop in his face barking, just to scare him  ). He sometimes gets kamakaze though, and will fly at her, barking and snapping... at which point he is removed and crated until he comes back to his senses  He likes to play with the other dogs, and zooms around in big circles when let loose. Casey- Not the smartest dog I've ever seen  , but she loves people. She likes to fetch the toy, but then looses interest halfway back and wander off to do something else. When my nephews are here, she follows them around all day, soaking up any harassment/attention they'll give her, and is often subjected to being their "sidekick" when they play army and things like that because she's the only dog who won't leave when she sees them pulling out her "costumes" . Haley- Loves people, but has absolutely no manners. She'll come flying out of the room and start tugging at your pants legs, or sleeves, because she's so excited to see you. She still doesn't understand that the cat will not back down from her, and has been swatted by him at least 5 times in the past month. She's got a lot more energy than before, but once she's tired out, she'll just flop out and snore  Quote
Luka-pop Posted March 20, 2003 Posted March 20, 2003 Luka - Scardy cat and a big chiken. His fur sticks up for everything. He gets nervous, stressed, and worried very easily. But he loves other dogs. He'll nip at them to engage them in play, but is definitely not the dominant dog. He doesn't give a $h!t that the other dogs are mounting him. He hates the car, a psychological thing. He loves food, even the weirdest things. He loves belly rubs and snuggles, but only when he feels like it. He doesn't like to sleep in a lot of commotion, but rather prefers his spece. He's intelligent, and his facial expressions say it all. He loves to run and play, and still does zoomies. Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted March 21, 2003 Posted March 21, 2003 Poppy is very independent in charge of the other two. does not like to be told to go out for a wee, she would rather ask to go Paddy does not want to be left out if I go out he want to come, very careing loves all the chilren we see in our road Gladis likes to think she is still a little puppy want the other two to look after her, she's the one who gets the toys she shares nicely with the others :) she also loves chilren Quote
bk_blue Posted March 21, 2003 Posted March 21, 2003 Blitz is just plain crazy. He will not give up on anything- the amazing one-track mind of this dog still surprises me. :D He loves people but he also loves being on his own having dog adventures without those bossy humans telling him what he can and can't do. :P When he wants to get away from everyone he will go down to his kennel and chill out. He is really good with other dogs and he is great with children. He does not like cats and if he was ever quick enough they would be lunch, same goes for possums. He is boisterous but can be very gentle. He is loyal and loving and likes to snuggle up. He is a princess with his grooming, and will spend ages licking his feet like a cat, to get the grey bits white again. If your hand gets in the way he will lick that too- one of those slimy licks that last about a minute, his tongue will just stop and QUIVER on your hand. He is very smart- too smart- and this is frustrating but also something to be proud of. Rinny- Rinny was just as bad as Blitz when he was younger but now he is old he's mellowed. He is very playful and is in love with his tennis ball, you can throw it and he'll bring it back over and over again- until he realises that you take it off him, so when he is tired of it he will just run off with the ball. He used to love to jump everywhere, he could get as high as the fence (but never got over it) and if someone was walking past they would get a big WOOF in their ears. When he was alpha he would guard the house and not let BK bark in the backyard at all at any strange noises- HE would do the barking and investigating, not the young buck. Now that he's old, not alpha, and would rather lie down than jump up at the window and whinge, he gets BK to bark for dinnertime. He is so affectionate, whenever you pat him on his head he puts his paw up on your knee, and if you pat his chest he'll jump up on you. If you are lucky you get hugged by him- he'll wrap his front legs around your shoulders and lick your ear. I am going to be very sad to see him go... but his time has almost come... Quote
imported_Debbie Posted March 21, 2003 Posted March 21, 2003 Sassy is the Queen Bee in the house, she was here first and she just acts like ,I was the first you all can be replaced but not me! She is my loyal and gentle companion.Gretchen(Lab/Rott) is very gentle , loving, doesn't care if the jacks are picking on her, is just happy to be with people, happy go lucky, having a ball to play with or a stick and she's in 7th heaven ! Maisy is the youngest, and she is the little tyrant. She has slowly taken the Alpha position away from Sassy, and she delights in picking on both of them. But yet she'll be the one who grooms the cat and plays nicely with him. She's very excitable when ever any one comes, first one to bark at a noise 10 miles away. Barks at other dogs , but when confronted, will bark while in retreat !! All in all , the 3 of them just love being wherever I am. I usually have a jack on either side and Gretchie laying on my feet. When I get up I have an entourage following me !! :D My hubby is quite often jealous of the "girls" and calls me the "Dog Lady" I love my girls to pieces ! Debbie 8) Quote
courtnek Posted March 24, 2003 Posted March 24, 2003 Freebee is the black lab mix - confident, in control, "my-way-or-the-highway" she was here first. She feels that she is the protector of all, and wants me to make sure I check out everything she barks about before she'll settle down. For some reason, the cat loves her best. Alex is the rescue - so laid back he's almost comatose. Only gets riled when strangers and the mailman come by. Pretty much loves everyone, surprising considering his previous life....great with kids no matter what (I wouldnt give Freebee that accolade) and becomes "extra gentle" if he senses that someone is afraid of him, who I let into the house. He's a yellow lab/GR mix. Quote
cairnmom Posted March 24, 2003 Posted March 24, 2003 Frodo is a Cairn Terrier and he certainly lives up to her Terrier background. He wants to be friends with everyone whether you like it or not. He loves cats and birds and every other dog he has ever met. He won't even chase cats. He just wants to play (which they always say no to :) ). He sees me as alpha but my husband is the BIG BOSS. Frodo will roll right over when my husband comes home. He sees the kids as equals which we are working on. He only listens to their commands if I am right there too. He is a good watch dog. But, if someone ever did break in, he would just lick them to death. He only barks if someone is actually at the door which is nice. He is growing up to be a nicely rounded dog. Gentle with kids and all-round happy :) Quote
