Yea, my co-workers are unusual, to say the least. You work in the computer industry, you end up with all kinds....

OK a few more: After the Chicago fire, everyone living in a multi-residence structure (apartments and such) was required to have a bucket of water outside their doors at all times. That law is still on the books today. Back in the 1800's you could be arrested for not tipping your hat to a lady. It has been, and still is, illegal to spit ont he street. and my favorite: In Tennessee, it i s illegal to shoot a whale from your car.... (???? there are no oceans near Tennessee as far as I know)

OK you guys asked for it!! A pig's orgasm lasts for 30 minutes Humans and dolphins are the only species that have sex for pleasure. On average people fear spiders more than they do death The strongest muscle in the body is the tongue. >>> (Hmmmmm.....) You are more likely to be killed by a champagne cork than by a poisonous spider A crocodile cannot stick its tongue out The ant can lift 50 times its own weight, can pull 30 times its own weight and always falls over on its right side when intoxicated (who does the testing for these things?) Polar bears are left handed The catfish has over 27,000 taste buds The flea can jump 350 times its body length, It's like a human jumping the length of a football field. A cockroach will live nine days without it's head, before it starves Some lions mate over 50 times a day Butterflies taste with their feet Elephants are the only animals that can't jump A cat's urine glows under a blacklight An ostrich's eye is bigger than it's brain (A few of my coworkers are direct descendants of the ostrich} Starfishes haven't got brains (The others are descendants of the starfish)    I got this from a co-worker!!!

I checked out the site - it appears that the bulldog was originally bred to hunt, not fight, bears, bulls and boars....the site states they were not originally bred to fight other dogs, but rather were hunting dogs in the colonies. People have used dogs to help them hunt for centuries, so I guess "fight" was the wrong word to use.... I am amazed tho.....
-
Which type of bulldog ????
He didnt say - just "bulldogs"
we certainly know how to disrupt the natural order of things.
in most cases I agree 100% - but it was just a 30 second commercial. I havent checked the sites yet, but possibly they were bred to protect people (or animals) from bears....
In the end, your better off drinking a nice glass of OJ!
:( some of us cant do that, although I would like to. Being a diabetic means limited anounts of fruit juice and sugars, so diet pop and water is my drink (plus a nice glass of wine now and then). :D

TOO LATE! already sucked in...addicted.... :drinking: :D

I was watching an Animal Planet commercial..... some of the things stated: A dog was found lying stretched across a child in Pompay when Mt/ Vesuvius blew up, to protect it from lava. I had read that before. A Rhodesian Ridgeback can hold a lion at bay, and live.... I had heard that before. The Bulldog was bred to fight bears... BEARS??? REAL BEARS??? were they BIGGER back then? Is this true? I'm amazed if it is....A dog that size that can take on a bear is something to take into account....
I don't know why it works, but it does. Two listers on BELG-L said oh no don't use that because peppermint extract is a STIMULANT and won't help calm an anxious dog. Well in this house, it DID help
for the same reason that they give anti-depressants to hyper kids... You'd think tranq's, but the child is actually hyper because he's depressed. The dog may actually be depressed and frightened by the sound, and the stimulant acts to balance him out better. :D

she's beautiful - she looks kinda like a spitz/samoyed to me....

I also have cracked open eggs with a partially formed chick in it - and a few times you could tell that the egg had been fertilized although no chick had developed. I dont think that can always be helped. Fortunately, no rat stories as of yet....It's just a safe bet to wash everything you eat or drink with hot water beofre eating it. I still wash all my fruits and vegetables from back in the 70's when there was a big scare on about DDT in food.... some habits die hard, and I think that's a good thing. :D

I'm glad Zebra's getting better!! All my dogs hated the collar, never met one who liked it....My golden couldnt see well with it on and would walk into walls..... Just to make you feel better, often after surgery a dog will not eat or drink because they know instinctively that if they do they will throw up. The anesthetic has that affect on some dogs, so it's usually just better to let them decide. As long as he's taking water, he'll be ok.... Keep at it - he'll be fine in no time (and so will you!) :D

PUPPY MILL BUST!!!!! WE WERE THERE!!!!!!!!!!
courtnek replied to Daisysmom's topic in Everything about dogs
Oh believe me, I feel the same way!! But the laws are in place to protect the innocent. UNfortunately, they also protect the guilty and the slime balls, like puppy mills. I feel that there will have to be new legislation put through to stop this sort of thing, but animals are not always on the top of everyone's list to have laws made about. You know what's really ironic about it? PETA has the resources (and the lobbying capability) to move the government, but they wont. Dogs dont appear to be obscure enough for them to protect. So much for their charter.... They would rather stop all medical research using animals, which helps protect mankind, then stop people from badly breeding and abusing dogs..... :o -
Zebra will eat and drink when she feels better, dont worry. As far as the pill, put it in her mouth as far back to the throat as you can. Hold her mouth closed with your hands and tilt her head up so she is looking at you, then stroke her neck downwards from right below the jaw to the middle of the throat. Continue this until you see her swallow. Put a medium pressure into the stroke. You are forcing the pill down this way without hurting her. I hope she feels better soon. Poor baby..... :(

that was disturbing.... A lot of people really feel that way about their dogs winning shows. Which is ok, but you have to accept the fact that you might not win, too... And trying to ruin the reputation of another dog by saying the owner cheated (especially without proof) is just wrong.... I dont know Ickle, it just gives me a bad feeling.... There was alot more being said in that poem then just the words.

I have found that if you start them really early, like 8-10 weeks, they are easy to train...at three to 6 months, they get stubborn and it's harder.. after 8 months to a year they get easier again, maye it's the whole puberty thing, they act kinda like teenagers.

Actually, to be really safe, you shouldnt drink from the cans at all. Bottled soda is better, since the part you drink from is covered by the bottle cap. It is still best to open the cans and bottles after you have cleaned the tops anyway. Most people are not even aware of this happening, which surprises me.... thanks for the reminder! :D

C'MON, ADMIT IT.... you ARE running a kennel, arent you? :D :D :D :D If you know any other men willing to put up with that many dogs, send them my way...LOL
