1. LOL. I liked it!!! But Dogpaddle, ur right. Someone could take it for an open invitation... I don't know if they could be smart enough to figure out how to make it though. Hopefully not...
2. I don't know if they cause any unnessecary harm or not... but I know that when the Seeing Eye Dog place breeds dogs, they do a lot of that stuff plus some other tests to see if they'll be fit for seeing eye dog work. When Shadow was a puppy I use to pick her up off the ground a little ways, and roll her over on her back. So that she gets to trusting me. Even now, she'll lay on her back when she's in my lap (yep!!!! she stillll fits!!). But, I haven't really thought much on the matter...
3. I'm not sure what she's crossed with. The humain society said she was crossed with a Rottweiler... but I can tell that she's not because she has absolutely no Rottweiler in her. (her pic is posted in the pictures). The vet said maybe Golden Retriever... my obedience instructer said maybe Border Collie... who knows. She could be part unicorn and I would have not idea (nevermind the horn sticking out of her head lol).
4. Well, that's true. I'm a dog luver... but I personally love playing with snakes at those zoos where you can hold um... and i don't like monkeys... maybe it's just me...
5. Here's a joke that I found on the internet... if only it worked. LOL. Dear Dog Owner, Are you experiencing too many reserves and 2nd places to inferior animals in the dog show ring? In the agility and/or obedience ring, does your dog forget his own name? Well, this simple chain letter is meant to bring relief and happiness to you. Unlike most chain letters, it doesn't cost money. Simply send a copy to six other dog owners who are dissatisfied with the way their dogs are working and showing. Also bundle up your dog and send him/her to the dog owner at the top of this list, and add your name to the bottom of the list. Do not use a return address or the post office may try to contact you. In one week, you will receive 16,436 dogs, and at least one of them should be a keeper. Have faith in this letter. Do not break the chain. One owner broke the chain and got his own dog back.
6. I have a Siberian Husky. I know that you aren't suppose to cut the fur between their toes/pads but how long is too long??? I was just looking at his feet the other day when I realized that his toe hair was getting really long. I haven't been taking him for walks lately because of the weather (I figure it has to get above 20 degrees before I'll go out for a walk) so, does that make a difference???
7. Yea, I'm not sure. I don't think it's because she's too protective of me because she does it when she is with my dad, or my friends, etc. She's been doing pretty good at obedience so I'm gonna see if I can start trying agility again... we'll see.
8. I think the AKC does a pretty good job, thank you very much. Their job is not to stop puppy mills... but preserve the full bred dog or something like that. Organizations like the AKC get to much cr@p thrown their way. They can't do everything! That's why it's up to us dog-luvers out here to help put an end to all of this madness. Do the things that organizations can't. Put up flyers around town telling people about all the bad things that happen to dogs in puppy mills, what you'll get if you buy a dog from that oh-so-wonderful pet store, etc. Every person you meet that wants to buy a puppy, tell them where to go... the shelter. Not the pet stores. No, you will not ever stop puppy mills all by yourself... even a huge organization can't do that. But together if we all combine our efforts to reach out to people and drive people away from pet shops and puppy mills this maddness CAN be put to an end. Just little things can help. Go to pet stores that are over crowded with people just dying to get those cute little puppys in the window and loundly talk to your friend about how all of those puppys came from puppy mills, what puppy mills do with the money, that the dogs will all have health problems, etc. I've done it many a times. Puppy mills are started by low living pieces of F*** that only cares about money... sometimes money to buy their precious drugs/alchohol. I mean think about it! If terrorists wanted more money all they'd have to do is start up a puppy mill and -shebang!!- there's the money for that bomb they're gonna put in the White House, or the plane tickets that they're gonna use to crash into another building. OMG!!!!! I gotta stop... I can't breathe to well anymore.
9. Yes, I think it's genetic. But I think you can kind of change it a little... depends on how well the dog's socialized, trained, etc.
10. Jez! I didn't realize they were so strict on the temp control. If I was shipping a dog from Florida to here, It'd never happen (it's currently -18 degrees outside). It would be easier to just walk to Florida, get the dog, then walk back. LOL. But, I'm glad you got your doggy!!! Send pictures!!!!
11. You can have a black Lab fur coat to go with all that!!!!!! ... but I'm keepin my rug. He's good for when your feet are cold you can put your feet under him. LOL.
12. LOL. My parents e-mailed that to me a while back. I can totally relate to most of them. I've got albums of just pictures of my dogs. And I only know some of the neighbors by their dog's names. LOL. And my mom says my room smells... does it really??? I've got a big sign on my bedroom door that says: GONE TO THE DOGS!!!!
13. Here's some suggestions: Stay up all night until the dog comes and p**** on ur house, then follow the dog home. When you figure out where it lives put about a week's worth of your own dogs' cr@p on their porch w/ a note saying: Here! I'll clean up after your dog if you clean up after mine!!! Or... Stay up all night and capture the dog and bring it to the pound. I've done that with a couple of my neighbor's dogs when they weren't taking care of them.... but then again I don't get along with my neighbors too well.
14. I know the feeling. When I'm walking my Husky everyone goes inside their house, and calls their kids in... they think he's a wolf. But when I walk my Lab (which is the one you should actually be more scarred of) everyone runs to greet her. It's sooooo stupid. That happened a lot when I had my German Shepherd Dog too... he was a BIG dog, but the sweatest in the state!!! I usually use this to my advantage... when somebody bugs me and I have my husky I'll threaten to let him off leash (he would just run away... but they think that he'll attack them), and when I have my lab and somebody bugs me I'll threaten to call my "wolf" and sick him on them. It's actually pretty funny what people will do then. LOL.

sad story

Oh, I'm SOOOOO sorry for your losses. I know how it feels to lose somebody that's very important to you... then turn around and there goes another special somebody!!! Our praires are with you!!
16. Hi!!! I'm a newbie myself, but welcome to the forum!!! I have two dogs; an 11 year old Siberian Husky named Rocky who is known around here as The Rug. And a 19 month old Lab mix Shadow. Hope you enjoy!!
17. I have never owned a cat before either, but I still don't like them. Every cat that I've met has either hissed at me, scratched at me, bitten me, or stared at me with their freaky green-yellow eyes until I freak out.... they're very scary animals. I also don't like them because they really don't care about you... they wouldn't care if you were dead or alive... as long as they get their food. And, which is better??? Cats or dogs??? Well, who worked on Ground Zero??? Who goes to war and protects their country??? Who would die themselves for their owner's happyness??? DOGS!!!!!!!
18. For the test you had to "DEMONSTRATING CONFIDENCE AND CONTROL, THE DOG MUST COMPLETE 10 STEPS" (from my brochure about the whole cabuttal) 1. Accepting a friendly stranger. A person w/ out a dog comes up and shakes you hand and talks to you for a while, without paying your dog any attention. 2. Sitting Politely for Petting. It pretty much explains itself... your dog has to sit politely (not jumping up and down, crawling away, etc.) while somebody pets your dog. 3. Appearance and Grooming. The person who is doing the test comes up and looks at the dog's paws, ears, eyes, etc. 4. Out for a Walk. You have to walk your dog around the room with your dog on a loose leash, while the tester person tells you commands. 5. Walking through a crowd. People (some with and some with out dogs) come to the middle, and you weave your dog around them. 6. Sit and Down on Command/ Staying in Place. You have your dog sit, lay down, and stay while you walk 20 ft. and come back. 7. Coming when Called. You have your dog sit and stay, then you walk 20 feet, then call your dog to you. 8. Reaction to Another Dog. Somebody comes up to you with there well-behaved dog on leash by there side. Dogs are opposite each other, they don't really have to get that close. Which is good because Shadow is Dog Aggressive, and this was the one where I thought we'd fail... 9. Reactions to Distractions. The tester person drops a metal chair, throws down a clipboard, anything loud and scary for a lot of dogs. Your dog shouldn't freak out. This was an easy one for Shadow... She's like a rock when it comes to that stuff. 10. Supervised Seperation. You have to leave your dog (in a sit or down) with the tester person, and go out of the room for 3 min. My dog did fine... she just stared at the door that I left out of... There was four dogs that tryed it in my class (remember I live in the middle of nowhere). Two dogs passed, us and a Chocolate Lab. The two other dogs that didn't pass were (1.) very sensitive to loud noises and scared of the clipboard (2.) was only 10 months old and very bouncy still. I thought it would be harder than it was... but we practiced a TON for this. My obedience instructer was great with helping us prepare for the test. And Shadow did unusually wonderfully that day... thank God!!! I don't know much about it, but if you want more info you can go to: The American Kennel Club Attn: CGC 5580 Centerview Drive Raleigh, NC 27606 (919) 233-9767 - to get a free information kit or call for more info on the CGC at The AKC's Canine Good Citizen Department @ (919) 816-3875 E-mail: [email protected] web site: WWW.AKC.ORG
19. I got Shadow from the local humain society. She gets regular vet care, but she doesn't have any health problems... the vet said she looked fine, and didn't have a problem. I don't think that's the cause of the dog aggression at all.
20. I was just wondering what you all think about dog shelters/humain societies and a no-kill policy. I mean, on one hand it's good because it gives dogs more time to find a good home, and you're not condemning a dog to its death just because he doesn't have a home. But on the other, if a dog doesn't have a home, and nobody takes it home, will the dog actually be happy living in the shelter its whole life?? And if you don't kill some dogs will there be an overcrowding of dogs at shelters??? I was just wondering what everyone thought about this...
21. My little gurl Shadow (my lab) just passed her AKC Canine Good Citizen test!!! Yea!!!! We've been working really hard on the dog-aggression... but in the process she has really improved on her regular obedience. I'm so proud!!!!
22. I have made up some home activation "toys" myself... just a little different than yours. What I do is take up to twelve cups, little boxes, or some kind of container and put them in a row while I have my dog in the other room. I hide a treat in one of the containers, then tell her to "Go get it!" then she runs around and sniffs them all, knocking them down until she finds the treat. Our new thing is trying to not knock over the containers... she has to actually think about which one it's in. LOL. Bye the way your dog's adorable!!!
23. Congratulations!!! I compeat in agility too... but i've only been to one trial. All the same I know how hard it can be!!! I can't believe how many titals and legs you have with your dogs! That's really kewl. Keep going and your doing a great job!!!!
