This dog went beyond the call of duty in order to save his loving master.
This is an uplifting story with a happy ending.

People don't give their dogs enough credit. They love us more than we will ever know. The thing that got me about the story was that he went out of his way to save his someone special, he wasn't trained to do what he did. It was emotion.
Maybe we should start our own little hero of the year dogomania style. Any little thing that your dog did for you. What do you think?
My mal gives me a rope tug toy all the time, can any of you beat that?

P.S. There are some other great stories on that site of dogs and their humans and what they did for them. In the archives section! They also have a doggie comic section.

Well, here goes, I don't tell this story much because no one (well, my sisters and my parents) really believe me because I was the only one there, and I don't remember half the story!

About a year ago, I was sick, but I thought I was getting better, and couldn't bare the thought of Hazel havning to miss her daily walk. It was winter, and was snowing a little bit, but not that much. So I pulled on a sweater and hat, grabbed Hazel's leash, and took her for a walk.
Where we live we are surronded by bushes, and not many people. So we were down the road beside us, and it was dead sillent (one of the things I love about winter) and not a soul in sight. I started to feel dizzy and sick again. And of course, with my luck, it started to snow REALLY bad. Because of all the white that was begining to surrond me in a flurry, I became more dizzy. I colapsed in the snow. I don't remember too much after that... I remember telling Hazel "Home" a commad we've taught all our dogs in the past because we live so far out in the bush.
Next thing I know, I woke up at home, my head was aching, as well as my back. Then I felt another CLUNK on my head, and scrapping on my back. Hazel dropped her Kong  on my head, and was pawing at my back. I had TONES of scratches all over my back, so I guess she had been pawing at me for some time. As soon as I lifted my head, she wagged her tail. I dragged myself to bed, and slept, when I woke up I felt much better. Unfortanatly I don't remember everything of what happened that day, but I know I have Hazel to thank.
Which is what's making it harder on me each day because each day my mom rethreatens to get rid of her  This morning she got into the kitchen because the door knobs broken, and she ate a loaf of my mom's bread!!! Which takes her a long time to make because it's made with Almond Flour and stuff.

I call Jesse, my Belgian Sheepdog, a Belgian Retriever, he will bring me ANYTHING I ask him for. He routinely brings me all 3 dog bowls (tho 1 at a time!), he will go out and get the morning newspaper and when it's time to go somewhere, I say where's my purse and he goes and gets it. I have to keep his brush out of reach or he'd bring me that too, he LOVES being brushed.
Now thats just trick stuff, luckily I've not really had to find out how heroic he might be. There was one time we were walking on the sidewalk when a couple of people came out of a store just ahead. A man was mad about something and was very loud and gesturing with his hands. Jesse kinda swooped in front of me and sat down, I dang near fell over him. He was very rigid and stared at the man. Ears up and tight, leaning forward a bit. Never growled, just stared. I thought it wise to trust him, he sat like that never taking his eyes off the man until the people were in their car. Then he just looked back at me and grinned and we went on our way.
I was glad the man did not notice him, never know when someones mad how they might react but I do imagine if he had come too close Jesse would have reacted quickly.

WOW!
Have to say they're all very impressive dogs. I'm jealous!
When we lived in Wyoming we had a grizzly bear problem. One day we were watching t.v. and Shiloh (our hound) started growling softly. We never think anything of this because she'll growl if a squirrel comes by.Then all of a sudden she attacks the door, Robert gets up to check it out and starts hollering at me. A young male grizzly had decided to check out our dog run (fortunately he didn't get stuck). Shiloh and Willow put up quite a ruckus of noise and he decided to mosey on out of there. And boy do I mean mosey. Robert even grabbed his gun and shot twice in the air, didn't bug the bear one bit. Not exactly heroic but hey they wanted to protect us (or chase the big fuzzy squeeky toy  )
The other time we ran into two older cubs. We were leading our horses as we were all exhausted from riding all day. Next thing we know there are two bears next to us and kind of running alongside. We hop onto our horses and take off, the dogs in the meantime were on the heels of the bears. Scared me half to death, I didn't know if mama bear might still be with her cubs and the cubs were swatting at the dogs.
Our dogs and horses received marvelous dinners that night. The horses didn't spook and the dogs scared the bears off.
Oh and Mei-Mei, my dogs would be calling every food delivery place in Oregon before calling 911. I wonder if we should all consider preprogramming 911 into our phones. Then if the dogs keep hitting buttons maybe they'll get lucky.
Carol, it sounds like you have someone very special in your life. What a dog! :o
Also sounds like Hazel has a little more angel in her than people are giving her credit for. A side note: you might consider purchasing a crate or dog run for those times you can't keep an eye on her.

thanks wildbunch, but I do have a crate for Hazel, it's in my room (taking OVER my room actually! )
yeah, another great hiroic dog story I have for ya'll is about my old Lab Blue. He was, (in my eyes anyway!) THE BEST DOG EVER, while Hazel may come very close though. We got Blue from the SPCA when he was one, I was also one years old at the time. Poor ol' Blue had to be put down last year because of heart failers though, but he lived a long, happy, life, full of treats! LOL We just couldn't help it! Pluse he'd be ALWAYS getting into the garbage or cookie etc.
But anywho,
One day Blue Boy starting going bonkers. He would "run" (he was a little over weight) back and forth between me and the door, barking, and carring on. I'd never seen him act like this before, so I opened the door. Blue took off, and right away I though "BOY I'M DUMB!!!" I quickly pulled on my shoes and ran after him.
In Blue's old age, I'd NEVER seen him run like he did.
And then I heard it.
Two litle girls, no older then 7 were screaming. Circling around then with his hair raised, teeth bared, and barking was the neigbor's dog; Duke. Now don't get me wrong, Duke's normally a good dog, I haven't a clue what got into him that day. But my precius Blue Boy went tearing after him, and rammed him into the ditch. Duke knows not to mess with Blue, and wimmpered away.
I gathered up Duke and asked the girls if they were okay. They said in tears that they were fine, and hurried home. So I brought Duke home and reported what happend.
About a week Later I was walking Blue, Duke, and my new Puppy Hazel (hee hee) and I passed the little girls and their mother. The one little girl was like "Look mommy! That brown dog's the bad one, but the black one's good!!" It was so cute! :D
