eric Posted December 18, 2002 Posted December 18, 2002 Hey guys, Has anybody ever seen an indoors automatic waterers for dogs that can be hooked up to the household plumbing? We've got one of those gravity-feed waterers but with my three boys it is constantly running empty. I swear I fill that thing four times a day. There must be a kit out there that taps into the existing plumbing much in the same way that the ice/water dispensing fridges do. Quote
Guest roo Posted December 18, 2002 Posted December 18, 2002 i dont know of one Eric, but you could invent one  Quote
yellowlabsrule Posted December 18, 2002 Posted December 18, 2002 Never heard of it, so I'm not much help. Quote
Bensam Posted December 18, 2002 Posted December 18, 2002 We have a thingy (I'm hopeless at the technical names, need my hands to describe things and that wont work here  just just bear with me) which works on the floating ballcock principle the same as the water tank on the toilet. They can be purchased in lots of sizes, ranging from cattle troughs through to bird avairy use. It attaches to the water pipes and as the animals/dogs/birds whatever, drink it keeps topping up the container. Is this the type of thing you are looking for? Quote
yellowlabsrule Posted December 18, 2002 Posted December 18, 2002 Oh, like an automatic waterer? We have one for the cows. Quote
Bensam Posted December 18, 2002 Posted December 18, 2002 It's a ball on an arm which is attached to the water pipe with a valve. Ball floats on the water, as animals drink, level drops, ball goes down with level, valve opens and tops up container, ball rises on top of water and valve shuts water off when at required level. We can get them with good sized bowls to install outside ideal for dogs. Always fresh cool water Only trouble is, unless your very sneaky, they are supposed to be fitted by a qualified plumber, who will charge more than you paid for the whole setup :o I guess that's the same as you have for the cows? We used to have a small version in the horse stables, I have seen them used in dog runs, smaller again and the smallest ones are advertised for use in bird avairys. Quote
ShadyLady Posted December 19, 2002 Posted December 19, 2002 Great idea Bensam never even thought of that I have recycle bins cut up to about a third of their height .Its big enough for them to swim in as well Koolies love water!! We'd better make sure the water bowls ar ful tommorow 40 degrees and even hotter up your way Bensam  Quote
