1. That show is so sad, but really happy when they save the animals, I love it. I saw that show a couple weeks ago 2 out of 13 puppies surviving, it broke my heart. Anyone see the one about the rescued animals with their new lease on life? If so how was it?? Wish I could've seen it!
2. Jacsmom, you weren't rude at all! I thank you for your input, but I do already have a lab so it isn't a first dog. I have considered a shelter dog, and if I could get two more dogs I'd get one. But, I'm really a show conformation person, that's why I decided to get an AKC registered dog. Hobbit, I don't agree about the AKC being an evil empire. I'm pretty sure that I've decided on a lab after I saw a old english sheepdog get 4th at agility on tv! It's not just speed, but accuracy. Jacsmom, I won't take the breeding thing lightly, I love the breed and only wan't to improve it and not harm it. That's why we spayed the lab we have now (Winnie!) because she had bad hips  . My dream is to see a lab win westminster!
3. I agree with bk_blue. Temperment is VERY important. Also, if they've fought before they're probably going to do it again. So, as much as I don't want to say this they probably should euthanized them if they have a previous fighting record, but I don't know how many pits have previously fought, so I'm not sure. About what percent of pits have fought before in their lifetime? A majority? Or not?
4. I think it means when you bring her up to your level, she thinks she has as much power as you. Also when she growls at someone, I would tell her no in a low voice and hold her snout so she associates the no with her growling.
5. I've never had one, but I've heard that they have lots of heath problems! Here's a site that has ALL the good and bad of all or most breeds! http://www.yourpurebredpuppy.com/yppbook/index.html It's REALLY good!
6. Do you teach your dog tricks? I've taught mine to roll over, get tail, put paw on nose, get biscuit off nose (flip it off and catch it), retrieve (everything! Things I drop and things I throw for her!), crawl, shake, low five (she can't do a high five), and others also. Like wagging her tail! (not hard to teach a lab! )
7. Sometimes dollar stores have cheap dog toys, might check them out.
8. How do you put on a picture! And how do you make your picture small enough for the pic by your name??? Thanks!
9. Well I'm almost 99 % sure they don't have an up to date rabies or dog liscence. So thank you!
10. Chinese commands??? What does that mean? The commands they give are in chinese??? If so, how are you going to know them? Are you always going to be blurting out chinese to get your dog to do something?? And I agree on the guarding, you don't need to teach a lab anything about that! Yesterday, there was a bang outside and my lab started barking, really loud. That freaked me out because she doesn't bark like she did yesterday! She sounded like a rott! I went over to the door and told her good dog, and she kept it up! I wanted to make sure noone was out there, but I didn't want to let her out (if there was a person they could hurt her!) So I just kept saying sick um, woof, good dog! After 5 minutes I let her in the house (she was in a room by the door) and by now she knew noone was out there (I think), but I wanted her to keep it up so I kept going Woof!, grrrr, and she would do the same. She NEVER had any training for being a guard dog, but I think most dogs know when somethings not right and take action. :D
11. What I meant about labs being slow is their not the fastest in agility. Also, how long does the border collie act like a puppy? (I sort-of get that their never a puppy in the sense of their acting like a workoholic!) I ask that because our lab had a puppy mentality for about 3 years! (she still has it some and she's 8! :)
12. sorry, I don't know how to do quotes!
13.
Jacsmom wrote: (okay Hobbit and bk they do not herd! )
Hey, the lab I have now herds (some! ) at least she thinks she can, and sometime she's a big help! :D
14.  Really sorry about your dog
15. I know a lady who has a dog that she says is an otterhound, but is she is only about a foot tall! So, what could it be? It looks like a miniature otterhound! I am wondering if it could have been extremely stunted, but is it possible to stunt a dog that much? (the gal is not a good dog owner) Which brings me to another question... can you anonymously (sp?) put in a report on someone to the humane society? I know the lady, and I don't want her to be mad at me. She has one so called otterhound, and a chocolate lab. Also, she doesn't beat them or starve them, but they've lived in a kennel all their life  , and the living conditions aren't that great. Is that a ligitimate complaint? Thanks!
16. I am TOTALLY AGAINST cropping! I think dogs are WAY cuter when you don't crop!
17. I'm going to get a puppy and I've narrowed it down to two breeds. The border collie and the lab. I have a lab now and I really like her, but I want to get a dog of my own. I have been reading a lot about both, but I am having a tough choice deciding. I want to do agility, obedience, show, and MAYBE breed. That's some of the reasons the border collie appeals to me, but I know that if you don't have a job for them they go nuts. I LOVE the lab, but they aren't that obedient, a lot more show competition, and kinda slow. Could I get some help please? Maybe someone has have both those breeds and could give me some advice? Thanks! :D Also, I live on a farm so we have LOTS of room to run around.
