1. What she said. It's almost like house training all over again but before you taught them to go in the yard now you're going to teach them to go in a paticular spot.
2. Door knocking, doorbells, dogs barking, or fireworks on tv will all get my boys going. The best has to be babies/kittens/puppies crying. Both boys become very alert, they cock there heads side to side, look at me, and sometimes even whine or go looking for the source, very cute.
3. Sadly I love the look of cropped ears but would never do it myself. It just seems that cosmetic medical alteration for purely aesthetic reasons is innappropriate.
4. I am oppossed to medical alteration for cosmetic reasons in pretty much every case in pretty much every species. Of course if a dog ends up damaging its tail or dew claws, paticularly repeatedly then a surgical option can be reasonably considered.
5. They look a little too furry for pit pups to me. However, I think you may have to wait at least 3-7 weeks for even a partly reliable guess. Puppies look mostly alike - there is poofy cute, sleek cute, course cute and curly cute in a variety of colours. :D
6. Beautiful. I think the smooths are stunning dogs.
7. Have her adopt an adult black lab or black lab cross? Already trained or mostly trained, temperment already known, adult size already known, often good with kids, has enough play and energy for kids usually, easily solid enough to deal with kids, there can be smaller labs between 50-70 lbs or lab crosses 30-? lbs probably and black labs are the most common dogs in shelters and black dogs are hard to adopt out. Good luck.
8. She is great isn't she. I always refer people with dog food questions to her site now. Welcome to Dogo BTW.
9. As much as I would have liked to have her stay out there the whole night at least letting her return to jail will allow the judge to keep doing what he does. If she'd been forced to stay out there and got frost bite or lost a toe who would have gotten in trouble and been hamstrung in the future.
10. Excellent as usual HF. Bathroom doors - have to train new borders but they are great so it shouldn't be a problem. Garbage can - I was hoping to get a different one with a better lid but putting it up/away might be better. Diversions - They already have stuffed dollar store toys that they gut and I sew up and reuse stuffing too. But I never leave them with them when I'm not home because my boys gut and CONSUME once in a while. However the tp rolls would be alright, they love those.
The thing is, it's like it becomes a compulsion. It may start with nibbling on the bedspread, for example. Then it turns into EATING it
That seems to be the case here, it started with a little foray into the trash that had been left with the lid up and moved to full scale raiding. They are probably bored, I will have to do something about that.
11. I dog sat a 9 year old springer and I BELIEVE you. He was actaully extememly well mannered and behaved but a bundle of energy and play.
12. I would be less confused by it if they were puppies but Kavik will be 4 this December (gosh it is unreal that we've already had 4 years together) and Zaphod turned 3 this past October. Hardly puppies and almost completely out of their teens so to speak. Oh well, I'm sure it can be corrected I just wondered if someone who had to go back to basics had a timeline or storey.
13. For those of you who have had relapses in house training (not elimination just chewing and getting into things) and who have gone back to the basics: How did it go? Did you go right back to crating? Did you, eventually, regain all the lost ground? Kavik or more likely Zaphod or perhaps both of them as a tag team have started decimating the kitchen while I'm out. They have been so good for so long I am perplexed but it may be the move I guess. Anyway Zaphod was to the point where anything at the back of the kitchen counter was a real no-no (but things at the front were obviously invitations  ) and the garbage can with the closing lid was working fine. Lately they have dumped the garbage and scavanged, eaten an entire plate of cookies from the back of the counter, taken a loaf of bread off the table (never did that before) and taken to removing whole rolls of tp out of the main floor bathroom and playing with them and eating them (toilet paper has been fairly safe for quite a while too before now.) Gah! I may have to buy another crate as one of there old ones is too small now.
14. I like his other sentences too. He is a cool judge. Which of course means someone will stop him. *sigh*
15. Yes she may be pregnent. Best way to know for sure is to take her to a vet. Also if she is pregnent a spay can still be done if she is not to far along, you're vet will know. Best to take her soon though. Welcome to Dogo.
16.
alena got me in trouble
WTF Alena didn't get her in trouble! She got her in trouble by sneaking off to Texas to ride the ex-con I met online express while her husband was deployed! GAH!

Yes but just think - we could sucker all those muttsadoodle purchasers into buying the real thing.

19. Absolutely. I can understand your reaction given all that goes on around pits. To tell you the truth when people think that BCs are an unmanagable bundle of obsessive energy I'm pretty happy to let them continue believing that - that way there might be one less unprepared owner. However, with pits you have to fight their image to avoid BSL so its a slightly different storey.

I don't see anything inherently wrong in crosses. I just think breeding should be extremely limited in itself until the unwanted dog problem is in check and you might be more likely to find controlled responsible breeding amongst the working and show folks. Of course there are exceptions on both sides. :( HF didn't see my Barbonadoodle suggestion. I'm sure she would have liked it.
21. Could be delayed reaction from the move. I took him out to the conservation area today for a long walk and tossed the kong for over an hour on and off and let him get dirty - which always seems to improve his mood. Maybe the stress of moving and schedule change was getting to him because after the outing he's been a bit better. Strangely I also found a 3 cm by 1/2 cm gouge/scab on his back that looks a couple days old, doesn't look like a bite at all but it could have been a claw from roughhousing with Zaphod I suppose but that's never happened.
22. No go here, roomies weren't up for it, sorry.
23. Hmmmm - They could have just been referring to the fact that pits are high energy dogs. I think you'd agree that they need lots of excercise, of course American Bulldogs need lots to. Any dog that hasn't finished its manners training and isn't getting enough excercise may jump up on people and be hyper.
24. I have no idea what has gotten into Kavik lately but the last 3 days or so he has been more than a velcro dog. He has wanted attention ALL the time, I cannot pet/scratch/snuggle him enough. He even has asked to play less in favour of snuggling. He is also never more than 5ft from me. I love him dearly and enjoy the fact that he is a real people loving dog but the constant extra neediness is getting a little tiring. It's so bad that if I'm petting him and and finish a stroke and lift my hand to restart the process he nudges my hand because it has stopped for a split second - I mean I am in the process at the time. :o
25. Well I think I'm 6-9 hours away from most of IL, I'll talk to the roommates and see. Don't hold your breath, but it can't hurt to ask.
