OMG!! We took a "ride" to see puppies from an add!! I kept telling my husband it sounded like a puppy mill. She had too many breeds listed...... any way, after about an hour in the truck we found the place, and there were all these cars and people around. We didn't know where to go or who to see. Then, we say a guy with a humane society t-shirt and a large camera. Then the lead investigator came to see us and we told him we were there to look at the dogs!!!! I kept asking what was going on and I said "SEE THIS IS A PUPPY MILL, I KNEW IT!!!!!" "I TOLD MY HUSBAND THIS WAS A PUPPY MILL, AND I WAS RIGHT!!" Then I said "GOOD JOB GUYS!! I GIVE YOU A LOT OF CREDIT!! I AM A REAL ADVOCATE" They are taking all the dogs to the Lancaster County Humane Society!!! The same place we were on Sunday (Where the 10-year old rottie was). So we stopped there on the way home to fill out an application, and they were closed!!! But there was a worker in the driveway with a table set up and a sheriff????? I guess there was a major raid throughout the area and maybe there were afraid people would try to get their dogs back????????? THIS WAS SO EXCITING!!!!! I COULDN'T WAIT TO GET HOME AND TELL YOU ALL!!!! I'm going to the site now and apply on line: it is www.humaneleague.com (P.S. I haven't heard from the guy yet from the butcher shop) This is all too weird!!!!!!!

I didn't think we were attacking her, just questioning the breeder. Personally, I didn't know too much about parvo until very recently. We we went to the place in Lancaster, my cousin said we could have brought it back home to our dogs :o She was the one who told me about the bleaching and etc. I think posts like this are very informative!!!! iceyshiver21, I am sorry about your pup

Prevention As with all infectious diseases, minimizing exposure from infected animals is the most effective means of prevention. Since infected dogs shed large amounts of virus in their stool, contamination is always a possibility. The virus is quite resistant in the environment, especially in public areas that are not disinfected. This is a good reason to keep your pup away from these areas until it is older, worm free, and had its full series of dog vaccines. Since this disease occurs mostly in puppies, worms (internal parasites) and poor nutrition add susceptibility. Puppies should be wormed frequently until they are 3 months old. Any dog you already have in the household before you exposed it to a parvo dog you recently brought in (whether it died or recovered from the parvo) should be current on its vaccines and should have minimal exposure, if possible, to the contaminated areas. It is rare for an adult dog that is current on its parvo vaccine (yearly boosters) to get parvo. If you had a dog die of parvo we recommend thorough cleaning with diluted bleach (1:30 with water, or 4 ounces of Clorox in a gallon of water) and waiting 1-2 months before introducing a new dog to the area. Spray the yard as best as possible with a hose and keep new dogs away from the area for 1-2 months. Never put bleach on your dog. Vaccines are highly effective. Ideally, we should vaccinate pups every 2 weeks starting at 6 weeks of age and lasting until 5 months of age. This is not realistic for most people though. Fortunately, parvo vaccines given at 8, 12, and 16 weeks of age are highly effective. Puppies should not be exposed to other dogs or the feces of other dogs until the vaccine series is complete.

I was buying my stack of chicken at the Colonial Village Meat Market and the cashier asks "Are you going fishing?"  They always ask that  And I said "no, they are for my dogs" ....she says "wow, you have to cook all that" ...and I said "no, they eat it raw" .....EWWWWWW, etc. The conversation went on and she asked about my dogs and I said I had a chocolate and a black mix but was on a waiting list for a yellow pup, and how I wanted it for my birthday present and the GUY STANDING NEXT TO ME SAYS "MY BROTHER'S LAB JUST HAD 13 YELLOW PUPPIES!" I was like what? :o Well, we exchanged numbers and the brother is going to call me today!! They are in upstate PA, I have a lot of questions for him, but am very interested!!!! The breeder who I am on the list for still has not answered one very important question: HOW MUCH ARE YOUR PUPPIES? I have asked they twice, and they want a $200.00 deposit, but I am not giving them a penny until they tell me how much they are. I filled out the paper work and have sent it to them, but with no money........ Do you think this is karma (I know, we have been using that word a lot lately)??????
-
I would be as concerned, if not more, on how the breeder cleans up!! How often do they bleach their kennels???? Ask that question too!!

Thanks Crest!!

I am on a waiting list for a yellow lab!!!!!!! Go to www.eastcoastkennels.com I wanted a pup from Belle, but they are all gone already, so I am going to wait for one from "...expecting two litters in Mid August (Maxi X Red and Clare X Red) and they will both have a yellow and black litter" I filled out the application today. They look like wonderful breeders. Any comments on their values and etc. are welcome. Let me know what you think!!

Well, we rescued our last dog, and I am really obsessed with getting a yellow lab. I have searched the petfinder site and have been to two shelters, but have not found one. I was so upset at the shelter yesterday!! People just dump their old dogs there to die :( I was very taken with Bear, the rottie. He was just too big..... and, I think rotties will be too much for me. I have really researched them. I know labs very well, and am just a little OBSESSED!
