JackieMaya
Why is it that all the Golden Retrievers that you see on the televised dog shows are all light-colored (like Maya) when almost all the Golden Retrievers I see in person (and that I've had myself-besides Maya) have been red? Are the red Goldens looked down on as show dogs? How come? Inquiring minds want to know!
mouseatthebusstop
red is frowned upon in the UK as well
imported_Kat
eww I hate the pale pale retrievers now that are almost white! A golden retriever should be a light golden in my eye but over the years I have seen the breed getting chunkier and lighter in colour and also the coat is nearly straight instead of wavy which is a distinguishing feature. Not that I'm biased or anything  , but Zoe is a great example of what a retriever should look like and retriever judge critics have also commented she is of excellent standard too. Bearing in mind that Zoe will be 14 years old next month as well! JackieMaya
Kat, Zoe is gorgeous! And I agree about how light the Goldens are getting at the Crufts show (remember that one that was in March? ) the Golden almost looked white! The Golden I used to have (Crackerjack) was so red that people always asked me if he was part Irish Setter. But he was purebred Golden. And when I went to the Golden Retriever doggie picnic last fall with Jackie and Maya, almost all the Goldens were red. Isn't it funny that the show Goldens are real light but the majority of pet Goldens (at least all the ones that I see) are red? Personally, I prefer the red ones. It's good I don't show! LOL This is Cracker with my dad (they're both over the bridge now). Look how light Maya is compared to the two other Goldens in the picture. I think I saw one other light one like Maya there, but all the others were red.
