Guest Anonymous Posted July 13, 2003 Posted July 13, 2003 Hi all--I am new to this board! Has anyone heard of ovarian remants? I have an 11 month old Weim who was spayed @6months. However, she began a HEAT CYCLE 2 weeks ago!! The surgery was done by her previous owners vet--and I am not thrilled with the prospect of having her go through another surgery. Is is medically necessary for her to have this removed--will it harm her to go in and do it or harm her to leave it????? I know she WAS spayed and is not a risk for pregnancy. I just want to do what is best for our honey. Any advice would be helpful! Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted July 13, 2003 Posted July 13, 2003 If you know which vet did the surgery I would take her back to him. I have never heard of that before Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted July 13, 2003 Posted July 13, 2003 Yes, she is bleeding, apparently, an ovarian remnant attatches itself withinhe abdominal wall, and can kick up her hormone levels. (only I am one of the very lucky few that will have dogs that experience this!!) (Our 8 year old mastiff had to have a vulvectomey--yes you read that right-when she was a pup--and now this!!) So, while out weim does not have a uterus, she is spotting! I am taking her back to the vet where they performed the surgery, but don't want ot put her through the process unless necessary! Thanks for your help! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted July 15, 2003 Posted July 15, 2003 Thanks again to all of you! I wa at my vet with her today (not the one who did surgery) and she told me yes, there is a risk of cancer if it is not removed--so on to the operating room. She will have the operation in 3 weeks. I will let you know how it goes-- :P Quote
wolfsoul Posted July 15, 2003 Posted July 15, 2003 It sounds to me like your doggy had tubal ligation. That is where the fallopian tubes are snipped, instead of removing the uterus and ovaries. It will let your dog continue to go through estreus. Unfortunatly, it also leaves a dog at risk for pregnancy, because tubal ligation can reverse itself in the future. Are you sure that this is not what your dog has? Good luck, keep us updated. Quote
mommacat Posted July 17, 2003 Posted July 17, 2003 Good luck - and I think the surgery is a good decision. We lost our schnauzer to a uterine infection after a false pregnancy, and I will NEVER put a dog (or us) through that again!! My sweet  Abbie's legacy is that we learned to be much smarter doggy parents. Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted July 17, 2003 Posted July 17, 2003 good luck with the surgery keep us informed :) :) Quote
behle Posted July 17, 2003 Posted July 17, 2003 Good luck with your girl's surgery. :D Best wishes for a speedy recovery for her! I have never heard of such a thing. I wonder if it is similar to endometriosis (sp) in women? I had a co-worker that suffered from that. It was very painful, and she wound up having to have surgery (I think laser surgery) to get bits of tissue removed from inside her abdomen. :o Let us know how she gets on! :D Quote
