  1. Hi guys my dog answers back we do sheep work and if I send him in the direction he doesnt want to go he barks at me .Im not sure exactly what he calling me but Im sure its a swear word!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. We use vitamin c for most of our animal its also good for snake bites if you inject directly into animal. I also had a goat with a retained placenta who got sick and was treated with vitamin c and made a complete recovery .They also recommend it for horse that are on bute because bute thins the blood or something(sorry thats not very specific but Im not expert I just follow the teachings of a lady who has studied these things in horses and goats and they are all natural remidies)
  3. Why doesnt nice guest get a name so they dont have to be lumped in with the rude guest
  4. I totally agree with you bensam I have been attack by these guests for just having an opinion !!!!!!!!!
  5. Dear guest, For your information I have yet to get a dog I could not train for herding .The reason I get these dogs is to help owners get started in herding I dont appreciate your assumption I could not train these dogs as I can addapt to the appropriate personality not a problem what I was actually saying was that I have my own favourite personalities and I find them more enjoyable to train this does not mean I dont train others anyway. I have breed my own litters and would not be so pompas to assume that only I am superior and I have to choose someone lifelong friend. I love the way all the negative people in this forum are guests.
  6. Firstly I am not against linebreeding I have in fact done it myself .I felt the advise flying around was yeah go for it .I know that alot of breeders would not be addmitting the faults of their dogs outright and before you start yelling and screaming at me lets face it their are some people out there that will stretch the truth a little . When someone asks the question what is linebreeding it suggests to me that it is irrisponsible to say yeah its the only way to go. When really both sides of the coin should be looked at if it is possible to outcross to a quality stud (with research) then why would you not take this option as you are improving the overall of the breed by creating more quality lines for future to breed from .Aroura I think you made a good choice to befreind a person with experience and quality dogs to outcross to I also befriend an old guy who has be breeding my breed of dogs since 1963 and he has taught me heaps about breeding.
  7. I cant believe what I just read GSD Mum says line breeding is the best way to go.Every breed carries genetic defects alot of the times these arent visible and are not about conformation .My breed carries a color defect which causes blindness and deafness and the puppies have to be destroyed by line breeding I am increasing the chances of doubling this gene .I think as a breeder there are plenty of good dogs out there and with research you could find a QUALITY likeminded breeder and cross with their dogs[/quote] In other breeds it might be hip dysplasia or other such things
  8. hi guys, Just thought id let you know i have 8 gorgeous dogs .They range in ages from 4months to 12 years old .They are all absolutely wonderful.I live on a farm and train them to do sheep herding and we compete in trials .My dogs are all but one german koolies youve probably never heard of them they are short haired merle colored dogs supposedly the aussie sheperd is a desendant of them .The other dog I have is a lab/gold ret. shes the old matron of the bunch .The other day at the spritely age of 12 she decided to start working sheep it was so funny i nearly wet myself she was bouncing around them like a pup i told my hubby we should take her in a trial he said there was no way he was working sheep with a labx in public he no fun eh????
  9. Its amazing how fast the critics come out take no heed of the shannon I dont hear them coming up with any suggestions. Aurora I have a freind who has two dogs with very dominant personalities and when first introduced he had the same problem (except these two were going to fight to the death) I suggested putting them together in a backyard together with no humans in sight (quite often it the leader/human they are fighting over) make sure you can see them out a window though for safetys sake and perhaps they can sought it out with out the added pressure of fighting over you .It worked for my friend and the only problem he now has is when hes in the backyard they still get jealous of one another .Im no expert but it might work
  10. :o An old quote for you"If you cross related dogs and it works okay it is called line breeding on the other hand if it doesnt work they call it inbreed" They quite often do it too hopefully double up on the best genes but often it can bring out the bad genes that were laying dormant it also seems to reduce the size of the dog
  11. hi I select a lot of puppies as I train them to do herding .I think the main think to look at is your own personality .If your a strong confident person your best with a more outgoing puppy as it will not be intimidated by you .If your a quieter person you many be better off with a more timid pup or you maybe someone in between. I certainly wouldnt recommend the breeder to pick a pup for you as I feel this is one of the most important moments of bonding for you in a pup.Sometimes people give me their pups to train and there personality clashes with mine and it becomes a struggle to train the dog .Anyway good luck in your search
