I started pet sitting last night for our neighbors who are on vacation for the holidays. They have a cat named Rockey and a Rottie named Kaiser.

Kaiser is 6 and is one of the biggest Rotties I have ever seen, and beautiful. I'll send pix after Christmas (when I get my digital camera).

Anyway, I went over yesterday after work. Opened the door and he was just laying there. No bark, nothing, just SOO happy to see me. I let him hang out in their fenced in portion of their yard for the evening, fed him, and looked around for Rockey cuz I couldn't find him anywhere (he's an outside cat but sleeps with Kaiser in the laundry room at night...the dad is allergic to cats). A little later, I went back over to "cuddle" with Kaiser and well, Rockey got locked in the cellar!!!! Let Rockey out, went in with Kaiser, snuggled on the floor. Got up to go home and forgot that dogs DO bring in dirt. Their cream carpet is full of MUD. I have hardwood floors and "forgot". Ooops.

Around 9pm, I decided to go see him for the last time. I let him out and we hung around the front of the house (not fenced in)...he was so good. We sat on the front steps waiting for my hubby to get home. There was a 12" pile of drool on the steps after that  . I just don't know how you guys deal with that!

Finally, hubby comes home. Kaiser is sitting on my feet (I think they are broke or at least bruised today) and hubby comes up in his puppy voice and talks to him and goes to pet him. Kaiser growls at him! I've NEVER heard that out of him. Kaiser was protecting me....and loving me. Once I let him know that hubby was OK, things were great, especially after hubby fed him treats!

So, I may have some Kaiser stories for you here in the next 10 days. He's such a brute. His nick name is Princess....

OMG. They live two houses up from us....I'm outside with Kaiser and you can hear Kenzo whining and jumping against the wooden fence. :o He knew it was me feeding Kaiser and he could hear my voice talking to ANOTHER DOG! He was NOT happy with me at that point. He was crying for Mama.

He was very happy to see me come home. I got quite the sniff-over, but a lot lovin' after that!

They can be jealous. Did you feed your own dogs first?

Oh, they get food all the time...their bowls are NEVER empty!

They do get treats when I get home, though.

What is it with women and big dogs?

When we were having our media room built this past summer, we had a number of men coming and going.

Travis would usually bark at them when they first came in, then settle down and just watch. However, if any of the men started approaching my wife, Travis would immediately start growling and making "ugly faces". It was funny to see these big burly workmen stop dead in their tracks and go all white. Nothing like 120 lbs of angry GSD to make you pause and carefully consider your next move.

He does the same thing with my sister-in-laws dog, Sissy. My sis-in-law rescued an elderly bitch, and for some reason Sissy does not like Sam at all. Everything was fine until she snapped at Sam and nipped his face right in front of Travis. I think at that point Travis decided: "Ok lady, you're a threat."

From that point on, whenever Sissy dog gets close to my wife, Travis puts himself in between and starts growling etc. The last time we were together she tried to squeeze past my wife and the kitchen table and I think Travis thought it was an attack. He immediately grabbed her by the scruff of the neck and we had a little altercation. Thankfully, no one was hurt but Sissy kept her distance after that. The funny thing is that if my wife is not nearby, they're fine. Travis and Sissy will be standing side by side ignoring each other.

The other funny thing he does is "escort" strangers, be they dog or human. My in-laws have an old border collie mix that they bring with them when they come over. She a pleasant old gal. Anyhow, when she's at our place Travis escorts her around the house. He just follows her everywhere and watches her. He doesn't interact with her in any way, just watches her. It funny to see.

When I feed Winnie I make her sit/stay then dump food in and make her stay. When I am feeling cruel I make her stay really long and by that time there is a pond of drool

Oh I LOVE big dogs!! It's weird to think that my very first dog (not fam dog) was a chihuahua! hee hee, my friend who owns a kennel (well, friend of the fam, obviously a person around 15 wouldn't own a kennel! LOL) she has a Rottie, biggest sweet heart ever! I just love him to peices! Of course when I come home smelling like him, Hazel will sit in a different room until she finally can't stand not being beside me anymore! LOL

Today's update.

I'm in trouble.

Kaiser was taught NOT to lick, as a pup.

Last night, he was licking my face non stop.

I don't mind...but he'll be needing some retraining once the family returns.

I'm so bad.

Ha ha. Gigi, you sound like you're having lots of fun :D really is too bad that Mr Jealous won't let you have another dog... or maybe a good thing, otherwise your house might be full of them!

Eric- Rinny (GSD X) used to do the same thing whenever "his" people- my stepmum and stepsister- hugged anyone ie. my family in his presence. He got upset if anyone looked as though they were overpowering them, and he would bark and carry on... though he got used to it in a few weeks.

Oh, I'm having a blast! He's such a good boy. Can't wait till next week when I can post pix of my "godson"!

Well, I'm a little bit jealous because it would seem that as far as Travis is concerned, I'm on my own. Get close to Mommy though, and you're asking for trouble.

Gigi, sounds like when we finally got Sash trained to not get on the couch, cuz we were buying a new one. And I left her with my mom for the weekend. :o I told her, mom, do not let her on your couch. When I went to pick her up... There was my mom sitting on the couch with Sasha in her lap!

Sucker!!!

Ya just can't resist the looks....

Boy, Kaiser is such a good boy.

He must really miss his family because everyday when I go to leave him, he will stand in front of me so I can't leave.

We were playing the other day and he started to growl...kinda freaked me so we stopped playing. He's an awfully large dog to have growl at you, even if he is playing!

I'm sure all our neighbors will be glad when his family is back. Kenzo will scream when I'm outside with Kaiser. 5:30 in the morning is a little early for a screaming dog!

we painted this chicks house once in West Seattle and they had a HUGE rottie. Probably 140# her name was "Pandora Lee" not a very fitting name for a big ugly dog that size but she was nice when her people were there. When they left though, it got sticky that dog would try and kill us whenever we got close. When we needed to use the plug ins inside the house one person would have to taunt the dog through the front door while another guy RAN through the house to the plug through the back door. At the time it was quite frightening but now its one of our favorite stories to tell.

we called her "Cujora"

Well, got the camera but mom got the wrong memory card so no pix.

We are thinking Kaiser is about 150 pounds. Hubby thinks 160 but I think that's pushing it. Mr Exaggeration.

Brother and Sis-in-law came over yesterday so they got to meet him. They were totally shocked by the size of the beast. Sis-in-law was intimidated by him until the end and even then he scared her. Kaiser didn't care. He just wanted to be pet and loved. My brother became his friend fast as well. Just a quick pat on the head and Kaiser is in love....

Love the new signature, Deep.

"MOMMY!!!! MOMMY!!!! I CAN HEAR YOU!!!! WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME??? I LOVE YOU MOMMY, PLEASE COME BACK!!! WHATEVER I DID I'M SORRY!! PLEASE COME BACK MOMMY!!"

Just in case you didn't feel guilty enough about this. :P

BTW, saw a Shiba for the first time at the dog park. Don't take this the wrong way, but I had to laugh. It was so cute. The owners had obviously spent alot of time grooming it so its coat was perfect; very "poofy". It looked like a little teddy bear. Alot smaller than I thought, based on your pictures. Seemed like a really nice dog, very pleasant and happy.

If my dogs looked like that I wouldn't want them to get dirty. :)

Oh yeah. That's Kenzo. 5:30 am he's freaking out and waking up the rest of the world!

Shibas have a tendancy to look HUGE in pictures. You must remember, though, my male Kenzo is HUGE for a shiba. BIG BOY. So, no one should ever base a shiba's size off of him. He's just unreal. Saw his son (my grandson) on Christmas Eve and it just shocks me how small he is...at least that's what it seems like to me.

Yes, they have that "can't get dirty" look to them! And believe it or not, they HATE being dirty. Very cat like in that manner. The less dirt, the better. They are groomers. They will clean themselves for ever...I get SO sick of Kenzo cleaning his butt  ....and Kika has learned to NOT clean her privates on the COUCH. She must do that on her pillow.

Drool.

Drool.

Drool.

How do you all deal with it? I gag...

The other day Kaiser shook his head and ended up with strings of drool on the top of his head.

This morning, I stop to get gas after I put him back in the house and notice my newly dry-cleaned coat all full of drool.

It makes me gag. I can NOT deal with it. How do you all do it????

[quote name='K']TOWELS TOWELS TOWELSStrategically placed in every room and the car and 2 by the food and drink bowls...whole lotta wipin' goin' on!

If you wait 'till it's dry you can peel it off no bother! :o

And you can do this without gagging?

Obviously, my dreams for a Saint or Dane have faded away because of this.
