Rottiegirl
I am going to visit some relitives in VT this weekend, my Rottie, Annie, is on the heart guard heartworm preventitive. 2 dogs at my relitives have heartworms. What are the chances of my dog getting heartworms if she comes with me? Hiow are they contracted? Even with the heartguard can she still get them? Is it safer just to leave her home? Guest Anonymous
Heart worm is spread through an intermediate host which is the Mosquito....the mosquito has to bite your dog in order for your dog to be infected.
Prairie_Gurl
I think since she's on pills, you'll be ok. But, you might wanna check with your vet just to make sure.
Guest Anonymous
Both their dogs have heartworm?? its not exactally heartworm season.... And are they doing anything to remove the hearworms? If untreated heartworm is fatal. and heartworm as far as I know it can only be contracted by mosquito's so as long as your dog is on prevenitive she should be fine.
