Guest Anonymous Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 okay, i am just curious here. when do dogs that point generally start pointing? my crazy dog, dresden, (who is doing well by the way) just started pointing at about 18 months! she all of a sudden is doing it pretty often, and i never saw it before this....has anyone ever seen an australian cattle dog or doberman point???? just curious as i said and unfortunately i can't be back here for a couple days so please don't be offended if i don't respond right away :) thanks for your help, i have been trying to catch up on all the posts and am hopelessly behind......:) Quote
courtnek Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 mine started pointing (on her own) at about 9 weeks, but she's part pointer....I have never heard of a Dobie being a natural pointer, but do cattle dogs normally point? Maybe Dres has some pointer in there... Quote
Nancy B Posted October 15, 2003 Posted October 15, 2003 Weims, among other breeds, were used in the developement of the Doberman as a breed. Whitney has always had a natural point, Mason doesn't. Mason's sister, Kiss, was taken to a hunt club "fun day" by her owner (who also has a Weim) and Kiss pointed, flushed and retrieved the second most number of quail. Also outswam a lot of the Weims. Guess Dresden is just "showing a lot of Dobe"! :D Quote
bk_blue Posted October 16, 2003 Posted October 16, 2003 Hi Marble :) I have on occasion seen BK point but it is possible he has some Pointer in him amongst the 56 other breeds. :D Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted October 16, 2003 Posted October 16, 2003 thanks you all :) she's one crazy dog......i originally thought she was a pointer mix, until i brought her home and she was the psycho puppy from you know where, and then everyone looked more closely at her spots and declared them to be cattle dog :), which was really obvious once someone pointed it out to me.... she has recently also started to drop down into a stalking (herding?) position whenever she sees squirrels while we are walking :) she drops her head low and almost crawls, it's hilarious. she's funny to watch because she shows so many distinctive traits from each breed, it's very interesting. nancy, it's funny that the dogs you thought of were all females :) and that's cool to know about weimeraners being used in the development of dobies....who know's maybe she is pointer too? she is still getting taller and people are always asking me if she is a greyhounds because she's so slender :) and it's not like she doesn't eat......thanks for all the feedback :) Quote
