Guest Anonymous
My dog Milo has been chewing on his fur for quite sometime, usually he stops before it gets nasty, but lately he won't stop so I have a cone on him. My other dog did the same thing and ended up with a hotspot which I treated and it healed fine. So I'm thinking Milo has the same thing, there are open sores now which im cleaning with a mild astringement, I wanted to know if it is okay to apply Variton to the affected area or would polysporin work better? mouseatthebusstop
it is more likely the skin is already irritated thats why it is getting chewed it could be hot spots , fleas even mange you will need to find the cause first
alicat613
The only real way to address it is to find the cause, most likely fleas or a food allergy. What are you feeding?
zac850
It could just be an alergan to something he walked in (pesticides?). I would sugest taking him to the vet. they will proubly give a depomedrial injection (a steroid show which will stop it from itching, so he will stop biting and licking at it, so it can heal) and some clavamax or some other antibiotic if there is an open wound, and maybe even some topical medication, depending on how bad it is. I hope he gets better soon Zac
