Crested
I was just (again) surfing on Chinese Crested pages and then I bumped into this page http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/2169/closedears.html. I started reading it and started to wonder where they come from. I tried to make some research, but haven't been able to come anywhere. Do you have any idea of where this comes from? Ben doesn't have this problem (or the tiny puppy of mine), but I'm still very interested about this. I haven't heard of any CC's with closed ear canals here in Finland and I hope they don't even show up. It would be good to know where they come from thou. Any ideas? Crested
Isn't here anyone that knows about this?
yellowlabsrule
Never heard about this before :o are they born with a closed ear or do they get it?
Crested
They are born with it, but it gets noticable in about 4-5 weeks of age. Some that are born with it don't even have an ear canal and moast of them are born deaf in that ear. Because I'm very interested in breeding and genetics, that's why I would want to know more about this. I'm a very qurious person when it comes to something that I feel passionately about (like Chinese Cresteds). Please, if anyone has a clue about this, tell me! (On the same page there is a story about a dog that didn't have any tear glands (http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/2169/taffy.html). Talk about a breeder that's seen everything!) /Crest
yellowlabsrule
Do they have more health problems than other breeds? :-?
Crested
No, actually they SHOULD be very healthy. This breeder (who's page I first found out about this) has just had bad luck I guess. But I don't think it's only Crests that can have this problem, it must be other breeds too, but if there's no-one who knows about it then it must be that when the breeder finds out about this, he/she just "helps" the puppy to go to doggy heaven.
