1. I know my Tucker Lab does, for sure. Last year, he got hold of a bee, or one got hold of him, and his head swelled up huge and he looked like he had an alligator head, and he was super red and rashy all over. He had to have a shot for that. I wish I'd taken a picture of his big gator head. It was freakin' huge. :o
2. Well, if you're needing pest control, don't count on my Perry dawg. He's useless. The bug was on the floor between the bed and wall and Perry wouldn't walk over it or past it. He propped up on two legs against my bed as if it were a mouse and he was looking for a chair to hop onto.
3. So if I, like, hypothetically enticed them to eat a bug I didn't want to handle, I'm not going straight to h*ll?
4. Do dogs naturally eat bugs and is it ok (assuming, of course, no pesticides were sprayed on said bug)? Let's just assume that a dog ate, say, a big palmetto bug (FL and deep Southerners will know these bugs... think HUGE flying cockroaches). Is it a big deal?
5. I like SG's ideas... especially since the best thing I could come up with was Benadryl.
6. And I like how court puts "weirdos" and "hf" in the same sentence as if they are somehow similar. 7. Cheech, you lived next door to The Brady Bunch! Court, where do you find these people? Or how do they always seem to find you?? Gosh! :o
8. I could have sworn I posted to this. Happy Belated Birthday, you handsome feller, you!
9. Tammy, there is someone right now considering taking PJ that's been waiting until the perfect time for the perfect dog and I've already given her the green light. They currently have a house under construction and are thinking he may be the very thing that completes their home when they all move in (mom, dad, three kids). However, if by some chance, it doesn't work out that they take him (her hubby is a little hesitant about having a dog), I would gladly hold him for you if you're really serious. He's really good with children and people in general, and we're in no hurry to see him leave (except that whole being really attached to him thing, but if he were "committed" to someone, I'd never back out). He'd be fine staying here until you got on your feet again. I'll let you know if the other girl takes him, but it's likely to be a few weeks before they move into their new house, too, so I don't know at what point she's planning to let me know something for sure.
10. Tammy, I really, really, really, really would love to keep him because he's just so perfect, but I can't do it. If I take on one more permanent resident, that will be the end of fostering or any kind of rescue. Besides, I think about what you went through with Katrina and it's exactly the kind of thing I'm scared to death of with having so many dogs here. I know you were probably just kidding. You just don't know how much I'd love to keep him, though. I've known him all his life, so there is already the part of me that doesn't want to see him go. :( Isn't he just stinkin' adorable, though, even with his lop sided, scrunched up 'do?? SF, ain't nothing foo foo about my Poodle dawgers. PPG, where do you want to meet and how fast can you get there? :P
11. Peanut and PJ (with his "beret" :P ).
12. He's a two year old Poodle. If there is a perfect dog, he is it. Very mannerable, socialized beyond belief, loves other dogs, kids, people, not shy at all. 100% reliable housetraining and a joy to be around. He won't be hard to place at all. I've been so lucky lately with my fosters because the last few of them have been dream dogs. I'm more used to special needs dogs. It's getting really hard around here for me to keep names straight. It wasn't so bad when the P's were just Peanut, Perry and Pauly. I mean, they don't sound anything alike, so it worked out ok. Now there's Peaches and PJ (the new guy), neither of which were named by us. PEAches, PEAnut, and PJ sound an awful lot alike, and I get tangue tongled sometimes. This is PJ. His head isn't scissored wonky like that. It was flat on one side from trying to look out the window. Messed up his 'do.
13.
Where's HF when ya need her!
I can't really help much. We have so many that we just toss them together and hope for the best. I wish you lots of luck, though, Pyrless!
14.

he he... HF hit her dog with her crutches... But I'm not sure that would work in this case...
I don't think you're helping the matter. :nono:
But it worked so well.
15. Dog door... definitely not an option in my 'hood. :o I personally would be very hesitant to put a dog door anywhere in a residential area. If we're ever off in the boonies, sure, but as long as we have neighbors, no way. Maybe a happy medium... install the super duper deluxe dog door like Carol mentioned that could be secured pretty well, and it could just stay accessible by the dogs when roomie's home, and he could secure it when he leaves. I don't know how much he's home during the time you'll be working, but it seems theoretically like the dogs would have plenty of freedom and maybe not have to be stuck inside for more than a few hours at a time. I don't think it would be a huge imposition for him to simply leave the barrier off when he's home and put it on when he leaves (assuming it's some easy to attach thing). Assuming your room mate is the reliable type, it might work, and you wouldn't be stuck having to count on him to let the dogs in and out. It's not perfect, but it could just cut down on the time the dogs spend in the house without compromising security.
16. I'm the last of the die-hards with ten dogs and still have carpet in my house. I WANT something else, but in the meantime... :-? The gee golly best thing I've ever used that would take anything out of carpet including the smell was called Equalizer. I've only ever seen my vet carry it, though, so I don't know if it's only a vet thing, but I've never seen it in any other store locally. It's fanfreakintastic. Also, if you've gotten all the poo out, you can often get by by just saturating the spot with vinegar, let it soak through pretty good, and blot up. It'll smell like vomit for a bit, but once the vinegar dries, the smell is usually gone, and I've never had vinegar discolor my carpet (best to test in a small spot, though, I suppose). I've used these even when all ten of my dogs were blowing out all over the place with e coli infections, and it did take the smell out... eventually. Oh! Oh! I just thought of something else I've tried that works like a charm. I have one of those little handheld Bissell spot cleaners. You can use the carpet cleaner that's made for them, but I've found that nothing in the world works better than a splash of Pine Sol (I like the lavender scented) diluted with water. I never would have thought to use that on carpet, but my best friend who is a lot braver than me tried it first, and it worked like a charm. If you don't have a spot cleaner, you can just make some up in a spray bottle and spray it on, scrub it really good... and then blot up with clean towels until it's gone? You're going to want to get it out somehow. You'd also better make for darn skippy that it's diluted well, or it will foam and you'll play h*ll trying to get it out. It hasn't discolored my carpet at all, but I'd definitely try it on an inconspicuous spot first since it's off label use. I love the crap out of the lavender Pine Sol (or rather it's cheap, no name alternative).
17. My husband and I went out for dinner tonight (Reuben sammiches and cheese fries... mmmm), and a pet store is located by our favorite restaurant in this little shopping center. "Porkie" caught my attention. Porkies? I can only assume it's a Pug/Yorkie mix, but it sure sounds like a weird mix. I'm used to all the doodles and poos and such... but Porkie? I tried my best to get a look at one of them, but they were asleep behind glass and all I got was a look at their butts which looked just like the butts of any other dog. See the insane price for these things? Crazy stuff. This is the store that I used to buy my dog food from, but when they started selling live animals, I had to dump them. Porkies... I thought I'd heard it all. :-?
18. Actually, Shihs are typically good tempered, sweet dogs by nature (general breed trait... Lhasas, on the other hand, look a bit like Shihs and can be little brats... maybe that's the confusion). That's one thing in your favor. If you follow some of the suggestions listed above, you should have a very nice dog. I like the idea of feeding puppies, especially small breed puppies several times a day.
19. Tammy, I don't know whether to say congratulations and that's great, or to feel bad. A little of both, I reckon. It is sad that they won't be with you, anymore, but it is also better than it could have been. At least (for what it's worth) it's a bit of closure. I just hate that you were faced with making those kinds of decisions.
