A stack of old towels is probably your best bet. Towels you dont use anymore. Also, as a thought, you could try straw. They dont chew it usually, and it makes a VERY comfortable sleeping spot. The only problem with it indoors is that you have to sweep or vacuum it up, but it may actually be less work. :)
Hey, I never claimed I was not people aggressive!
hehehehehehe - NEITHER DID I...just TRY to muzzle me....LOL :evilbat: Pitbull Fan, "insultive" is not a real word in any dictionary I own.... And if you all you want to do is be "insultING" than I am with the pack who says "go away until you can be civilized". You dont have to stay here, we wont force you. We are all very close on this board, and yes, we have our disagreements, and we dont always believe the same things, but that is allowed IF DONE in a civilized and responsible manner. We also expect people to be able to back up what they say, with PROOF, not allegations. If you want to troll, go elsewhere. If you want to learn, share and be a part of this board, then you need to clean up your act.

it's not a real shelter - it's a website where all the dogs are in foster homes. Good for the dogs, bad for me... :(

The Blaster virus has taken down and messed up servers worldwide. It could just be a ghost process that cant clean itself up. Hopefully this latest version of "people who have nothing better to do" will be cleaned up soon.

One other note GSP's need LOTS of exercise. They are hunting breed dogs, like to run and roam and chase things. She could be chewing because she is bored in her crate. My girl is half GSP, and never had a chewing problem, but I have an 80X60 fenced yard she can run herself exhausted in. Good luck!! :D

Oh, and one more thing, I KNOW why my dog behaves the way she does. That comes with experience as well. My Ex would not allow her to be socialized with other dogs - he wanted her to mistrust everybody He would not allow her to socialize with people, for the same reason. He teased her relentlessly which made her angry. He thought this would make her a good "guard dog" - She's a LAB for God's sake!!! She has issues, which we are slowly working through now that he is no longer here. But the damage is already done. I may NEVER be able to trust her offleash ANYWHERE. That doesnt mean I lover her any less, just that I have to be more careful than most.
If you notice in one of Pitbullfan's posts, he says "if I had a dog"....this person doesnt even have a dog......
to Pitbull Fan - I DO have a dog - I've had dogs of various different breeds for 30 years. I have had guarding breed dogs, Retriever breed dogs, worker breed dogs, I think I've hit every category except Toys....I have both owned and fostered. I worked with a lady from the Seeing Eye when I worked for a trainer/breeder. You can say I know A BIT about dogs.... My dog is dog aggressive. She doesnt like small children. She doesnt like strangers. I would NOT trust her off lead in a dog park, or a childrens playground. WHY? because I make a point of knowing all the idiosyncracies in ALL my dogs. I know what they will do in any given situation, and I know what to do to stop or counteract it. Slamming Gooey, honestly, has pissed me off now. She has worked very hard to bring her dogs up with love, training, and good self control. Saying she should have had her Pit trained already is like saying kids only need to be taught for 12 years, once out of school there is no more learning to do. YOU have a lot to learn obviously. Oh and by the way? My ill tempered, dog aggressive, child avoiding dog is a LAB!!! NOT a Pit Bull.... Breed standards cannot accomodate individual personalities of the dogs. And while you're at it, STOP slamming Rott, too....

   Too late - someone got him already...... I think I'm jinxing myself. I'm not gonna post any more dogs until I have him/her here!!
If you can love them all and give them a good home. ALL OF THEM, then the number doesnt matter. Foster homes often have 8=9 dogs onsite, but they can afford whatever is needed to be done
Of course, if you live in a trailer and all the dogs sleep under the porch, Jeff Foxworthy will call you a "redneck"....  For those unfamiliar, Jeff Foxworthy does songs and skits on "You might be a redneck IF...."and one of the definitions was people who lived in trailers and had 9 dogs sleeping under the porch. He is hilarious!! He also does a skit on "here's your sign" - where he hands out stupid signs to people who do/say stupid things. One of my favorites is this: Guy in a trailer truck gets the truck stuck under a viaduct because it's taller than the viaduct is. (They are all labelled with the height of the bridge, and can be seen from quite a distance) A cop shows up and says to the guy - "got stuck did you?" (fairly obvious) and the guy retorts with "No, I was delivering this-here bridge and ran out of gas...." Here's your sign.... Another one: and this happened to Foxworthy..... Guy is poking a coat hanger into the window of his car to to try to force the lock to open. Foxworthy stops and says "Locked your keys inside?" (again, fairly obvious) and the guy says "No, I just washed my car and wanted to hang it out to dry...." Here's your sign.

My friend has got to get rid of his APBT
courtnek replied to Angelboddy's topic in Amstaffs & Pit Bulls
Ditch the 'lady friend' keep the pit..........perfect
That's what happened to Alex - the abusive boyfriend moved in and decided the dog had to go....He was lucky my son was there, and I'm a sucker for a hard luck case.... I really hope everything works out well for Brandy. DEFINITELY ditch the so-called "ladyfriend" - she's no friend, obviously -
rugs absorg and then retain the smell....hardwood floors are easier to remove the smell from. Remember, this is completely natural to them, and they dont realize that you would prefer they have their accidents on the floor.... My cat always finds the rug when he wants to spit up hairballs.... I have one floor rug and one runner - and that's what they always choose to have theor accidents on.

I left her another message. I'm getting worried now....is he gone, or what? I would think even if already adopted they would return calls, he's still on their web page after all... :o

I LOVE the first one - that poor kitten doesnt realize he's being loved - he DOES look disgruntled - lol

I have to agree Rott....we took wolves and turned them into dogs. We changed their sizes, their shapes, their temperaments. Their fur. We bred them to do specific things....dig, retrieve, point, swim, guard, and sadly, fight. Pit's were bred to fight, plain and simple. If you take generation after generation of dog and in every litter keep instilling the same qualities, that quality then eventually becomes part of the dogs nature itself. What the dog does with that quality can to some extent be controlled by training, and socialization. However, Pit's were bred to fight animals (bulls, bears and boars) obviously 3 or more times their size. They are stronger than your average dog, alarmingly strong if you dont understand that. They have a jaw that can grip and hold on like a bear trap. No, it doesnt lock. They just dont let go.....because this is what we have bred into them over the years. We as people made the Pit Bull what he is, for a specific purpose. I dont like the purpose, personally, but it's too late to change it now. The problem now is that the media has hyped this thing way out of proportion. I am older than most of the people here, and remember when the German Shepherd was the bad boy (70's) Rottweilers were the bad boys (80's) and Dobies were the bad boys (early 90's) - because of bad breeding, inbreeding, and owners who didnt understand what their dogs could do, all of these breeds were slated as "dangerous" and still are. I find it humorous that of all the dog bites in the world, the MOST are committed by Cocker Spaniels!! If you need any more proof of this statement (or confirmation of Rott's) I have a Lab/German Shorthair Pointer mix. She retrieves, without ever having been trained. She points, without training OR encouragement. I never taught her to do any of these things - she does them because that is what her parents were bred to do. It's what we bred them to do. Pit's fight. Plain and simple. You could go your whole life without ever having an incident with yours....then again, he could turn on tomorrow. Rott was merely trying to point out that the potential is there, and it is up to the owner to be aware of it, and take the necessary precautions. 'nuff said.

She hasnt called me yet!! I SOOO hope he's not gone already!! Something tells me he would be good here.... :o
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What a *&^@!^!!! Sheesh! I can't belive some poeple! I had to applaud you for takeing your dog in and walking away. If it were me I would have beaten the guy with his own bike (literally, I have a very bad temper). Dang..If anyone were to touch my dog in an agressive manner I would not hesitate to kick the Holy **** out of them. Oh just thinking about it is making me mad!
me too. However, the best bet is to keep the dog away from this asshole, since the law wont side with you.. grrrrrrrrr     ..

The proper scenario for animal ownership is the abilty to CARE for the animals. If you can afford to feed, spay, neuter, and pay medical bills for them, then the number doesnt matter. Onlythe CARE matters.... If you can love them all and give them a good home. ALL OF THEM, then the number doesnt matter. Foster homes often have 8=9 dogs onsite, but they can afford whatever is needed to be done.

I suppose I should explain my comment. I used food coloring to dye my hair green for St. Patricks day. I didnt realize it doesnt wash out... I had green hair for pratically forever, until it grew out. It was harmless, but your hair stems absorb it and then you're stuck with it. so if you're going to dye your dog, make sure you dont use commercial dyes, and be willing to wait for it to grow out on it's own.... :D
-
dying a dog for a specific occasion is not bad, depending on the dye. You should not use commercial hair dyes because the dogs will lick their fur. kool-aid and water-based dyes are ok, providing you realize it will have to grow out on its own.....
What about the guy that said he loved his dog more than his woman and if she didnt like it she could get the **** out? I am a fanatic for my dogs but no to the point that i would disrespect and dissasociate with my spouse/ girl friend/ signifigant other. Thats crazy, anyone will tell you that some people are and some people are not dog-people. When two dog people get together it is a beautiful thing. when you get one of each the person that isnt a dog-person usually gets converted right over, but that only happens with considation, time, and understanding. YOu dont force your dog on someone and then expect them to feel like you do over night... it just doesnt work that way. _________________
and yes, Rott, I agree. You cant force love of an animal on another person - it either happens, or it doesnt.....

I had Freebee in an american flag T-shirt for 4th of July. But I dont have pictures cuz I dont have a scanner, and didnt thin to have them put on disk..... she'll tolerate a t-shirt, but no headdresses...I have a santa hat, and as soon as I put it on she tears it off....

Notes: He is a little thin, but ! Chief is a 1 1/2 year-old German Shepherd who is incredible friendly and gentle. He is housebroken, is very family-oriented and loves car rides. He is very active and would need a home with a fenced yard so he can run. He gets along well with other dogs and cats. He is neutered and up to date on all of his shots including a heartworm preventative. OK, I'm going to try again. I have had very bad luck with shelters... I already emailed and left a voicemail.... He looks like he would be perfect for my household - I have a large (80 x 60) fenced in yard. He likes dogs and cats, so if Freebee is ok with him I want him!! I just hope he's still there!! They premiered him at an adoption seminar at one of the local pet stores....

Supreme Court Rules APBT is not GENETICALLY AGGRESSIVE....
courtnek replied to a topic in Aggression
i HAVE EXPLAINED IT THIS WAY: Dogs that have to hunt to survive, homeless strays who form packs, have the infamous "blood lust" because they have to. It's the only way they will survive and they are often leary of people once the wild is brought back out. The wild is ALWAYS there - and will never go away. It can be kept behind the scenes, if the dog is treated and fed well, but if not, it will pop back up in a heartbeat..... The giveawy between blood lust and hunting, is a dog that really has blood lust will eat the kill, and wont share it with anyone but other pack members. The dog that brings it to you sees his place as submissive to you and is trying to gain points with the alpha. -
I would check out the shelters near you - a puppy, even crated, cant make it that long. There are lots of already housebroken dogs in the shelters that badly need homes. Cats, too. Although with a cat, you could get a kitten and it would be ok providing the dog was ok with it. check out this site: http://www.petfinders.com they have dogs from all over the place, and cats too. Good luck! :D
