oh, don't apologize!!! Sounds like quite a day if you ask me! But it ended well, which is really what's most important.

funny, Oscar's last obedience class is next saturday and Zack and I were just discussing whether it was worth it or not .... and for us, it really is. It's been a few years since either of us has had a puppy, so we needed the refresher on teaching. And we both work a fair bit, so it kept us not only practicing daily, but doing things the same way, which is so important. So I guess it was more for us than Oscar, in a lot of ways. The class also helped Oscar learn that not all time with other dogs is playtime. He loves to play, so it was very important for him to learn that it's not always appropriate. And I had such a time of it in the parks and such because other people will just let their dogs go where ever they please.

Shelters do s/n very early. At the SPCA here, they guesstimate the age of abandoned litters that are brought in at about 8 weeks really most of the time. Oscar couldn't have been more than 5 weeks old when we got him, but they claimed 8 weeks and he was already neutered. I've heard that this goes on at virtually all the shelters in our area.

Sounds kind of sketchy to me. My pup was done VERY young, but that's because I adopted him from the SPCA and they neuter all the dogs before they're adopted. So, not that I agree with the practice at all, but Oscar was done at about 7 weeks and he is fine now .... but I do think it's a big risk with such a tiny pup.

I certainly don't have answers, but my pup Oscar, who is very well socialized and plays in an off leash park nearly every day, started to lunge at other dogs walking on the street. It was awful and I was very upset. But the folks here gave me some advice, and it made a world of difference when I made sure to pay attention to the signals I was giving. Now that I make sure to stay calmer, Oscar stays much calmer. And don't be upset by this - it's not your fault and sounds like you're doing a great job working with Cody! I'm sure you can get him through this :wink:

I meant that my vet told me that puppy food was not necessary at all. I left Oscar on it because that's what he was on. She said if I was going to leave him on the puppy food to be sure to get him onto adult food at about 7 months. Then my vet recomended Wellness, Chicken Soup, and Canadie. I think she's all right ....

My vet has told me the same things, TDG. However, Oscar is 7 months old and I am in the process of changing him to adult food now. The vet told me that 7 months was the right time to switch if you use puppy food.

Oscar's on his second bag of Blue and I think it's going pretty well. ** and there's a rebate coupon good till 10/31** I like it!!

I haven't been here for that long, but the reason I stay here is the sense of community -- and the great advice ... while I do agree with Mei-Mei, it's your choice to leave -- I just wanted to say that I think you all make this a fantastic place .... and I'll miss you DAL ...
