1. you always post the best stuff Ickle :Fade-color
2. Was resently told that a horse , namely cutting horse , would pass on more cow instinct the older and more experience he is. If this is true wouldnt it apply to dogs also ? It seemed a little far fetched to me ,I thought it would be that the older the sire the more chance to see his working potential ( and give you an idea if it has the working qualities you are looking for )Interested to hear other peoples thought on the matter  I started thinking about this after reading the post on the silky dog (2 yr old)
3. Call me silly or whatever but if you cross a b/c with jack/r who is to say that the pups wont look like a border with the brain of a j/r .Genetically this would be possible ????? :o
4. Dont laugh sounds like a great idea but gee Id need a lot of compost bins
5. Just a comment regarding the b/c they do come in merles with glass eyes just not in the show ring the koolie/german koolie is believed to be a descendant of b/c and the aussie sheperd is believed to be a descendant of the koolie what goes around comes around huh
6. Couldnt agree more Hobbit
7. One small point I'd like to make is that the vaccination for kennel cough only protects the dog from one strain I use to do rescue for my breed only to introduce kennel cough to my dogs and even though they were vaccinated they still got it apparently there are various strains so be very careful
8. Checkout the similar coloring Here is a picture of a catahoula
9. He is georgous bullygirl reminds me of the catahoulas I dont think he's ugly at all (he could always come and live with me  )
10. Thanks Hobbit that is what I call laymans terms (easy to understand) The bitch comes from a dark blue merle bitch with two blue eyes the sire was a red merle two brown eyes (it is most likely that the fathers parentage is 3/4 koolie 1/4 kelpie as I know the breeder of the father) her banding as you call it is in the typical border collar area only . As a pup the bitch (mine that is ) showed a strong likeness to a border collie eg head shape temperment which really doesnt concern me as if she is an outcross 3 or 4 generations ago (I know for a fact it has to be at least that long ago) then hopefully it will create fresh blood with not too many bad genes :o I'm thinking of putting her to a 60% blue merle 40% white dog with one blue eye and one brown (it will also depend on working ablities as the bitch is only 9 months old so she wont be breed for 12 to 18 months) I know it is a bit of an experiement as far as the results but unforunately it is unheard of solid to solid breeding at the moment . I believe the dog to be a double merle his mother was a dark blue merle and his father was also a merle and white to make matters worse they were brother and sister and his grandparents were merles as well if it wasnt for the fact that his working ability was exceptional I wouldnt breed from him at all . The last mating I did was to a blue merle bitch with tan and it was a disaster I lost a third with eye sight problems. Having been to the site you recommended Im actually wondering if my bitch is not a sable merle she has quite obvious tan points and there just seems to be a slight hint of brown through her blue merle I tried to compare her to the shelties but it is hard with the long coats I would certainly never breed those two again at the time I had a lot of misinformation about merles . I wont breed this bitch again unless it was a solid out of a solid its a shame she works beautifully. Im in the process of mapping out the generations of colors of my dogs I was wondering if you could take a look at it if I email it to you ?
11. Thanks Hobbit can always count on you to come up with the goods  It looks like Im off surfing to Alaska Do you remember the black and white bitch (you said it looks like a McNabbs) out of a red merle and blue merle bitch she has developed (probably always had) white hairs at the base and turns black half way up the hair could this be a sign of a cryptic merle I guess its most likely as she was a merle to merle breeding .One more question is it safe to breed her to a merle (from merle to merle parents)?
12. Hello genetic nuts  I was wondering if anyone could tell me about research done on color genetics merle in particular , Hobbits given me some good websites but what Im also after is where abouts the research is conducted ( universities people ect) . I would also like to ask is the merle gene of a great dane the same as a b/collie ?Im completely frustrated by the genetics of my breed and need to have hard facts to pass on to others involved with koolies As it stands 90% of the breeders in Australia breed merle to merle I know this is dangerous and every time I try to explain to owners they give me the old but thats about shetland sheep dogs /great danes not koolies .I believe my dogs are descendants from b/collies if anyones got research on coloring /blue eye/ whiteness please let me know via email or pm if you want I have SO MUCH to learn Im now in the position of being registar for working koolies so if I can pass this info along it would be a step in the right direction
13. Black gsd sorry I took my time replying but as explained I was taking a break .I would love to know more about these dogs history temperment ect feel free to pm me or tell me about your dogs here

I cant remember ever having cried so much in all my life and gee its hard to type when your crying . Ickle (hope I spelt that right) that was a lovely poem thank you very much . 15. Just had the worst christmas ever found out my baby who is 14 months old has small lumpy kidneys they are not working anymore .The vet pumped him up on fluids and antibiotic so we could bring him home for a special weekend and tommorow he goes back to the vets to be put down then they are going to do a biopsy to find out if it is hereditory or congenital they wanted to do it before I put him down but I wont let him suffer anymore . Feeling very upset and probably wont be back for a couple of weeks its a bit painful to read about dogs at the moment

Clipping Nails

Yellowlabs why not get the vet to give you a demonstration for the first time then you can feel confident about it .I know it cost money but as you said one bad experience could turn it into a major chore :o

Beagles?

Just a comment to back up the barking and howling comment we lived in town for a while and we got new neighbours who had a beagle .Before they moved in they fortified the backyard he was an escape artist , then they move in Oh my goodness !! Every time they left the house it howled non stop I wasnt too fussed at first got to give them time to settle in but after months of it I was going round the twist luckily we knew we were moving soon
18. I think herding dogs such as b/collies and kelpies have kept a lot of natural traits .Although it gets up my nose that people breed for showing with no thought on instinct thats one quick way to ruin a breed (I know we've had this disagreement before Bensam) Artful dodger why cant these types of game dogs be brought from a fellow hunter ,why does it have to be a dog fighter (if that is where you mean you get your dogs from) I dont pretend to understand dog fighting infact I think it is cruel but that is just my opinion and I can see your point of view about breeding to keep certain traits alive and well
19. That is unbelieveable you can buy dogs on the net I had no idea  What is wrong with people
20. I havent hit grandma age yet :o but it rings a bell with me my friends come over and say we've been trying to ring you!! They ask why we dont get a second telephone line but then I'd be interruped while I'm surfing How annoying would that be?
21. Great idea Bensam never even thought of that I have recycle bins cut up to about a third of their height .Its big enough for them to swim in as well Koolies love water!! We'd better make sure the water bowls ar ful tommorow 40 degrees and even hotter up your way Bensam
