Connor
Dog
Great Dane
Size: Extra Large
Age: Young
Sex: Male
I.D:
Notes: Connor is deaf, but no one bothered to tell him that. He is a tall dog at 37" at the shoulder and weighs around 120 lbs. He is only 18 montsh old so he will definitely put on some more weight. He has just come back to us after a failed adoption. We placed him in a home down in Southern California back in September. Unfortunately the family's other male Dane has recently started picking fights with Connor. Connor was not the problem, their other male was. They were very broken up about parting with Connor as they had grown very attached to him. Connor is a sweetheart who just needed some consistent training and regular discipline when he first came to us back in July. He needed to know what the boundaries were. He was given up to DDRI by his owner who got him at 3-4 months of age on a referral from another rescue agency. The owner had owned a deaf Dane before but was working two jobs and was unable to properly train Connor. There was also an issue of an elderly relative living in the house that was not able to deal with Connor. This was the primary reason the owner gave Connor to DDRI. He is a warm, loving dog who really wants to please. He is very smart and is learning his basic obedience signs as fast as we can teach them to him. Connor's dream home would already have a trained adult Great Dane (or more), no small children, no elderly or infirm residents, and owners who are familiar with Danes and have time to spend with Connor. A retired couple or someone who isn't away at work all the time would be best. Connor is not a "problem" dog. He was able to learn his basic obedience amazingly fast. In just under a week he had learned sit, down, stay, potty, and had pretty well learned come and his name sign. With just a little extra TLC at first, Connor will develop into a fabulous dog for the right people.

Milo
Dog
Great Dane
Size: Extra Large
Age: Young
Sex: Male
I.D:
Notes: Hi - My name is Milo and people say I'm a deaf-white Dane, I guess that must be something really special. I loved my family and they loved me, but I loved the chickens and livestock too and that was a big problem! My family had me since I was 12 weeks old, and I'm now 2yrs. I have grown to be a big burly boy. I am not all that tall, but at 140 lbs I've got what these new people keep calling substance. They keep saying something about my head looking a lot like a Mastiff too, whatever that is, and that I have droopy jowls. I don't quite know what that means either, but they don't seem too happy when I come and rest my head in their laps right after I get a drink. I am crate trained and neutered and have beautiful natural ears. I do know some sign language and I love people and other dogs. I need to find a really good home with lots of dogs and cats and critters (NO Milo, you need a home that does not have cats, critters, or livestock). I dream about being part of a pack that includes another Dane or two, preferably about my age that I could romp and play with. Otherwise I tend to get lonely when I am on my own. I am a fairly active dog and am used to being on the farm with lots of room to roam. But these new people I'm with are working on this with me. In fact they make me work on all sorts of stuff all the time. Some of it is a lot of fun, cause I love to show of what I know. Some of it seems sort of picky and stupid to me, like not eating stuff that they leave just sitting around in the kitchen. But you have to make allowances for them, after all they're only human. If you would like to hear more about me, please call or email DDRI, or go to their website and check out my webpage (Pretty cool I get my own webpage huh? Though I'm not real sure what a webpage is). I like this new house with all these dogs that are like me and are my size, but I sure miss my old family still sometimes. These new folks wanted me to tell you I won't be available for adoption for a while, but you can come visit me and fill out an application any time.

Glenna
Dog
Great Dane
Size: Extra Large
Age: Young
Sex: Female
I.D:
Notes: Glenna has had a hard life so far. When her owners found out she was deaf they tied her to a tree and pretty much ignored her. We suspect someone may even have abused her. We believe her to be between 5 and 8 months old. She has just come into the rescue program and is still very shy and timid. She is also very underweight due to neglect and a case of tapeworms, but she has been treated and is starting to put some weight on. She has only a vague concept of people as friends yet really, though in just the couple days we've had her she has made huge stride on this. Because of this, her age, and how underweight she is, we will not be placing her for a while. But we welcome inquiries and encourage people to visit and get to know Glenna (and all our dogs) before they adopt. Under it all she is a very sweet loving girl, a typical Dane. We just need some time to find that lost little Dane girl, and help her find her way back to the world. She is loving and very eager to please. She has already learned the sit command and is clearly a smart little girl. Everyone who sees her is completely taken with her, so is just a beautiful girl. She gets on fine with kids, other dogs, and even cats. She is going to make someone a wonderful companion. She just needs someone who can be patient with her and giver her the loving she has missed so far. Is that person you?
