  1. I'm so sorry about your loss. I think we all know how you feel. Hugs
  2. I am so sorry and I know how you feel. They are our family and it hurts so much to loose our pets who are always there for us. I still miss my Kassi who I lost in 2001. Try and remember all the good times and you will feel her with you. Hugs

    Labor Signs?

The temperature is a sure sign. Also with the panting it is pretty much constant. Alot of dogs also dig at bedding and try to dig in gardens to make a nest. It is much different than a normal panting dog. Just keep taking her temp twice a day. It should normally be between 100 and 101. When it drops to 98 or so and stays there she should be going into labor. Good Luck.
  4. They are adorable. I know how you feel about no sleep. Nellie had me up for 24 hours before she started pushing. She had them between 12:30am and 3:30am. It went well and she is a great Mom. Sweet little babies. And puppy breath AHHH love it!!
  5. Going to the beach is a lot of fun with dogs that love the water. Nellie loved it. The only thing that made it difficult later was VERY loose stools from drinking the salt water  I think the lead is a very good idea until they get used to it
  6. Sorry everyone I keep forgetting to sign in. The last post was from me. Again my thoughts and prayers are with you dear.
  7. Thank you so much for your suggestions. I saw you are from the same area I got my Topbrass goldens from. Such neat and smart dogs :D
  8. HI Everyone, I want to thank all of you for your wonderful suggestions during Nellie's pregnancy. She and her pups are doing very well. Their eyes are now open and I have some new pictures coming that I will post soon. I had a buyer ask me what I would suggest for a good book on training puppies. I asked about breeding books and took your advice and bought The Book Of The Bitch....which was so informative. :D So I thought maybe some of you might have a suggestion for a good book. Maybe even one for Golden Retrievers? Thanks
  9. I just loved reading this. If our dogs could speak I know this is what they would say. Thanks for posting it :D
  10. Thanks Cassie. I had been giving her carrots but apples sound good. I have never tried them. I am with her all the time now so she doesn't scratch the areas she had irritatated before. The only area now that still is itchy are her ears. I have been cleaning them out with vinegar and water every day and she was doing well until I had to go out yesterday for a few hours. She does much better when I have her with me. She is uncomfortable right now and is clingy. She is getting lots of attention and spoiling from me. I sure know how is it to get big and pregnant and I have sympathy for her :-? Only about 4 more days to go :)
  11. I have really enjoyed doing obedience with Nellie. I can tell you the best way to see if it is for you. Go to a class or two and observe. There are different methods and some work better than others in my opinion. I went to a club for a year and wasn't getting anywhere, and then found this lady who teachs all levels and has a lot of experience. Nellie has just blossomed in her classes. Of course I am the one who had to learn how to motivate her.
  12. When I think of all the people out there who pay no attention to genetics and all around health of breeding it drives me crazy. The extent I went to to breed Nellie was involved to say the least and I wouldn't do it any other way!! Makes me very angry :(
  13. Nellie has a week to go before she has her pups and she has developed this constant itching. Paws, ears, and even her eyes seem to bother her. I took her to the vet and he gave me some benadryl. Althought he says it is safe I hate to give her anything that might hurt the pups. She has been on Innova for over a year but one thing I started doing in November was making her bisquits. I was thinking maybe with the ingredients ....wheat flour, corn meal, wheat gern, yeast and reg flour with chicken broth might have made her develop this condition. I have been reading where some dogs delvelop an intolerance to grain and if that is the case with her these bisquits would really aggravate her. I will look more into this after the pups are weaned but I am just wondering what your thoughts are on this?
  14. OOPPPS Cassie. I forgot to sign in before I replied. The reply from guest is from me. Can you tell I am new at this
  15. YIPEEE!!! I am so happy for you Cassie!! :D It is good to hear how well she did with her first litter. I bet the pups are adorable!! Nellie is due in about 10 days so I am watching her closely. Poor thing is getting rather uncomfortable. Lots of spoiling going on  Looking forward to those pics!
  16. Nellie didn't like and still doesn't like having her nails clipped. I slowly worked my way with her by doing just a couple at a time and always having a treat for reward afterwards. Now she holds still for me when I clip them. I think praise and reward helps when doing anything they don't like :)
  17. It is less than to weeks til Nellie is due to deliver her pups. I am looking back on posts on whelping and getting great info. Thanks to everyone with all your knowledge. Especially you K :D It has been 10 years since I did this with my much loved Kassi girl. She is playing with all other fun loving dogs in heaven and I miss her still  Nellie is a fine golden with great genetics and personality. I am so excited about the big event and we plan to keep a pup. I think I am all ready with my whelping kit, but would love to have a good book on whelping. Is there one that stands out for anyone? It is always nice to have a referrence. I am fairly new here and am enjoying all the posts. I finally got her stools firmer with rice and pupkin in her food. Thanks for the advice.
  18. I bought Nellie this duck that quacks VERY LOUD and 4 series of them before it stops and then it is all over again. The only way I could get her to stop was to get her another toy that had a much less anoying sweak and finally she gave up on the duck most of the time. I espcially love it when I am on the phone or turn on the tv. That is usually the time when she gets noise toys out to entertain me!! :x Can't help but laugh though.... Good Luck!!
  19. I haven't seen any posts from Cassie and know her "Newf" is pregnant and was due last week. I hope everything is going well and everyone is healthy!! :D If you read this Cassie let us know. Nellie is finally straighten out with her loose stools and doing great!! Only 17 more days!! :P Kathi & Nellie
  20. She is 2 1/2 and the my vet doesn't have an ultra sound machine. I took her in at around 31 days and he could feel that she was pregnant. I have a lot of confidence in him. He has two goldens that he has bred also and did her hip xrays. I had her other tests (eyes and heart) done by specialist in a city near by. She has been on Innova for over a year and this is the first time this has happened. Wouldn't it be risky to try a new food now that she is pregnant?
  21. Nellie is still having diarrhea every time I put her back on her Innova. She is on her 45th day of pregnancy and is calming down more, but still playfull. A couple weeks ago when this started I gave her ground beef (cooked and rinsed) and rice for a few days. She was doing well so I started mixing in her food and her stool were very loose again! I have been reading were pumpkin helps and I am going to buy some to mix with her food and rice, but I also read about yogurt. Does that also help? I was planning on taking her to her obedience classs tonight since she mised last week. Instead of her normal reward treats I have cut up very small pieces of string cheese. She loves going and I think it is good for her to be active right now. My other golden I bred never had this problem of loose stools that I can remember. I want to make sure the pups are getting the right amount of nutrition. Any thoughts on this would ease my mind. Thanks :)
  22. I am afraid I am old enough and am a grandmother. It is alot of fun but very tiring  Nellie is doing much better today. She is wanting to play with her frisbee so I know she is ok. Thanks again :) Kathi
  23. I found a great puppy questionaire. Thanks to anyone who was looking for me :D Kathi
  24. Hi Cassie, Thank you so much for your reply. My vet called me back this morning and told me almost exactly the same thing you did!! Guess I didn't need the vet after all, just someone like you with experience. I am new to the site and just love it. I will post pictures also. I just love Newf's!! They are the sweetest dogs, big and lovey :D Good luck and I will be looking for your posts and pictures!! Kathi
