Its something that dogs do, say for example a wild cat catches a rat, once caught it will shake it to make sure its dead, its in there instinct to do it....mine shake there toys or anything else that might be given to them.

Thankyou for posting Sashagirl, i would say its a GreyhoundxPoodle, it definately as the coat and head of a Poodle, long sleaky legs and tail of a Greyhound. Unusual looking!

EVERYONE!! There's gonna b a dog in my family!!
Shannon_C replied to Louis's topic in Everything about dogs
Thankyou for the welcome back Louis, its been a struggle keeping away from the computer. Dont know how i managed. Congratulations in getting a new dog! Let us know what you choose, many nice people here to help with your questions. -
Cairnmom, i would give him more time as he is only just under eight weeks old, he should have all his innoculations before he goes out incase he picks anything up from the street or other dogs.....in the mean time leave the collor on him, even if its a little too big....no pup likes it at first but he will soon get used to it! this would be much better than trying to get him to walk on a leash he isnt used to, refusing to move is his way of saying (i dont like this so im staying put). Once he is used to wearing the collor, put the leash on him but dont hold it....just let him wander around...it will probably feel strange to him at first (this thing dragging behind) keep an eye on him, just incase he decides to have a chew etc. GOOD LUCK :)
Groodle? Why am I surprised? Shannon, I love that pic of Charlie!!!!
Thankyou Sashagirl :D :D i had to literally lie on the floor to get that one! he was good though, he just lay there even though hes looking the other way! :o

Ha haaa, i know that smell.....yes we do have them.....over here those chews come in all shapes and sizes, even the bones are smothered in that smoky stuff! Hmm, not nice once chewed :o
-
Laugh out loud Blue, i have no idea what a Groogle is either....stupid people and as for the rest. Who do they think they are cross breeding there dogs, experts'.....its ridiculous, do people honestly think that there going to get good dogs out of it (no wrong answer) money is the right word and the prices are a shame...you pay that much for a Pedigree!

Hi Tornjak and Welcome! Hes absolutely gorgeous...i bet he's so cuddly :) :)

Obviously by the joke of his e-mail....he hasn't got anything to say about the breed because he doesn't know nothing and so therefore he is just breeding for the gain. Well here is mine but i havent had anything back yet! From what! From what is said on your website, there is nothing to say that your a responsible breeder, nothing showing the parents of the pups or how that are bought up etc, or to invite ask questions of pet ownership to those who might be willing to see the parents before having a pup, it seems your so irresponsible selling/shipping those puppies to people you dont even know are responsible enough to look after a dog...these pups could end up being neglected/put in rescue. they might be an ideal pet for children if bought up properly but you must state the fact that they are a working breed and they are not easy to train, they can get very boisterous and nippy and may bite as they get older if allowed to as pups, when this happens what is going to happen to that Border Collie....well guess what they will end up being badly neglected or end up on the street. Obviously all you care about is the gaining of it, never mind the puppies well being! You can say what you like as i know you will when you have read this, but i dont care. Im a responsible owner and i would never breed any pet to gain from it! THAT WAS MY E-MAIL TO HIM. K, lets just say im not a nice person after all :o

Carol, not at all...i only clip at bit at a time with my Bullmastiff as he has got thick toe nails.....they are also black so its a little difficult to see how far back the quick is...then i use a file once they are short enough. Your doing a good job there girl, take your time!!! :)

Gigishiba, once again thankyou for posting, hmm well looking at the second picture they kind of look like the chews we have here...the ones to the right do anyway....will have to look round at shows etc, see if there are any....im hoping to go to Discover Dogs in a few weeks, might be some there though. P.S Does anyone know if they have a smoky smell to them ? they might be similar to the ones we have if they do.....you dont have to put your nose right against the chew you can smell them soon as you pick them up!

Aroura. Absolutely you and Lilly were meant to be together, she is beautiful.....she is a very stricking looking brindle and i think she was worth the money! Its right what you say about some people, what they spend there money on......i too would rather have a dog myself, especially as i am partial to Bullmastiffs! I dont smoke nor drink (bad habits) i would rather spend my money on a four legged friend...your story is similiar to mine when i first got Charlie (Bullmastiff) he cost 600 but i had him for 500 because the breeder said he had white tips on his paws and a black tail and that he might not be good for showing if it didnt clear, (well what do you know, it did) we only wanted him for a pet anyway, but at the time i thought where on earth am i going to get the money from, it just happened that my partner and myself had some money owing to us...but of course we had to wait a few weeks, which was worth it as my bully boy is real fun to have around and real pleasure to own. I would say that Boxers and Bullmastiffs are not different in character when it comes to slobber lol. Im really pleased that you have found another new friend! :)

Thankyou for posting Gigishiba, funning looking things...havent seen any here yet!

Smooshie lol, just had to laugh at that one :D :D :D :D ....thats the whole point of having a slobbery dog around tell him, the more slobber the better, Ha only kidding....go on get them a bully stick.

Me neither Roo, i would never think about filling my dogs up with vitamin pills, although i know of some that do.....mine just have a chopped up apple or a pear everyday with there food, then occasionally a few vegetables.....there skin and coats are very shiny and healthy :) I used to give them garlic occasionally but the Bullmastiff started to have an allergy to them, getting spots come under his chin...it is a condition the breed is prone to but i think the garlic wasn't helping either.... anyhow his chin seems to have healed up nicely, so im pleased about that..... not because they would open and bleed but they looked very sore.

Pork is not good for dogs it tends to upset there stomach causing diarrhoea, im not sure if turkey is ok but....anthing else like chicken, lamb, beef, liver and kidney is alright to give.
-
Same here Newfiemom, i never give my dogs bones because of the risks...instead they have Denta Rasks as a treat. I also feed mine on Hero Complete Dry Biscuit with mixed fruit and occassionally vegetables. Thats there Barf diet...its easy and simple!

I e-mailed those people as well, but i dont know if i did the right thing though, when i clicked on home it mentioned about Daves Border Collies and to find out more about the breed. Oh well i made my point :o

There seems to be a lot about large dogs in the press, not only about attacking children but also smaller dogs, mainly this is down to ignorance. Those owners dont think about having there dogs leashed when in the park or on a field, they would rather have them running free.....now some small dogs fear the large type because of there size and this is why you get problems which the owners think nothing of untill one of there dogs gets attacked...not all owners with bigger breeds have well trained dogs either but a lot of them do have them leashed,....so those with smaller breeds who are irresponsible enough to allow this to happen are going to end up with an injured pet or worse. The only thing i can suggest is to go to another park that doesnt allow dogs off lead or maybe a field. Good Luck! Please let us know how you get on.

What i am getting from the message about your neighbours dogs running around, it seems that there is either no fence between yours and theres or its small enough for dogs to run through or jump over.....but i take it that (being a sensible owner you would have one) however to prevent any serious accidents happening....a good 6 ft strong wooden fence would be advisable in terms of concrete posts cemented well into the ground to hold the fence panels up, rather than wood posts as these could move and eventually it would all come down with a strong wind. If the neighbours were willing you could go half n'half with the cost to have one put up. I don't advise dogs being tied up, its not fair and in my eyes i dont see a reason why that person should be allowed to have dog/dogs if that is all they are used for....it can make them boisterous, also become aggressive as them kind dont get the attention they disserve. Good Luck! and let us know how you get on.

Congratulations Koolie  I would like to try my Border Collie/Springer Spaniel mix in trialing, lol that would be fun.....she would probably run round with them nipping there back sides when she gets the chance :o

To all the ones named here, the best thing is to totally ignore this guest and just answer any questions or give advice to those who need it, certain people who have attitudes on this forum shouldnt be allowed here! It would be great to hear about a different breed each week, perhaps in alphabetical order :) so we dont miss a breed out.

Gooeydog that is a sad story, i take it that the dogs arent around now ? One thing i should say is when you have got children and pets, never ever leave them alone in a room together it only takes a second for that child to get bitten, usually through jealousy of the dog having no attention because its all given to the child or mainly because the dog as been teased etc, dogs' like us humans have feelings and when a baby comes along it can be hard for them to understand why they have suddenly been left out after all the fun they had been getting over the years, dogs are happier when they are allowed to join in and when they are shown the right way, as well has children who can be cruel without realising it.... its not hard, time and patience is all that is needed for both to get along! I am sorry to hear about your Aunts baby!
