1. I notice Kia's doing quite well! :)
2. Shorty, I'm also in Michigan :) (Lansing area) That's so sad about the lack of help for animals there. Maybe a shelter in a larger city would be willing to help out if people in her area could provide transportation? I'm glad she's keeping these babies, though :)
3. How fun! Macy may have been show quality, but she was never shown. (She was briefly sold to another breeder; when her original breeder got her back, her coat had been cut, and she didn't want to take a year to grow it back!) I would like to show Maltese one day, but Jay has made it very clear that one dog is more than enough.
4. All beautiful photos! I don't have any of Macy; she was almost 5 when we got her.
5. Yuck! Once, when I lived at home, one of our kitties brought in a mouse that was still alive. (It was my fault -- I let her in without looking too closely.) My parents were SO furious!
6. Poor fishies!
7. We had the same problem with Macy when we first brought her home. I knew it wasn't the food, as it was what she'd been eating her whole life. (I did later change it for other reasons, though.) We set the timer for 30 minutes each time we put her food down; if she didn't eat it, we took it away. She started eating like a normal dog after about a week :)
8. Bentley, I'm in the same boat as you. Macy has eaten Iams her whole life (that's what her breeder fed her dogs), but I didn't want to continue feeding that to her after what I read about their practices. Awhile ago, Jay went to the store to get some treats for Macy's obedience class. He came back with the wrong thing -- instead of the Natural Choice treats, he got the Natural Balance dog food that comes in rolls  Anyway, the ingredients looked good, so we tried giving it to her with her regular kibble. She LOVES it! We're in the process of slowly switching her kibble over to the Natural Balance. You can check out the Web site at www.naturalbalanceinc.com
9. Let us know how things go!

Yorkshire terriers

I agree with Carol...breeding toys can be quite risky. We got Macy, our Maltese, after she was retired because she had difficulties giving birth to her second litter. I wouldn't try unless you have an experienced breeder helping out.
11. The poor sweethearts! I'm so glad she rescued them! Have they found homes yet?
12. I gave $20. Wish I could give more, but this dang weddinig is bleeding us dry.
13. I agree with the others...if your dog is show-quality, you may want to give him a chance and see how he does :) How is his conformation in other ways? On the other hand, I personally would not want an unneutered male dog! I think that before 6 months is usually ideal, as that's when they're fairly mature physicall but before they realize, "Hey, I'm a guy."
14. I agree with the others and are glad you're getting a second opinion! Please let us know what happens :)
15. Very pretty dogs! Are they yours?
16. How old is Zebra? I know some Maltese puppies' lips, noses and eye rims turn from pink to black as they grow up.

Tear stains!!

I've been using a little 3% hydrogen peroxide with Macy and have been having some success. There's also a product you can buy at www.eyeenvy.com that some Maltese breeders like; I have it and didn't have a lot of success, though.
18. Bentley, does your Malt get dry skin? Macy's often looks quite dry. The vet thought she might have an allergy and suggested Children's Benadryl, but she hates it and it doesn't seem to be helping. I might give the Missing Link a try.
19. All I can say is thank god this poor dog's little "guys" didn't drop, so this idiot at least won't be breeding him.
20. It's appalling what pet stores charge for those poor, sickly, badly bred puppies. You know, on Wizard of Claws' abominable site, I saw a Maltese pup for $4K!!! And her ears stuck up! (Maltese ears should never, ever do that!) You could buy a show-quality Maltese pup in Michigan for $3K!
21.
I also have to explain to alot of people that IG's are not good dogs for people with small children, they're granny dogs.
I was just saying on another thread that I really wanted an IG, but we are planning on having kids in a few years, so I knew it would be the wrong choice. I can't IMAGINE how anyone would think such delicate dogs would be appropriate for children! Of course, a lot of people think Maltese shouldn't be kept with small children, but Macy was raised with kids and ADORES them. And as we have three cats, too, I'm just going to have to be very cautious and really emphasize to our children the correct way to treat animals.
22. Since it's a sheepdog, I would think it would be in the herding group.
23. Oh, what sweet pictures. I'm sorry if I was too harsh  I guess I got caught up in the whole parvo thing, rather than thinking about the baby you lost.
24. Hounds are one of my favorite groups...esp. scenthounds. (Though the sighthounds are SO elegant and graceful!) I probably would have gotten an Italian Greyhound instead of a Maltese, except that we plan to have kids in a few years, and an IG would NOT be a good pet for children!
25. Still, weren't her other dogs vaccinated? Parvo is a very preventable disease.
