yellowlabsrule Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 Does he think they're rabbits or something? Quote
Poofy Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 People who breed these crosses and fill folks with mis-information, are just taking advantage of the public. People who buy them, usually have more money, then common sense. Ah well.. Quote

Horsefeathers! Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 Alicat!! I'm sooooooo glad to run into another Standard Poodle fan. Holy balls, sometimes I feel like such a misfit around here (you guys is a'ight n' stuff, but you know... none of ya's is Poodle fans). I have eight dogs total, but have only recently evolved into a Standard Poodle person. I had been waiting for about a year to find the perfect one to adopt and I just got him about 4 months ago from a Poodle rescue group. I adore all of my dogs and wouldn't take anything in the world for them, but I have to say that as far as breeds go, THIS IS IT!! I will always always always try to have a Standard from now on. If I'd only known how much fun they were... fun, intelligent and that bounce is amazing. I love to watch him move! I have a Toy, too, and she's pretty cool. She kind of has that Standard temperament, so she's a'ight. By the way, my Perry is white, too! I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your Standard. That has to be tough. I'm just so glad I'm not such a loner, anymore. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 HF, I've always adored the Standard. I wouldn't want a smaller one (toy, min, and the oh so cute tea cup...yes they are cute but I was joking). Standards are just so...so....very interesting. BUT, I don't like the foo foo cut. Just a plain short cut will do for me. Quote
yellowlabsrule Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 My mom wants one, but she said her's is going to have a puppycut. Quote
yellowlabsrule Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 Something like this: Quote
Hobbit Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 I would say that when we get really, really, old --- that we would consider a Standard Poodle as a house dog......but, and that's a big BUTT ..... someone.... .... would accuse me of being a BUTT KISSER ----- so I won't say that. :-? Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 Yellow, I couldn't see the post but I went to the website and yup, that's the cut. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 Oh Hobbit, you can rest assured I wont call you a butt kisser. Am I kissing butt now?? Quote
alicat613 Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 Thanks Horsefeathers! They are an amazing breed. Both of mine have always had a modified puppy cut after 1 year. Pretty much the same only a lot shorter everywhere except ears, head and tail. My Holly had a "boyfriend" named Sid who lived down the street. A black male with a similar cut although they also grew a "mustache" on his muzzle. You can find the look in some poodle books. I always thought it looked funny in the pictures, but Sid carried it well! Someday I may again have a beautiful Poodle, just not yet. It's still hard seeing them. My Holly was a very special girl. Guest Anonymous Posted January 11, 2003 Posted January 11, 2003 I would love to have a standard poodle, I've always loved them. But, you don't find them much around here. Please let me know if ya'll know of any up for adoption. They are so smart, beautiful, and all around excellent dogs. :) Quote
mcobbin Posted January 11, 2003 Posted January 11, 2003 HF: my very first dog that was ALL my own was a poodle. he was a black poodled named princey. i've mentioned him before on here. he was great. we TRIED to cut his hair, but it embarrassed him, and he'd hide under the couch and growl at anyone who got near the seat for several days...guess he didn't like looking naked  but he spent nearly 10 years with us before he died in a car accident. at least it was instantaneous. but i understand how people mistakenly consider these frou-frou dogs! Princey would go running into the woods and come back with cockleburs and beggar lice (sticky plant seed) all stuck to his new dreadlocks!! and when in doubt, my dad would put his high-dollar plott hounds in the kennel and take Princey to find lost game and once even a PERSON!! he was wonderful, and after we lost him it was 5 years before my family could even THINK of getting that close to another dog. so, rest assured, i may have my GSD and my pit mix, but poodles will always have a place with me too! Guest Anonymous Posted January 11, 2003 Posted January 11, 2003 :agrue: :agrue: referring to poodle mixes, i read the other day on a breed site that a poodle was in the top ten highest intellegent dog catagory. I have peke's and they were among the least intellegent listed. I can't see that. I have owned poodles nad they are very smart little dogs. My peke's (all four of them jokers!) are smart as the devil! They know how to work you like kids do. I would say they are just like humans most of the time. Pekeapoo's and some poodle mixes are adorable. The looks aren't something i'd worry about, but mixing the personalities. All dogs should be happy! Don't need any bi-polar ones! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted January 11, 2003 Posted January 11, 2003 I saw a standard yesterday on my way home from work with a puppy cut. It was either brown or cafe-au-lait. Very nice looking, at least what I saw when I was driving by. Quote
yellowlabsrule Posted January 11, 2003 Posted January 11, 2003 I love the black. I like the white to, but I could never keep it that way! Quote
Horsefeathers! Posted January 12, 2003 Posted January 12, 2003 I am seriously laughing at all the closet Poodle fans here! This is too cool! I really never used to think I like the frilly foo foo clips, but the more I learned that the continental trim actually had a function in the original working dogs, the more I really like it. Of course, it's a seriously exaggerated trim now, but this is what I am going to eventually go for with Perry. I did try growing this in once on my Toy Poodle, but her coat is just too cottony and it was a huge failure... all that neck hair just mats too quickly on her. Perry has that crisp coat, so it should work. Laugh if you will.... my husband is! He said it looked like someone shoved two sticks up this dog's butt and he's about to tip over forward. :o Quote
Horsefeathers! Posted January 12, 2003 Posted January 12, 2003 Grrrr... it doesn't show up. Oh well, just click here. http://www.geocities.com/socialpoo/peter.html Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted January 12, 2003 Posted January 12, 2003 I finally got a pic up of Rita on the pictures board. Enjoy! Quote
