1.
Perhaps you could ask her about Neuticles?
OMG I lost my dinner....
2. Cottage cheese works, but it's kinda messy.. dogs love it tho. Maybe a chew bone of some sort? Do they like bones? You can get the real bones (with marrow and stuff) from a butcher and it keeps them going for hours.... gotta be BIG bones tho, so they cant break off major pieces and swallow them. they'll be ok. My girl is home 10 hours a day and does fine. Usually they just sleep until their people come back :D
3. Maybe this will help Without the danglers (LOVE that term!! hee hee) he will be less aggressive, less likely to run away, less likely to feel the sexual tension that goes with being whole but not allowed to mate..... He is no "less" of a dog than he was before...they're not like people in that respect. He doesnt feel any less "male" and in fact, an unneutered male dog has a greater risk of testicular cancer than a neutered one. This will mellow him out and make him a better companion and pet for you. And,it's not fair, in my honest opinion, to leave a dog whole and not allow it to answer to nature's call to breed. Your pup would be after every dog in heat it could sniff out, and then be frustrated because he couldnt act on what nature was telling him to do. In the long run, since you dont intend to breed him, he wil be happier this way. If int he future you decide you want to breed dogs, then you need to take the classes necessary to teach you the ins-and-outs of breeding, and they're not always easy. Or always nice. Glad to have you at Dogo - pop in whenever you like!
4. I am SOOOOOO sorry for your loss. It is sohard to love them so much and then lose them. Just know that where he is now, he is in no pain, has no grief, and is waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge..... I feel for you. I lost Alex and miss him terribly as well. Hang in here with us, we'll help if we can....
5. GREAT article Marysmama - I was trying to do the same thing with the tug toy, reinforcing play as a means to boost the dogs confidence, but treats may work even better! Thanks! :D they are ALL food mongers, arent they?
6. DP and ROSEBUD!! that's AWESOME!! DP, you should be a politician!! the only thing I have to add is STIFF STIFF (in the thousands of dollars/pounds) fines and mandatory jail sentences for dogfighting. EVERYWHERE! None of this 90 days crap they hand out now, if at all.... classes for first time dog owners, and refreshers when necessary, to teach them the type of dog traits in the animal they have chosen, and basic obedience and stuff. If the breed chosen is a guarding breed, or known to have aggressive tendencies (towards animals or people) they owner needs to allow a home visit from the shelter/breeder after 6 months, to see how the dog is getting on (lots of shelters here do this now) Cruelty to animals should be a CRIME!!! not a slap on the wrist and a small fine....and once convicted, you cant own another pet. period. That's my take... there would of course always be exceptions, which need to be taken into account. Cat collectors are usually somewhat mentally ill, and that requires something other than a jail sentence to fix....
7. I never noticed a sack on any of my males that I had neutered. She did remove the testicles, right? I would definitely ask her...I dont recall ever seeing that. and welcome to Dogo :)
8. yea, why not? He wants to act like a spoiled child, so we may as well treat him like one.... The itsy bitsy spider went up the water spout down came the rain and washed the spider out out came the sun and dried up all the rain the itsy bitsy spider went up the spout again.... I could do London Bridge, too, if you like....
9. and I agree with all of you - when the two dogs played, they would often take turns winning. This is a slightly different approach to the same thought process. It is not a good idea with an overly dominant dog, and it can help with an overly subissive dog. If the dog knows who's boss and accepts it, then fine. Let them keep the toy. Like was mentioned, it's all a matter of the dogs personality. In this case, I suggested it because the dog is so overly submissive he pees when people get near. Dogs rarely ever tuck their tail unless they're afraid. In a pack mentality, letting him win once in a while should raise his confidence. He expects to lose, so it will be kinda pleasant for him to win a few rounds. My point in putting the topy up when done was to make sure the owner has control of the situation, nothing more. I have used this with great results on people with submissive dogs. Just playing with the pack lead boosts their confidence. Winning boosts it even more. :D
10.
courtnek pretty much covered it, but i wanted to add that you should never reprimand your pup for submission urination. it's not something they do on purpose or can help. roxy used to do this everytime my boyfriend would come home and greet her. she still does it every once and a while, but now it's more out of excitement, than her being submissive. good luck! _________________
THANK YOU MYDOGROXY - I forgot to add that. Your pup is not being "bad", it's responing to what the pack would expect of it, and in the pack, no other dog would punish it. Let us know how she gets on. ok?
11. HAPPY FIRST ROWIE!!!!!! Do yo have any idea how much YOU have taught US? Your real love of animals Your real care for all of us here Your real commitment to the best care you can give, to your own dog and to us You are always kind, caring, and forgiving....becoming VERY uncommon in this world. If you were MY daughter, (and I'm old enough to be your mom) I WOULD BE **VERY** PROUD OF YOU!! we hope you never leave!!! Your posts are always a joy to read, and give me hope that the world isnt as bad as I usally think it is. Print this and give it to your mom - you deserve your kudo's!!!
12. This seems to be overly submissive dog week around here.... Start by not raising your voice when you correct her - a firm but quiet NO is enough with an overly submissive dog. Ifg you need to take something from her, use basic command training (sit, lay down, stay) and then approach her calmy and take it away - dont yell at her for having taken it in the first place. When she gives it up willingly, then praise her, also in a clam, controlled vocie - loud rampant praising will only make her more afraid. Build up her confidence. Dobermans are not naturally submissive...so you have to be careful with this. Play tug of war with her two to three times a day (I would suggest 3) at game 2, let her win and take the tug toy. Then play with her again a few minutes later and win yourself (winning the last round is VERY IMPORTANT) and put the toy up. After a few days, with a few wins, her confidence should improve. She is acting like pack Omega, you want to promote her a little bit without getting a big head about it. You DONT want to promote her so much she thinks she's top dog...there is a fine line here. You must always win the last round, and put the toy up. Dont let her take it to her bed. That causes major dominance issues with dogs. With a few wins under her belt, and if you can keep your voices down and level, her confidence should improve and she should stop "submissive peeing" every time you get near. Good luck! let us kow how she gets on
13. It looks bigger int he picture - it's actually a garter snake, quite small... It probably crawled in through the fan vent...
14. May I ask why you are acting this way? We did not insult you, we simply disagreed with your statements. Everyone here is entitled to their own personal opinions, whether you like them or not is irrelevant. We do not want you here if you cannot act in a responsible civilized manner. And we CAN have this thread removed if you keep it up. YOU choose - be nice, or go play elsewhere...
15. Rowie, you're an  If you do decide to take her home, Goldens are generally very good with other animals. Introduce them with the kitty in the carrier at first, then, while supervised, let them meet thru a baby gate. It will take the kitty longer to get used to Rowie then Vice Versa.... putting up signs and stuff is always a good idea too thanks Rowie, just for being YOU!!
16. AH, you see, this place is very, well, ADDICTING..... Once you join us you are in our snare, and you will buy back your soul and give it to us....... :evilbat: :evilbat: :evilbat: LOL
17. I guess you could call this the POSITIVE side of disliking strangers....
18.
A Lethal White Aussie is a Aussie ( like my Cody ) that is a product of Merle to Merle breeding with produces these "lethal whites" who end up blind/deaf or both.. if you look on the picture board i have TONS of pictures of my cody on there. he's deaf. but a doll!! here is a page that is all about the white aussies.. this is the group i'm involved it!! If you have anymore questions just let me know! ask on here or you can email me at [email protected]
THANK YOU!! I am a FIRM believer that dogs can get through most things that people cannot. Deaf, blind, 3-legged, if given a good home, the dog will make it. thank God for people who realize this...
19.
Poor Paddy, what a shock to find a tiger in bed. Wish I could.
            YOU AND ME BOTH!!!
20. I am sorry for you, but happy for the puppie...however, I have to ask... *basic ignorance exposed* What is a "Lethal White Aussie"? why is it called "Lethal"?
21.
I thought of both of you today when I was out for lunch. There was a female Staff outside where we were eating and a Golden Retriever puppy (about 4 months, maybe). Soooo cute. He was just staring at these pigeons with such intensity.
I bet the PIGEONS werent real happy.... The bird-doggie-ness of Goldens is amazing sometimes....and the birds seem to know it. My old Golden would stare at them like he could stop them in their tracks with a glare....but a couple of times he found babies that had fallen out of trees, and would pick them up soooo gently and bring them to me - he had natural softmouth.....their feathers werent even ruffled..... I miss him alot.
22. could be a mix maybe? With a longer haired dog? Never seen a hairy pit bull....
23.
Posted: 25 Aug 2003 17:59 Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I know, I know, I'm always doing this:
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
24. All of the above advice is excellent - let me add a small piece - it sounds like you have an overly submissive dog. It sometimes helps, with a dog like that, to let him "win" a few rounds in a dominance game, to make him feel more confident. The one I like the best for this is "tug of war"...get one of those rubber tug-of-war toys, with ends open on each side so he can grab it with his teeth, and you can hold it in your hand. Play tug of war with a few times a day, fo about 10 minutes. Let him win once in a while, by taking the toy, but when the game is over put it back up. Dont let him claim it as his own; that can cause dominance issues farther down the road. Once he realizes he can win every so often, his confidence will increase. Now this is where you need to be careful. You dont want it increasing so much that he thinks he's boss, at any time. You'll see the change as it's happening. When he stops cowering, stops tail tucking and gets more friendly and open, you can then monitor and pay attention to how many times he wins. In every case, YOU need to win the last round, and reclaim the prize. He may just need some confidence boosting, and I have found this an excellent way of doing it, providing you win every final round. Good luck with him! You sound like an excellent owner :D
25. This just proves to me that PBF really IS a troll, and has been trying to start a fight all along. K, I apologize. You were right from the get-go. DONT FEED THE TROLLS....DONT FEED THE TROLLS...DONT FEED THE TROLLS..... Maybe he'll go back under his bridge now and not come out again soon..... Glad he's gone.
